I don't know whether anyone else is having this problem but my father was playing the sims 2 pets and started to get random crashes and abnormal textures on the sims themselves he could run the game ok on low settings but the textures would still play around after a little time I found the problem to be either bumpmapping or shaders or possibly both (The game looks no different with them disabled anyway) to disable automatically, just locate the sims pets Config folders i.e c:\program files\ea games\The Sims 2 Pets\ts data\Config & CSConfig in both folders there is a file called graphics rules.sgr edit the file in both folders with notepad (DO NOT EDIT ONE AND COPY AND PASTE INTO THE OTHER FOLDER!) scroll down to nvidia geforce 6200 turbo cache settings which should have forcelow already there under setb forcelowsettings true put:
boolprop useshaders false
boolprop bumpmapping false
This should fix the problem it did for my dad and he was able to increase graphics quality up to high with hardly any impact on speed.
