The fact that when you look through the window you always see the same stars? Why is that? The fact that the spaceship is often bumped up and down and they have never heard of seat belts. The fact that they rarely have children on the spaceship.
The fact that every alien looks like a human with plastic on his/her head.
How on earth can anyone watch such things? (No - I didn't - did I? Yes, I must admit that I have watched a number of episodes)
Why is that when someone is travelling much faster than light other people can still see them?

Spaceships --> Bumped during battle
Children --> Space too dangerous
Alien --> Who knows?!?!? Some look quite real :) Particular the Borg.
Faster than the speed of light? where else can you view them??!?!? Pretend!?

Voyager is supposed to have lost its way and be taking years and years and (so on) to get home. The only way any human is reasonably going to get home is for the women to have children and then, perhaps, the children or their children might get home. Or, perhaps, in the case of this particular spacecraft it doesn't matter. I don't believe that. All (well, nearly all) women want children. If they didn't the world would have depopulated years ago. Are the women on Star Trek different? I very very much doubt it.

Voyager originally was on assignment to locate a lost crewmen (Tuvok) who was on a spy mission against the Marquee.

Then things got messed up when they got pulled across the galaxy by the Caretaker.

There are adult women and men in the show...and there were a few children.

One child was born...and it was Naomi Wildman.

*cough* I looove star Trek......read the books, even if they aren't "official" watch what shows I can (voyager is on at midnight here, and I don't have cable to watch TNG, and DS9 isn't on anymore here :( ), but I still watch Enterprise.....when I get home in time......and there ARE kids on the Enterprise-D, and in case you haven't noticed, Voyager DID get home........*takes breath* ....and Supposedly, the sensors can recieve info faster than light, from far distances, so that's why they can detect faster than light ships, and don't get me started on the physics and possibilities of warp drive....

Oh yeah, it's Maqui, not Marquee...man, isn't there an evil smiley? *looks* well, I guess :bandit: works.

Oh yeah, about the aliens, in a particualr TNG episode, it was idscovered that the galaxy was seeded with DNA to start life, so that's why they are all humanoid, more or less.....(really budget, but shhhh...)

heehee reading this has been fun. :D I like Star Trek in the various incarnations but I haven't kept up with anything since our cable company stopped carrying the station that broadcast Voyager... it was sometime before the Borg lady Seven of Nine was introduced, so I missed EVERYTHING past that point! :p

The fact that when you look through the window you always see the same stars? Why is that? The fact that the spaceship is often bumped up and down and they have never heard of seat belts. The fact that they rarely have children on the spaceship.

No seat belts because those Starships were NEVER meant to land, though I used to think it would be practical to add them to the bridge to strap in for battle. Think of it like a bus though, they don't have seatbelts around here!

The stars did change in the shows I watched.... but they wouldn't change much if they stayed in the same area of space.

They did have a few kids on some of the shows... but think of it being like the same reasons you don't raise kids on an Aircraft Carrier....

Yes there were mostly TONS of humanoid life forms... but they did have a few that were energy, or large blobby creatures. Think budget is about right though... also think where special effects and make-up were at the time of each respective show.

Faster than light visuals... um.. not sure on my physics but I'd go with relativity? ;)

People who generally like the shows aren't really watching for realism so much as for the fun of the adventure, and exploring ideas/dreams/ideals of humankind.

Then there are those of us watching those pointy ears... ;)

Isis Black
05-26-2003, 06:36 AM
oh dear god no i dont wear the clothes!!! or go to the cinema with all hte tech manual with me!! wich i did see one bloke once (very sad :p )
Ihave been afan of star trek for a long time now really loved DS9 found voyager a little tiring at times the only good thing was chekotay :p
not found enterprise too bad but not sure about the introduction of the borg think thats gone into overkill now!!! but to be honest i think star trek has burst its bubble now think alot of people are getting tired of it!! so i cant actually see it going on for to many more years!!
I dont just like star trek though I do love Babylon 5 which is a very cool series!!!

ManagerJosh

I didn't find Babylon 5 that intriguing. I found Voyager always exciting.

Isis Black
05-26-2003, 08:37 AM
how could you not find B5 intriging!!! ok maybe the first seires was a bit flat but from series 2 onwards it got really exciting!! and having Walter Koenig in it was brill too he made a very convincing baddie!!!!!!!!!!!

ManagerJosh
05-26-2003, 10:17 AM
I think it was season one that killed my view of Babylon 5

PhilipTarbuck

Babylon 5 is the best of the science fiction shows. They don't try to keep changing the plasma drive (or whatever rubbish it is they are talking this week). I am sorry I disagree, Josh. I quite like Babylon 5 and watch it every now and then. But, then, I watch Stargate now and then and, occasionally, Star Trek and Enterprise.
I didn't realise Voyager had got home - had it really? Perhaps you are ahead of us here. After all they are all U.S.A. shows originally, aren't they?

I love the idea of the Maquis, the idea that they are fighting for a lost cause

ManagerJosh
05-27-2003, 07:27 AM
The Maquis movement is gone though...they were all captured by Star Fleet Intelligence.

Isis Black

Dont think it was a good idea for the marquis to last very long not when the vorter and jemhadar and shapeshifters turned up (think they were the obsidion order or something!!) and hte killed off sisko no fair if thats not a way to tell us there will never be a film with DS9 in what is??!! think they ended voyager way too quick!! for gods sake they got home in one episode think it should have been at least over 4 to 5 episodes.
I think Babylon 5 from season 2 or 3 onwards really got down to some serious stuff with the shadows arriving!! ooooo very scary and the ranges turning up ..... why in the hell didi they kill of Marcus Cole he was cool, they killed him off to save Ivonova then she buggered off well wasnt that a wast of time never mind all done now.
Must say one of THE best series ever to be made was Dr Who!! we have just had a whole weekend of Dalek episodes here on uk gold it was soo cool seing the programmes i used to watch religiously as a kid!!! that is one series i wish tehy would make again but the BBC really aren`t into sci-fi they never have bben surprised Dr Who lasted as long as it did and i aslo think Paul McGann should come back becasue he was very good!!

hataz_gon_hate
05-28-2003, 01:54 AM
so i guess there are more sci-fiers here than i thought...

ManagerJosh
05-28-2003, 02:28 AM
In actuality, it took voyager to get home in like all the episodes...after all that was the common theme.

However, them arriving home, and fighing the borg took 2.

The maquis were not captured...they were wiped out by the Cardassians and the Jem'Hadar

ManagerJosh
05-28-2003, 10:07 PM
I thought many were captured by Star Fleet.

In what series were all the Maquis wiped out, anyway? i must have missed that. (not surprising....they don't show star trek here anymore :( ....might have said that on the other page....I'm too lazy to wait for my 28k modem to load the page so I can see)

ManagerJosh
06-05-2003, 07:25 PM
It was in one of the episodes in Voyager where they recieve messages from home saying the Maquis was gone...I think it was the episode where they meet those hunters

lewdini
06-05-2003, 11:38 PM
In Deep Space Nine they were wiped out. Voyager was occuring around the same period as DS9

Colonel Froggie
06-06-2003, 11:50 AM
Hmmm. I mostly read the books now. Even though they don't really count as 'canon', they are still (some of them anyway) pretty good.

Colonel Froggie
06-06-2003, 11:52 AM
And also, even though the Maquis are fighting for a lost cause, they're still the bad guys :bandit:
