View Full Version : Installation Problem

When I try to install the Sims 2 on my laptop, it loads up to about 8%, and then pops up and error message that says something like "Unable to copy this file, would you like to retry or cancel?". I've tried "retry" several times with the same result.

I've tried installing in safe mode and installing in Spanish, just to see if it would work, but nothing.

I am using a pre-used set of CDs, but they seem to be in good condition with just a few very small scratches.

What I'm really wondering is if it's the discs or my laptop. I've never had any installation issues with the laptop before.

I'm hoping to borrow another set of the CDs from a friend, just to see if that will help, but if anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Here are my specs: (if there are any more that would be helpful, let me know)

OS: Windows XP Professional
RAM: 512 MB
Free disk space: 44.9 GB

Thanks much!

Could you post a few more details specs about your laptop? CPU speed? Do you also have any burning programs like Nero or Alcohol?

My CPU speed is 1694 Mhz.

I don't know if I have any of those programs, but I highly doubt it- I mostly use this laptop for schoolwork and a few games--like the Sims 2 if possible! I don't use many other applications and honestly don't use the internet a whole lot.

I guess my best case scenario is that the discs I was using before were corrupt and using a different set will work. Is this realistic or is it more likely a problem with my computer?

Is this one of those Centrino notebooks?

I think so. It's a Dell Inspiron 600m, so I guess so. I don't know a whole lot about computers, as you may have guessed.

Does it have a lil Centrino Sticker on the notebook itself, like near the keyboard? :)

Why, yes, it does! :embarrassed: Ah, the wonders of technology!

I'd like to thank you for your help. I finally did get it to work--I broke down and bought a new copy. I suppose this just shows that you get what you pay for; used copies aren't worth the trouble!
