I was thinking that it might be interesting to hone writing skills by discribing something that you saw during the course of the day. for instance yesterday:
I watched large yellow maple leaves chasing a school bus down the street gutter as it passed.

Very poetic! I write all day long for my job, well, OK, now I edit all day long for my job ... but I rarely get to write something as creative as that. :D
I'm working on the next installment for Veronaville. I guess that's where my creativity goes.

I think the changing colors of the fall are inspiring, too.
As I drank my coffee this morning, I watched the grey clouds move away and let the rising sun turn the yellow poplar tree into gold.

This morning, as I watched the clock tick closer to nine, an oddly shaped cloud floating in the sky caught my eye. I sat up in bed and the image formed by the puffs of fleecy cotton became clearer: a warty witch with heavily bagged eyes and a bulbous nose. :D

I really liked your description of the school bus, Michelle. The bus and the maple leaves together paint a very pretty image of the season.
LOL, 123. Very funny.
And I'm hoping SBW finds the time to write more about Veronaville.

If you don't mind a discription that I read in a book...
the author was discribing how the heroine was reacting to her boyfriends defection to a bra model... instead of a train wreck, it was the emotional equivilant of a broken nail.
quite clever I thought.

just a thought....
...today as I passed beneath the tall trees, I almost saw the faeries sailing leaves down the swirling winds...

I'm thinking that poetry is your calling, Michelle. I always loved that about cats--sitting in the window, blinking slowly at the passersby, smiling with contentment. And disdain. :)

Thanks Lynet, for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to spell 'disdain'
and I've never really thought of myself as a poet. but thankyou.
isn't just amazing that with all the things that have been said, that there are still original ideas out there?

I agree.
I have Dictionary.com bookmarked. I love it. Although I have a dictionary and thesaurus sitting right here on my desk, quite tattered, dictionary.com is almost (not quite) as good when I'm feeling lazy, expecially to verify the spelling of a word, like 'disdain.'

I'm horrible at poetry. It ends up sounding too...flowery. Like I'm trying too hard to sound poetic, so it just sounds..horrible. I'm much better at fiction. :D

Me, I'm sitting here totally humbled after watching a movie about Leonard Cohen called: I'm Your Man. Talk about knowing how to turn a phrase. sigh.
Highly recommend it to everyone here.

I saw old men standing in the fog, silent and unmoving,
with arms outstretched to catch the grey mist and hold it still.

I wish you could have seen the Olympic Mts this morning. The sunlit, snow clad peaks were floating on the blanket of fog covering the Puget Sound. I suspect that may have been how the story of the Land of Green Ginger originated.

What's the Land of Green Ginger?

a fairytale about a magical island that floated thru the air coming to rest only occasionally. and about a quest the hero has to accomplish... in order to marry the sultans daughter if I'm remembering rightly. and that is alway suspect.

Here's something you don't want to see...
Santa wearing sunglasses, driving a sports car with a whole bunch of mardi gras necklaces hanging from the rearview mirror.
