So, here's the question of the night...

If you could build a city, either based on a real city in the world or based on your own personal preferences... what would it be?

If I could build any one city... this is a toughie. I think I'd have to combine London, New York, and San Francisco. There's just something I love about the charm of London, the hustle-and-bustle of New York, and the cleanliness, general youth, and intrigue of San Francisco so... I guess my dream city is a cross between them. :) Oh--and I'd have my subjects drive on the left :p

What's your dream city? :D

Sim City 4 spoiled me in this regard. I no longer have just one "Dream City"

Each region was a district in my huge "Dream City"

-I had the "down town district" which was mainly commercial, the huge skyscrappers and the like.
-Next to it was my entertainment district. Here I had my sports area, touristy stuff like a CN Tower. Club area, cruise ship port, huge park, intersting looking skyscrappers, that academy awards theater....stuff like that.
-across the river from that was my blue collar district. Lots of industry.
-I had a government district. Lots of bureaucracy, all the branches of government....even had buildings for all the major religions.
-Next to that was my college town...dorms, research buildings, stadiums, statues.
-Themepark area/educational stuff. Included roller coasters, navy pier, museums, zoos and aquariums
-Casino district. Put Las Vegas to shame, was so large I needed to expand it to another district.
-The downs- my casino district 2. Had a huge horse track, more casinos, kind of the poor mans vegas....or old las vegas.
-The burbs....nothing special really about the burbs, just what you would normally find in the suburbs.

At this point I had so much stuff added and the city was getting so large my computer was no longer able to run it at a speed that allowed me to add to it. I had plans for other districts and here they are:
- European district. This was the area I planned to have european architecture and monuments.
-In the middle of my region was a lake (ocean?), in the middle was an island, here I planned to make my tropical retreat.
-Farm Town
-On the far side of my region were kind of the badlands, mountains, desert, and wilderness.
- in the desert I planned to have two areas 1) old west town 2) a huge military base to protect the rest of my region
-In the mountains I planned to have a mountain village with skiing and the like.
-Wilderness....lots of trees, lots of animals, campgrounds, cabins, nature stuff like gysers.

That is all I can think of right now.

But anyway, if all this was doable in Cities Unlimited, then throw in 3d, a modding community that is equal or greater than SC4, and the new stuff monte christo throws in (as well as a new computer)....that would be my "dream city" :cloudnine:

EDIT: and something I didn't plan for that one, but recently thought of is a maximum security prison area. It would be on an island. Completely self sufficient (power, food, water). All around the edge of the island would be rocky mountains. The only way to and out of the island would be one subway. It would be one line from the island to the mainland and would not connect to any other lines.

Personally, generally infrastructure is a key importance to any City Simulator.
