I'll post a clue for where I am. It's famous places and time periods, so don't worry about something weird like "Lithuania, 400 BC". When someone (or more than one someone) guesses right, I'll reveal the answer and move on. I'm starting with an easy one. If you don't know the date, just be as specific as possible. ("Over in Africa when that guy landed his boat" isn't the kind of answer that counts.)

"Off with her head!" is the cry,
But it doesn't come from the Queen this time.
The one to lose her head, in fact, is she.
Please pass the wine, mon cherie.

ManagerJosh

Bloody Mary?

Helén
02-22-2003, 05:38 AM
England, whe Queen Mary lost her head?

FaeLuna
02-22-2003, 03:16 PM
Is it Bastille Day? I forget what year that was though... :p

Phoenix Ravenflame
02-22-2003, 05:14 PM
Bastille Day is close... you're in the right country there. And, Nina, you're close because the Queen is the one being beheaded. So what Queen lost her head in the country where Bastille Day is celebrated?

Phoenix

Helén
02-22-2003, 10:32 PM
During the french revolution, the french Queen Marie Antoinette as well as her husband King Ludvig XVI was beheaded.
(Note: European spelling of names)

Phoenix Ravenflame
02-22-2003, 10:45 PM
YAY, Nina! Okay, time for this Phoenix to fly. Catch me if you can!

The Germans call it the Twilight of the Gods, but all Odin knows is that Loki's gotten them into trouble again. Loki's monster, Fenris the wolf, is loose and this mighty battle could mean the end!

FaeLuna
02-22-2003, 10:57 PM
Ragnarok! The Nordic End of the World! :D (I've been reading fantasy novels based on mythology again.....)

Helén
02-22-2003, 11:29 PM
Yes. I agree with Fae. Ragnarök. (Swedish spelling)

For the curious about nordic mythology:
Nordic is a name for the 5 "nordic" countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. The Nordic mythology was not so much german as swedish, icelandic and norwegian, where the most viking ships sailed from. Cities like Birka can be reached from central Stockholm, by touristboats. Only about ½ mile from me I have a vikingstone with runes. This peninsula where I live is overloaded with old viking stones and also memories from as far back as the Iron age. Want to see runestones? Come here. :classic:
The swedish spelling of the characters here are: Oden, Tor, Frej, Freja, Loke, Fenrisulven. Yggdrasil is the name of the worldtree. And up to today Icelandic are still very close to the language spoken at the viking time. Icelandis is really a language within history. :classic:

Phoenix Ravenflame
02-23-2003, 01:23 AM
FaeLuna and Nina found me! Thanks for the extra information, Nina. Norse mythology is something I've discovered I have an interest in over the past couple of years, but I haven't had much chance to study it yet.

Where am I? I'm walking around inside a woman's little finger! Her skin has turned green with age (not envy), but was once a beautiful copper tan. She was born in France, but welcomes millions to the Land of Freedom.

lewdini
02-23-2003, 02:01 AM
I like norse mythology too
I got books on it when i was a kid

FaeLuna
02-23-2003, 10:53 AM
Whoa this new one sounded scary at first!! I was thinking you were a worm!!! Then I thought OH! You're inside the Statue of Libery! She was made in France! :D

I like learning about Nordic stuff, I have a lot of ancestry from all those countries in that area! :D One time when I was 6 we lived next door to a lady from Sweden, she was one of the coolest people I'd met, and her cousin came to visit, and he was in a boat and her dog was trying to jump in the boat with him, and my baby brother who was about 3 or 4 years old at the time said "Our Swedish Ancestor is trying to keep the doggie out of the boat!" heeheee! :p

Phoenix Ravenflame
02-23-2003, 05:39 PM
Yep, I was inside the Staue of Liberty! FaeLuna's dad would love it... she's a REALLY tall woman! Gotta fly! Time for you to Phind Phoenix...

In this part of India, this little old woman eases the pains of the dying and serves food to the hungry. She and her Sisters live a life of service. Her face is recognized all over the world and everyone calls her Mother. Where am I and who am I with?

ManagerJosh
02-24-2003, 07:08 PM
Mother Teresa

FaeLuna
02-25-2003, 01:46 PM
I have NO idea what part of India you're in, but I think Josh is right about WHO you're with! :D

Helén
02-25-2003, 11:57 PM
Me too. I agree with Josh. :classic:

Phoenix Ravenflame
02-27-2003, 08:41 PM
Well, I might have been pushing it with the "where"... a lot of people may not know she lived in Calcutta. But, yes, I'm with Mother Theresa!

Kangaroo and wallabee...
These are next door neighbors to me.
I'm not in Austrailia,
That's not where I sleep,
But a land nearby where there's lots of sheep.

Helén
02-28-2003, 08:11 AM
I guess New Zealand

ManagerJosh
02-28-2003, 04:41 PM
Tazmania is my guess

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-01-2003, 03:12 AM
I was thinking New Zealand when I wrote it, but now I see that Tazmania was also a possibility, so I'm giving it to both of you!

Riddle me this, riddle me that...
I'm in a land where they once worshipped cats.
All of the gods have the heads of beasts and I'm visiting with a giant who's lost her nose and wants me to answer her riddle.

Egypt

Phoenix Ravenflame

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-03-2003, 05:18 AM
There ya go! Okay, let's see where I fly this time...

Butch and Sundance ended up here, and some say it's where they died in a shootout with the local law enforcement. I like to think they're still out there somewhere, faking their way through Spanish to rob the banks and trying to step carefully when they're around the llamas.

ManagerJosh
03-03-2003, 10:37 AM
Butch and Sundance actually went to Argentina and spent four years ranching peacefully in Patagonia with Ethel (AKA Etta) Place before wending their way to Bolivia in 1906.

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-03-2003, 01:44 PM
Cool! I never heard the part about Argentina... or that Etta's real name was Ethel.

But what's your guess for where I am? Argentina? Bolivia? Somewhere else?

Phoenix

lewdini
03-03-2003, 03:52 PM
Argentina!

ManagerJosh
03-03-2003, 04:55 PM
I'm saying Both :D :D :D...nah I'll say Bolivia :)

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-03-2003, 05:49 PM
And that's it! (Lew, especially since I didn't know they'd been to Argentinia. 8-) ) Wow, ya'll are making this harder forme than I expected to keep coming up with them.

It's really cold! I tried looking for elves and reindeer, but they said there aren't any here... just penguins.

SolidSnake_19
03-03-2003, 05:52 PM
Would you happen to be in the South Pole?

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-03-2003, 06:06 PM
Yep! I must be getting pretty easy to find.

In this country they speak the same language I do, with a few differences. The slang, the spellings... but they make a good cup of tea!

ManagerJosh
03-03-2003, 06:47 PM
United Kingdom....or to be more specific England

SolidSnake_19
03-03-2003, 06:47 PM

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-05-2003, 02:07 PM
Yep, that's where I am! Okay, I'll have to come back and post again later because my mind has kind of gone blank for clues and places to hide.

Phoenix

ManagerJosh
03-05-2003, 02:19 PM
Here...everyone try to find me.....

(specific location)

Somewhere in the world I stand on this object, one of man's greatest creations ever created in the history of time. Classified as one of the 7 wonders of the world, I'm standing on this item that can be seen from outer space.

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-05-2003, 07:06 PM
The Great Wall of China!

(This is so cool... I'm glad someone else decided to go hide.)

ManagerJosh
03-05-2003, 09:38 PM
eek! I've been found! :o

Now let's see.....

Standing in this historical british monument, it has withstood the time of history. These 4 faces of time is where you will find me.

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-06-2003, 12:29 AM
I think I know where you are, but I don't know if it has four faces. I'll wait and see what somebody else says and maybe I can get by on the "me,too" vote. :)

Are you talking about being at London's clock, Big Ben?

ManagerJosh
03-06-2003, 02:42 PM
Actually I was thinking of Westminister Abby because those walls have stood for ages. But I guess Big Ben counts as well....

Let's see....

Art is a universal language, I waltz around this city observing famous paintings. From the Statue of David to little coffeeshops where you can own the table all day, this is the city of romance. I'm Standing here in this famous museum, I stand with my girlfriend Lisa observing fair, but lovely Mona.

ManagerJosh
03-06-2003, 09:58 PM
Nuts...I've been found again!

Let's see...I'm running away....deep into this earth's place. Underwater is where you will find me, at the famous trench of the mighty deep.

Phoenix Ravenflame
03-07-2003, 06:18 PM
Okay... this is harder than I thought. I was also thinking Big Ben, but I didn't know if it has four faces... then I tried to mentally put the Mona Lisa in a museum in Italy! (Hey, nobody said this Phoenix looks at a map when she flies!) Now I think I know where you are, but I don't know how to spell it, so I'm going to write it the way it sounds.

The Mary Anna's Trench

ManagerJosh
03-07-2003, 10:19 PM

There was an expedition led by Sir Ernest Shackleton and they sailed on the ship the Endurance which became stranded in the polar ice on Jan 18, 1915 and they left the ship to travel on foot and by life boats on Nov. 21, 1915. Let us try again. You are on the Europa Bridge-near Innsbruck & Tyrol in Austria. It spans the Sill Valley. Built in 1959-1963

height: 190m
length: 820m

This is my last guess: You are on the bridge over the Danube in Cernavoda, Romania. The inauguration of the bridge was Sept.14/26, 1895 in which His Magesty King Carol I participated.

Nope...sorry cher.

I am bungee jumping on a red narrow bridge in the Swiss Alps in Europe, at 620ft

Well back off I go into the world where no one can see.....had a wonderful lunch at this resturant where "freedom" fries are the thing. Wonder how much "freedom" is in this monument that was built to attract people for a fair.
