Will this PC be ok for running the Sims 2 and a few expansion packs? It meets the minimum repuirements but how good will it be? Also, should I keep Vista or put XP on it instead? I've heard Vista makes games slower. Anyway here is what the PC has:
Brand ACER
Processor AMD Athlon 64 x2
Processor model number 3800+
Processor speed 2.0 GHz
Processor bus 2000 MHz
Processor cache 1 MB
Memory (RAM) 1024 MB
Storage (hard drive) 160 GB
Shared graphics Nvidia GF6100 256MB
I'm going to put a Nvidia 7600 GT 256mb Graphics card in so ignore the shared graphics bit.
So is it a good PC? Will the graphics be good?
Thanks

Might as well get Vista since that's going to be the new standard OS. Forget going with Windows XP. Save your money and dump it into bumping your RAM to 2GB :)

Hey, Pete. Make sure you have enough watts from the case power supply for that 7600.
I agree with Josh that Vista is gonna be the preferred route for new builds. It should make the most of that 64bit cpu, which XP won't without some bolt-on hot fixes.
I garee with Josh that you need at least 2GB ram for best performance. I would expect the game will run pretty darn well.

definetly xp if you're only going 1 gig ram, but if you bump it to 2, vista will be good. i have a laptop with 1 gig ram, intel centrino core 2 duo processor, with a standard graphics card, and it runs the sims 2 errorlessly. the load times are as low as they get really, i was really stunned at how well it actualy ran. goodluck with the new system, happy simming!

Good lord, Swimmerboy! This was from April. I would hope that Pete has long since bought and upgraded his computer. Re-waking a sleeping thread is regarded as bad because it pushes current topics off the top. Please don't do it again!
