Hi everyone,

This is a new thread because the old one was 95 pages and getting a bit topheavy. This is the thread to talk about what's happening in your RL, don't be shy--we aren't. :D

So, what's new?

My husband gets an unexpected vacation next week--unexpected but deserved!--he's the bread baker for a local cafe and most of the time it's like they can't live without him!

So, we're very happy he gets four whole days off. We're just trying to figure out how to spend our windfall: fixing up the house or going somewhere? Hmmm ... decisions, decisions.

In the meantime, I can't wait to find out what happened on Mrs. Crumplebottom's outing! Some interesting things have transpired in Veronaville as well . . .

(old thread found here: http://forums.worldsims.org/showthread.php?t=8443 )

Thanks for the new thread. :D

SURE - TEASE us with vague hints about what might be happening in Veronaville, and then don't post anything! I see how it is!!! (And same to you, Lynet, regarding the Crumplebottom Affair!)

(And same to you, Lynet, regarding the Crumplebottom Affair!) :confused:Sorry. :o I haven't had much free time lately. Last weekend was the first for a while and I played sims for two solid days in order to get the pictures I wanted, and to think over my plans for the story.

Tonight my husband and I are going out to dinner because it's our anniversary. :)

Believe me, I'm VERY anxious to get Mrs. Crumplebottom all settled down and the story finished before I go to California on August 25th.

Meanwhile, you and SBW, are also distracting me because both of you have really exciting stories to read. :D I was going to write a little this morning, then saw that there were updates in the library and read those instead. Now I've got to get to work.

Congrats! Hope it's super romantic!

What's new with me? I'm sick! Sick as a dog...well at least I was on Saturday for sure, today is the first day I've really felt like being on the computer. Saturday I had a fever of 102; Sunday 100-101; Monday 100ish, so I finally went to the doctor. Bronchitis with a sinus infection and a developing ear infection on top of it all! Ugh...so I'm on antibiotics, oral steroids, inhalor, cough syrup, and advil. I'm a freakin walking medicine cabinet. I am going back to work tomorrow...hopefully I can make it a whole day.

Good news is that my wedding dress arrived super early to my parent's house already! It wasn't supposed to be here till November 9th!

And I promise once I get all the pictures downloaded to my computer I'll post some of the cooler pictures of my Boston/Nashville trip and tell you all about it.

I gained 17 pounds over the summer. I'm not happy about it. I'm trying to work it off.

Lynet, congratulations on your anniversary :D

Shana, hope you get well soon. Congratulationds on the wedding dress :D

SBW--thanks for the new thread :D

Slim: welcome home :D

To all a good night :D

Ooo new name for the Offtopic Coffeehouse! Chit-chat: I like it! Suits me fine *nudge nudge* and I like the new What's New thread too, SBW.

Anyway, I just got back from a long holiday in England. It was great fun. Met a few old buddies and did some crazy activities like white water rafting (in Wales) it was great - I got soaking wet!

And (get this) I WENT WATER SKIING!!!!!! *dies*

:D I'm very proud of it 'cause I've never done it before and I thought I was going to fail miserably. But after millions of tries, I managed to do it! It was buckets of fun (literally lol) but very hard work on the arms.

Good to be back home, though.

Lol Muffin I remember my first water ski out on the ocean.
I skied 50klm Well after that I couldn't walk for a week. :D
I wish I went to England. I sorta miss it in a strange way.

Ouch. I can understand that though. I skied about 10 meters and I was exausted after that!! Blimey. I have no idea how you could manage to ski for that long. Just thinking of it makes my arms ache!

Odinmoon
08-10-2007, 05:14 AM
Well when you do it on the ocean Its a little more bumpy lol and you put ski rope around your back. And the real trick is to relax.:) I get up to 100klm so its not that long. But it hurts when you fall at that speed. One time i had black bruises all over my body.

Hope we see you more of you, Slim! Sorry I didn't notice you back before ... I've been sort busy and kept forgetting to post in this new wgat's new thread and so I didn't get subscribed to it.

What's new with me? On Friday morning I had a premonition and seriously considered going out to buy a Lotto ticket ...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6941673.stm

Waaaaaah!!!! Why didn't I buy a ticket? (I woould've treated all WS members with 300+ rep points to an Alienware puter and a ginormous caribbean beach-party/cookout ... so they could collect it in person (of course I would also have supplied strecth limo to the airport and 1st class air for the WS-er + SO. LOL a million $ party with another mill on the party favors ... small beer :p

Ah well, I had a lovely vacation two weeks ago, but uh...well...the bf and I mutually went to Splitsville afterwards. The long distance relationship finally took its toll and quite frankly it's been on the rocks a long time. The vacation was a confirmation. :o

I've gone through "the stages" and right now I'm fine. Fortunately in a week or so I'll have school to keep me occupied. :)

And yes since Splitsville I've had more time for Sims! :D

Haha, that's pretty good actually.

Ah, yes, Splitsville ain't a pretty place -- *cough* most of the time.

What's new with me? Not much really. The phone was ringing all day yesterday. My friends called to welcome me back and say thanks for the postcards I sent them. I had lunch with my lovely grandparents. That was nice. And I've been working on my stories for the Library. Hopefully there will be another one up there soon. :)

*sits*

You have no idea how long it's been since I've been able to do that. A few friends of mine and I have been planning a picnic for today and I've been cooking, cleaning, and doing other picnicky things all weekend.

In other news, my Mac's Superdrive isn't reading CD-Rs. So, if I can't resolve the problem, off to Apple she goes. I'm glad I bought the Applecare warranty. :D

Glad to hear ya'll are well. Sorry you didn't buy the lotto ticket, Mirelly. :(

Ah yes I know there's a fish out there with my name on it. A week of thinking about it made me come to that conclusion. :D

It also helps to run out and buy one of those Nintendo DS Lites. My bro's liking this phenomena that is Pokemon (though so am I, it's cute!). We've never had a Nintendo product before. :o

Wow, I am way behind. So much going on in everone's lives. What's going on in mine is I finished this, not sure what to call it, installment? season (like a TV show?), of Veronaville today. Still waiting nervously for comments *cough*. I'm already thinking of ideas for the next, but it won't be part of the contest. We're going on vacation and then work's set to get crazy busy.

Lynet and Sacha and Muffin are all writing exciting stories, and I wish Michelle would post some more installments of her excellent story about Diz Aster. Such good writers we have here, people: get reading!

Sorry about the weight gain, John, and I sympathize: it's a constant problem in my world too. Sorry you lost mod privs Slim but I have no doubt you can earn them back. And sorry you're so sick, Chee-Z! That stinks. And I think I'm sorry about the BF, Muffin, but only if you are ...

What's new with me is I keep injuring myself. Yesterday I wrecked my thumb fixing the toilet, ran over my middle toe with our heavy, not quite plumb back door (OW!), and the kitten saw a big dog and ran right up my front and down my back. Note to self, do not hold kitten near window.

But, we're going on vacation next week, to a hotel with a water park, hotel for hubby and me, water park part for Witch Baby, and the next Monday's our anniversary so we're ditching the kid at a friend's house Saturday night and hitting the town.

Happy anniversary, Lynet! How many years now? Hope you and Ed had fun.

JohnEZ
08-13-2007, 09:05 AM
Sorry to hear about the constant injuries, I know what you mean about that... but unlike your stuff, mine is just out of being clumsy--tripping up/down stairs, slamming fingers in drawers, and who can forget the occasional walking into walls. loads of fun, right?

Anyway, congratulations on your Anniversary. Enjoy your time with your husband, and have fun hitting the town. :D

surprised_by_witches

I guess I haven't been around too much, at least to post, although I've been going right to the library to read new chapters.

Chee-Z, I'm glad to hear you are recovering OK.
Odinmoon, you should write a book about all your adventures. Every time I come here I'm reading about yet another one.
SBW, how can you get any writing done with all that action in your house? :D I think you need armor, maybe chain mail.
Muffin, congratulations on a new skill. My husband skis, both water and snow, and has tried to talk me into the water. I tried snow and decided I didn't like having to run into fences in order to stop. (I couldn't figure out how else to stop.) As for water, I'll die before I let anyone see me in a bathing suit. :o
Get some rest, John.
Mirelly, go buy a ticket.

I'm still with the old job, putting in some long days, but Friday is the LAST and I'm done with the old! Then a week off. Then a week in California. And THEN my days are booked solid through the end of the year, one audit client after another, or so I've heard.

So I'd better do 4 months worth of simming next week. :D

That's my plan, to finish the story next week. Sometimes, however, sims lead me in directions I had not intended, nor expected. *sigh* So I'm faced with a fork in the road.

You know, I always start out with big plans, hand out the story script, and say, "Here's the part you play. Stick to it!"

Then they adlib all over the place. :(

Man, isn't THAT the truth! I downloaded one of those hacks that allow Sims a little more autonomy and free-will, particularly in the Romance interactions...Imagine my surprise when one of my main sims suddenly started having morning sickness! I'm like, "Just what have you been doing, Missy, and just who have you been doing it with???"

So then I'm faced with, do I write it into the story, or just pretend it never happened? (You know, start taking pictures of the now-pregnant sim from the neck up, and later just try to ignore the strange child who suddenly starts showing up in the back ground).

Well I ended up writing it in, but you'll just have to wait and see who get's pregnant, and who the father is, won't you!

That hack, do you remember what it's called? I think i had it before i cleaned out my download folder. Will it mess up my game though?

It depends on what you mean by "mess up." If by "mess up," you mean more unexpected flirting, unplanned pregnencies, more jealous temper tantrums, then the answer is yes...it will mess up your game.

If, however, you mean will it cause my game to slow down to a crawl and eventually explode into a GBFBVFS, then no, I don't think so. It seems to be prety well tested and stable, but of course you are always taking a risk with any hack.

As for what it's called, I don't think I'm allowed to say on this site (being a family site and all), but i think that I can tell you that it's a twojeffs hack over at moreawesomethanyou.com.

Oh, I dunno if you can call my water skiing a skill exactly. :silly: I got more skill at falling in than water skiing.

I hate skiing on snow. My mum loves it though and she's really good at it. One winter she made us go out skiing with her and what a disaster that turned out to be! It all ended with me, my sister and brother lying in a heap in the snow with our skis tangled in each others, hogging up all the space so that the pro skiers couldn't get past us! Mum never made us go skiing with her again.
As for stopping, I think your supposed to put your skis in a V shape, but how your supposed to do that without falling and twisting your legs in awkward positions, remains a mystery to me. :o

LOL ... I really should read before looking at the pics. I was a little worried until I went back and read. Shana, that dress is beautiful and so are you. I can easily picture it on the day ... but I am looking forward to seeing the wedding pics.

This is high praise from me. I hate wedding pics because I like so few bridal gowns ... one is obliged to say something and mostly I feel despicable because I have to lie. I have kept quiet thus far because I didn't have to say anything. I don't have to say anything now, so I am happy to say the dress is gorgeous and so are you. :D

Oh, Shana, you look so beautiful. I am really looking forward to your wedding pictures.

I got some nice news from my brother. Disney/Pixar is building an animation studio in Burbank, CA. My brother has been appointed project manager in charge of the electronics installation. That's the 3D screen rooms, the post production suites where they add music, voice overs, do the film editing and such. Cool, yes! :D My brother is quite excited about the project, which will last 3 or 4 years.

And my high school is having a 40 year reunion in October. I've dusted off my yearbook and looked at the photographs of all my classmates. And me! Hard to believe I was 18 once upon a time. I should scan in my HS picture and use it as an avatar until the reunion and then replace it with one of my granddaughter. ;)

I don't think I'll recognize anyone. :o All those old people trying to dance! Actually, old people are a lot of fun to hang out with. We just don't photograph very well.

Thanks Mirelly!!! Believe me when I say it looks even better when it fits and the shoulder part actually lays right! There aren't a whole lot of bridal gowns I like either, so many are strapless with big poofs right now that it looks like a girl is sitting in a pile of marshmellows.

This dress actually wan't my favorite at first but was my mom's from the beginning. When I first tried it on in a wedding dress size 20 it fit in a similar way this one is currently fitting. 3 weeks later after loosing 10lbs we went back and I tried it on again and it zipped up and it was amazing! After loosing 30 total pounds we went back again and it was too big; the guessed with my weight loss I would fit into an 18 within a month. So we ordered the 16; which is comparible to a street size of 12 for those of you wondering. Yikes! I'm at a street size of 14 now, and planning on stepping up the exercise/diet routine so I'm hoping to fit into this within two months.

Thanks everyone else for their compliments as well!

And Lynet, have fun at your reunion! I agree with Mirelly that comment would make an excellant signature! I also like your avatar idea! Do it!

Sacharissa
08-18-2007, 01:13 PM
The dress is GORGEOUS, Shana! I love the detailing. Looking forward to seeing it in person!

And Hey, Lynet! I remember my last high school reunion. Most of the women had aged fairly well - at least you could still see the resemblance to their yearbook pictures. But the men? With several of them, I kept looking from them to their yearbook pictures, and I just wanted to say, who are you guys, and what have you done with my high school fantasy crushes?

08-18-2007, 02:35 PM
I also like your avatar idea! Do it!LOL, and so I did. Believe me, I don't look like that now. :o As Gypsy Rose Lee was supposed to have said, "I have everything I had 40 years ago, only lower."

LOL Believe that was the exact part of the first photo that had me thinking: "uh-oh!:" However the second photo down, showing the ... <ahem> brassiere detail :o ..., caused me to reconsider what I was looking at. I read the text above the pics and all became clear. Your weight-loss program is to your credit ... it was why I was misled by the first pic ... I was already impressed by an impressively slimmer you that I was trying to see the dress' positive features, because I felt that I wanted to voice my support and I felt that I wanted to give it honestly. :D

And thanks again Mirelly!

Sachrissa, I can't wait either! We'll have to take a "WorldSims" picture together at the wedding with SBW to show off to people here. :)

And Odimoon; South Beach Diet is what worked for me so far. It's no "bad" carbs the first two weeks. (no breads, pastas, sweets, and you have to really watch the veggies and fruits as some are too high in the bad sugars) After the first two weeks you then go to low carb. Still no pastas or sweets. Very limited whole wheat bread only; like half a sandwhich or a whole wheat wrap at most per day. And add in more veggies and fruits. Actually it's a diet they recommend most diabetics going on.

The first two weeks were hard for me. I'm a big pasta/bread/chocolate person. But honestly I was never hungry on this diet. There is no portion limit, you just can't eat certain foods. Once I got over the first few days of serious cravings it got a ton easier. Honestly I haven't been sticking to the diet at all for the past two months and starting today I'm doing another two weeks in hopes of jump starting myself again.

I found it also helped to keep a food journal and track what you were eating. Actually I used one online called fitday (http://fitday.com/WebFit/Index.html). Fairly simple to use and it really made me more aware of what I was eating throughout the day. You can also track your weight and exercise on this website.

That looks like a great dietary/exercise regime, Shana. It.s good to see diet and exercise co-managed and the web is a fabulous way to manage that, because it has the resources to catalogue a vast range of nutritional values and the computing power to make sense of it all. Way to go, gal!

Anyway, what's new with me is that we might be moving! My mum spotted an ad in the paper so we took a look around in the flat. It was HUGE! Not the biggest flat in the world but it was the biggest I've seen by far. And what's even better is that its only 10 meters or something away from where we live now. It looks a lot like our home and I think that's why we like it so much. The best of all is that it has 2 bathrooms!!! When two teenagers and one soon to be live in the same house with only one bathroom, there can be a lot of conflicts. Hehe.

No - that normal. It is just a warning that this is a hack, and therefore changes game play. Any use of a hack can be risky, but generally, if you get one from a trusted source, read all of the instructions and use them judiciously, you should be OK.

I'm pretty late, but I have to say that you look gorgeous, Shana, and you're going to look great on your big day. I'm not too good with the wedding compliments--haven't been to any myself, besides my cousin's when I was three or four, and I was too busy trying to keep myself from acting unruly to actually enjoy the ceremony. It was a Chinese-style wedding, too. My cousin did wear a gown, but there was no walk down the aisle or anything. Chinese weddings are all about the food.

On Friday there was a great big thunderstorm. I was playing TS2 (finally, after a few weeks' abstinence) in the basement, and my brother was on the other computer and my sister was watching TV. Suddenly there was a giant crack of thunder and my computer went off. I'd been in the middle of constructing an immense, incredibly complex Jiko-style pool house for a family of mermaids, and I had to rebuild it! But anyway, along with the crack of thunder there was a pop, like a gunshot, and the smell of smoke filled the room. My grandma's car alarm went off, too. Turns out something short-circuited, and our internet's power supply or something was broken.

Sachrissa, I can't wait either! We'll have to take a "WorldSims" picture together at the wedding with SBW to show off to people here. :)

Oh, you think you can catch me, hmmm? I don't normally allow myself to be photographed. We goddesses prefer to maintain a little mystery. :D Fabulous dress, by the way! I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. So nice of you to invite me to your wedding!

I love your avatar, Lynet. You were, and are, so pretty!

As for diets, Odinmoon, Weight Watchers works if you stick to it. I didn't, but keep trying to go back to it. It is a realistic diet because it lets you eat what you normally eat, and teaches you to control your portions.

What's new (old) with me is my poor puppy keeps scratching. We're going nuts trying to pinpoint the cause of her allergies. We've tried just about everything and I don't like the idea of steroids. Next is new food, again, I guess. Sigh.

The cat and the dog have become such good friends! I'll try to post a picture of them cuddling soon. This morning Elinor kept tripping Isabelle because she was literally underfoot (underbelly)? I told her "no" because she was trying to eat Izzy's food, and Izzy is so good she looked up like, "I thought this was mine, but if you say so," and I had to tell her it was OK to eat.

The difference between dogs and cats! Ellie just ignored me and kept chowing down. I had to push her out of the way. Izzy's a very polite dog. "Oh, did you want some? Help yourself."

This morning Ellie was so happy to see me she thought she'd jump the 14 feet between the dining room floor and the balcony, which I was leaning over to wish hubby a happy anniversary.

We've been married 13 years, today.

(I told Ellie to "use the stairs, doofus," and she did! Who says cats don't speak English.)

Have you got a red rug or carpet?

We have a maroonish one in the living room. Why? Are dogs allergic to red dye? We also have a red couch and a red chair.

I've got pictures of Ellie, they just take ten years to upload! I'll try to post some soon. She is rather adorable. Her tail looks like she stole it from a squirrel, it's so bushy. She looks like a Maine **** kitten, even though she's a "mutt." OMG the censor blooped the short word for raccoon. You've got to be kidding me. It's a CAT BREED. Sheesh.

Thanks for the well wishes! We celebrated our anniversary last weekend so today was kind of low key. Hubby did buy the cat food so I wouldn't have to, though, which is sort of like a present. :)

On Saturday we had dinner at the restaurant where we had our wedding reception. Yummy Greek food, and a bottle of wine . . .

Congrats SBW on the 13 years. I'm so glad for you. And your cat & dog sound so cute! :cloudnine:

Nothing much is new with me today. Just woke up *yawns and stretches* I'm not doing anything special today. Mum & Dad are at work, Shockerx has run off somewhere (I think she's sleeping over at her friend's house) and my brother is sound asleep in my room (he had a hard time sleeping so he thought he'd pay me a visit in the middle of the night ). So they've all left me to take care of my lil bro for the rest of the day. Lucky for them I haven't got any plans for today.

So I'm planning on writing today, play on sims and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3-- FINALLY I've figured out how to make your custom scenarios in that darn game. Took me long enough. I'm such a nit-wit at these things. :o

I hate censors, though I accept the need for them. All the same it seems a pity that US vice president cannot be named here (except formally as Richard Cheney) and worse, to my mind, the wonderful English town of S____horpe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S****horpe) has been forever consigned to the trash can.

Urrr ... just a bit. Well some animals are. It may be linked to the fact that red dye is used a lot by the pet food industry (much like peanut allergy in humans is linked to feeding peanuts to toddlers with immature immune systems.)

Try Google: pet allergy red dye

To be honest it was an issue that came up with a mutt I had many years ago. Most of the carpet on the ground floor was red and I was going nuts trying find a solution for the poor critter. But when the vet suggested I replace half my soft furnishings it was too much. We fixed her up eventually with a vegetarian diet ... which was cool cos it was also cheap. Dratted pedigrees! (she was a Golden Retriever ... and an expensive one at that! She must have been the runt of the line, cos she was practically useless at everything except to sit and look heart-meltingly mournful ... bless her.)

Since then I have stuck to plain old moggies (free to good homes) and full of hybrid vigour.

Just a little. Give me a stick and I'll poke something. :o

You should see me with a campfire.

Speaking of campfires, have any of you heard of a giant bee/fly bug with a stripey butt and black torso that's about the size of a bumblebee but much longer, that likes fire?

We had a whole nest of them at our campsite. We called them Volde-bugs (as in they who shall not be named). Every time one showed up Witch Baby ran for the tent.

They freaked me out too. They had a really loud buzz and I wasn't sure if they stung or not but wasn't about to test that.

I'd never seen a bug like that before. Yeesh.

It's a bit hard but I've figured out how to do most of the stuff. If you stick with the pre-made stuff you'll be fine. There's one thing that I haven't figured out how it works: the observation and freefall towers. Like how do you put the last top bit on the tower so that it's complete? I've tried mostly everything. That's why we got a kitten. Our old cat hated the dog, after all, she was there first and who was this interloper anyway? The kitten is very outgoing and almost from the start was more like, "Hi! Wanna play?"

After the dog got over her shock--a cat wants to play with me?--she was more than happy to oblige.

We think we've pinpointed her allergy: dust! I plan to get a better vacuum cleaner and a Hepa filter soon. Maybe that will stop all the scratching. Fingers crossed!

I love how sims call their dogs "woofums."

I remember buying my Dyson because I was convinced that the dust-free environment would be good for my chest. It made no difference ... I just had to stop smoking. Kids. It ain't big and it ain't clever ... I'm so glad I stopped. Back to the vacuum ... my Dyson is excellent but I wish it would use itself. I understand that Mr. Dyson is engaged in exhaustive R&D to such ends ... but I am somewhat ashamed to admit that, once the novelty of having a super-sucky vac had worn off (about a week or one use :o ) I returned to my former practise of vacuuming only when I was expecting company ....

Ssh! I thought that was supposed to be a secret. ;)

They do have those self propelled vaccs now that hunt out dirt on their own.... is that what you had in mind?

If cleaning merely involved pushing a machine over floors and ignoring all the corners, shelves, cornices and under stuff, then I, for one, can claim to do that regularly.

In the days before the Dyson, I always added a drop of vanilla essence to a new vacuum bag. 2 minutes pushing the Hoover up and down the hall and living room does wonders for the environment score.

I think Mr Dyson is aiming toward something more like a Servo ....

That would be nice, wouldn't it? As long as it didn't have ambitions of world domination. Or at least had its priorities straight. No, no, clean the house first, then take over Tokyo.

That is the rub, isn't it? You have to use the vacuum for it to work. But my old one's a hunk of junk, so it's time. The theory is, if the vacuum is powerful enough and doesn't smell like burning rubber (like my present one) I might actually use it once in a while.

Kitty's looking foward to meeting you, too, Sacha, BTW. And Shana, if she can tear herself away from her wedding plans or her Mormon sims. Yes, she is a lot bigger, more than doubled in size since we got her. I swear every morning she weighs more.

Agh! BFBVFS!

Actually, not really. The problem with the computer wasn't at all related to TS2. But anyway, today I broke the computer. I was looking at some stuff on deviantart.com and playing with ugly sims in Body Shop, and then the computer froze. So I waited a few minutes, and when it didn't thaw I turned off the computer via the start-up button and then turned it back on. Unfortunately, it said Windows couldn't start because of some problem or other that I didn't read about. I was going to call for my brother, but then I thought, "You know what? I'm not just some helpless girl. I can figure this out myself!" So I fiddled around with the options, but then the same error kept coming up, and eventually I decide to just wait for my brother to finish whatever it was he'd been doing. After a few minutes he declared that I had indeed broken the computer.

*Sob* So anyway, we have to reformat it, but now I'm going to lose all my sim files. Again. I'm beginning to think that starting up new legacies is useless if the comp's going to crash almost every summer (and why does it always happen in the summertime?)

And you know, I made an orphanage the other day and I was really enjoying playing it. I haven't had a lot of fun simming in a while, and it was nice and refreshing. I even had a good storyline going and I was thinking of starting up a story in the Library (though it hasn't been working for me the last few days. Can't read any of your stories), but then I went and broke the computer.

Mirelly

Hi 123. Sorry to hear of your woes. Ask your brother if he can split your hard disc into 2 partitions. One for Windows and program files and the other for documents. Then if Windows ever needs reinstalling you can do it without risk of losing previously saved files.

I have Windows on Drive C and My Documents is on Drive D:

C: and D: are both partitons on the same hard drive. It was all done with Windows installer at the time of reinstalling Windows ... but can't be done after without starting over, so now is a good time to do it if you have a large enough hard disc. I'd say at least 80GB for basic use and 200GB if you intend/need to keep a lot of media files such as MP3s, pics and movies.

Chee-Z
08-30-2007, 07:44 AM
They say (not sure who "they" are but I heard it from my technically incline brother ) that it's a good thing to reformat a computer once a year in order to "start fresh" and get rid of files, spyware, viruses, etc. that come with a year's worth of use. However, most sane people like all of us here would rather not do that. I had a desktop that'd conk out every winter and replacing the motherboard and reformatting seemed to do the trick.

For preparation of the next time your computer implodes, I would suggest backing up your EA folder to a CD, external harddrive, another computer on a network, or getting a personal flash drive that can hold your work. I haven't been backing up as much as I should but it's a good idea.

What's new with me:
I've been broken up with my online boyfriend for about a month now, and I've realized that I'm better off without him. What an ***. Funny how the mind works, and how the process of dating functions.
Then the irony of ironies is that an old friend from elementary school got in touch with me, wanting to reconnect, and she's now married with a kid (keep in mind, we're both like 20 years old). Go figure, and what timing: ten years later after she disappeared off the face of the earth, and right after my highschool sweetheart and I broke up. No thanks, don't need a reminder of bad times. :o
I started back to college and will be busy with that. I'll be taking photos for photojournalism and writing articles for a news website for my journalism major, which I'd be happy to share. :)
I hadn't had much time for Sims obviously :( but I have the new storyline going for my story thread so that'll be refreshing for me. No sense starting from scratch when there's a Sim ready to play. :)
I now have my own personal Nintendo DS for Brain Age 2 and Pokemon Diamond. My score in Brain Age is currently at 57 or something. :o I may have a Wigglytuff as an avatar but this is my first time playing Pokemon.

Pokemon is one of my favorite games! I really want a DS, but I figure it's bad timing, right before high school and all. I have a pretty busy schedule next year.

This summer two of our computers broke. My sister and brother lost all of their important stuff from school, so now we're all buying our own flash/zip/thumb drives (why are there so many names for it?). That reminds me--a while ago I saw a picture of a thumb drive shaped like an actual thumb. I also saw a picture of a flash drive inside a teddy bear, and in order to plug it in you have to rip off the bear's head.

Heh. That's strangely appealing.

So sorry about your computer woes, 123. That's hard. I just found out what a DS was, today. Two people brought their sons to work with them and they synched up their DSs so they could play games. I had no idea such a thing existed.

I bought an external harddrive called my book or some such. It's really cute. I have all my simmies backed up on there so if I get the fiery thingy I won't have to throw myself off a bridge.

It's $99 but holds everything (250 GB). The cheapest larger jump drive I could find was $40 for about 5 GB, which won't hold all my sims, don't know about yours.

Aaah today was a long day. It is SO hard keeping track of if i have homework! Gaa! My mom will call after school, "Have any homework?" "Pssssh i have no idea" So tonight is open house, AKA, she gets to navigate my classrooms in the amout of time i have to.

BTW im taking-

1st hr, Life Science
2nd hr, Advanced Sudies
3rd hr, Gym
4th hr, Honors Social Studies
--Lunch Baby!--
5th hr, Interactive Science
6th hr, Honors English
7th hr, Honors Math

There are two buildings that make up the JH, The Math and Social Stud. building, and everything else. And i have 5 mins to get from class to class.

Wow, you're only 12 and you're already taking Honors classes? Then again, I don't know if they're the same at your school as at mine.

My schedule, when school starts, is going to be pretty crazy. For every one of my core subjects, I'm taking an Honors class: Biology Honors, Geometry Honors, English Honors, Modern World History Honors, and French 2 Honors. I'm probably going to die. I'm also not looking forward to having to learn the layout of the high school. *Sigh* I don't want to be a freshman.

I have gym for my first class, too! That has to be the thing I hate most about my schedule. I'll be sweaty for the rest of the day...

So, there I was, sitting in my room, windows open, enjoying the cool evening breezes. I was writing, trying to finish a few more chapters for my story before tomorrow night's deadline.

All of a sudden, right outside my window, I brakes and tires squealing, and then shouting:

"Get out of the car! On the ground! Hands up! Don't move!!!"

So I go to the window to check it out, and it's like this major bust! Five regular squad cars, four unmarked cop cars, and about 20 cops (several with bulletproof vests and guns drawn)! They've got two guys on the ground in handcuffs, and it's like a scene from Law and Order or SWAT!

So, I guess that was my excitement for the night!

Sorry about your schedule, 123. That's rough. Sweaty all day, yuck. (Don't they let you shower?)

We went to Witch Baby's open house last night and met her teacher and her GT (gifted and talented) teacher. Both seem very nice. I hate it when I'm older than the teacher, though. When did that happen?

What's new is that I have a blog entry still sitting in draft mode because I am too chicken to post it. The other day a friend was in a pre-occupied mood and over the course of a few hours, Auntie Mirelly was made privy to an ancient secret. And I thought soap operas were melodramatic! It's not my family, but what on earth does one do with a family destroying secret? I tried persuading my friend that openness was for the best, that forgiveness/understanding cannot begin until the secrets are aired (this, given that distrust and suspicion, already exists :( ), but my friend is too scared of the consequences even to consider it.

TGIF anyway. I have an appointment with a large glassful of the fruit of the vine and after that I shan't care about anything except deciding on whether to clear out my garden shed this weekend or tackling the ivy that is slowly choking the southwest wing of Mirelly Hall. The latter job should be considered urgent because another postponement could lead to TV aerial (antenna) downage ... trouble is ivy usually conceals lots of eight-legged beasties; not my favourite critters.

Yes the DS is a neat gadget. My bros have them as well. One time we had a Brain Age competition going and it involved my parents. Hehe family fun. :D

I feel all giddy about making my school schedule every year. Though wait til you get to college: I've had to sprint from the communications building to the P.E. building down the street in 15 minutes. :o So feel happy now that you only have to go between two buildings now. :)

Oh, don't even get me thinking about school. This year for me is going to be busy, busy, busy. Last year was hell, I'm telling you. *sigh* What with all the tests every week and all. Seriously, what do teachers like so much about tests? And the word 'grades' sends chills up my spine.

I haven't been on for a few days because my internet has been sooo slooooow. Broadband my ***. We were all keeping our fingers crossed that it would fix itself soon and I guess it did 'cause it's fine now. Hope it doesn't happen again. Half a day of no lessons completely wasted because of the snail net. So I had to go back in time to the victorian age and read all day and *ahem* watch TV. :o

... And that's pretty much everything. Oh and I've been playing sims of course. Took one look at the old Favourite Download Sites and look where it landed me. With a hell of a lot of new stuff for my simmies. (What is with the thrill of getting new stuff? It's so weird, and I'm a sucker for it every time.) Well, going horse riding in the rain was relaxing. I am trying to up the rep points of you guys cos rep points also lead to custom avatarhood. Moon has been a constantly good poster with great advice and stuff, but I am blocked from adding rep to Moon cos I've already given some and "need to spread it around before adding more."

Aw, Chris. I know how you feel. I remember once, when I was working anti-social hours, that some member of the public made a sarcy comment to the effect: "they must be paying you a lot to be working this late" ... hours later, and still in a bad mood I thought of a smart-arse reply. It was scant consolation, but it helped a bit to put a smile back on me boat. I should've come back smartly with: "well you must be paid a lot because you aren't working this late!"

Anyway. My puter is busy dying at the moment. Actually it's just the graphics card wot's dyin' and I am holding off on BV until I sort things out. Trouble is ... I only have a socket A mobo with AGP. So just buying a decent gpu is an expensive dead end ... plus I'd need a new psu for any sort of graphics card with any oomph. I costed out a Ł200 upgrade (1GB DDR 400, ATI X1950 Pro 512MB, & 450watt psu) and thought what's the point of that! Now I am looking at the following:
Gigabyte M55-S S3 (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2316)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Brisbane) (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=605608)
2GB 800 MHz DDR2 RAM
Zalman super quiet 480 watt PSU
Sapphire x1950 Pro 512MB PCIe (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=607418)All for Ł333.05 inc vat and delivery.

Any geeks with comments? Value? If I swap out the hardware and leave Windows untouched on the HD will it (Windows) have a cow when I reboot after such a transplant? (I ask cos I am proposing to upgrade to Vista next year and I can't face the hassle of wasting a day installing stuff. It's not so much the OS as all the ancilliary guff that takes the time ... and that's before one even gets around to bunging useful stuff like games in.

Just as a PS ... the above package does what I have done with every previous upgrade. Every single item is double the speed/capacity of its predecessor (I love the idea of the X1950 cos it has double the RAM with double the memory bus and close to double the clock speed of my existing fx 5600 ... and thats before we start looking at the faster memory. Of course the system RAM is twice as much and twice as fast as is the processor. Trouble is the PSU is also 3 times the power ... I'll have to plant a few trees to offset me carbon footprint. (And maybe fit a cooling fan on the 'lecky meter :p )

I LOVE ebay! So far I've got my necklace, earings, flower girl baskets/ring bearer pillow (haven't arrived yet), fake fur shrugs for the girls and myself, and my tiara on ebay for the wedding. I contemplated getting my dress on ebay as well; quite a few dress makers there who will custom make it to your size but then I fell in love with one I tried on instead!

And I'm soooo jealous of your honeymoon. So far we don't have anything planned. *sigh* Brandon has never flown and I've yet to convince him that he wants to. So in the freakin end of January in Minnesota; one of the coldest months of the year, we will more then likely be heading up North to go to one of the ski lodges up there...but neither of us ski. So we'll bundle up inside around a fireplace and make sure we have a jacuzzi suite and get a few massages at the lodge spa. It will be nice I'm sure, but I'd still rather be on a beach.

Hehe muffin - I would have bunked off maths too, I always hated it, still do. :p

Well, talking of maths, numbers and such, what's new with me is that I had to make a very embarrassing phone call to my bank this morning. :o My bank card expires at the end of this month, and only yesterday I was thinking that the replacement card had better arrive soon. So, this morning it arrived and there I was all excited to get my shiny sparkling new bank card. When I opened the envelope and took a look, sure enough, shiny sparkling new bank card BUT when I saw the new card number I freaked out. Amongst the long line of digits, one of the sets of numbers contained number 13. It also arrived today, the 13th too. TOO FREAKY! I am phobic about the number 13 and so I called my bank - the guy on the phone was quite amused and even laughed about it. Luckily he was also happy to order a new card for me, and cancelled the new one on the system.

I'm sorry but if I had to carry the number 13 around with me in my purse, let alone look at it when I use it, I would be insane after a week. New card lasts for 3 years so nuh uh, new card pl0x!!1 :o

I haven't been on a plane before either, but the only time we will be flying is from Melbourne to Sydney, so it will only take an hour. I can handle an hour for my first time I think.

We haven't actually booked the honeymoon yet, we're still trying to find the right price for what we want, but hopefully we'll get some good answers soon.

As for eBay, I've done a lot of the little stuff that I wouldn't know where to go in a shop. I bought a guestbook, bubbles and am currently looking for bulk lots of disposable cameras. Something strange just happened. I was sitting down in the study minding my own business on the net, when the lights went out. I turned off all the lights I had on, and went out to check the safety switch. The lights one was out. I turned it back on and there was a bang (missed a light, doh!) so turned that light off and tried again. Hooray I have light. And about 3 or 4 blown globes . I just love it when Ash is on night shift AND leaves his phone at home . Anyhoo, I'm now leaving all the lights off and will let him know about it when he gets home in the morning.

Hooky Bunk ? Whats this? We wag school or Jig school.:D

LOL that's funny. Wag school. When I write that I can see a teacher wagging her finger at me in my head. Maybe that's why it's called wagging school in Australia?

I never played hooky from grade school. Too timid. In college, however, I was always missing classes. Needless to say, it took me about 20 years to get my degree. :o So I suggest not missing classes in college.

Ha, I wagged a class in year 9 (bout 15). We sat on the oval, and only got caught cuz one of the assistant principals was driving somewhere else :o. Pretty stupid place to go really. In my later years I just went home. Went through a real don't want to do it anymore phase in my last year.

I only played hooky from assemblies, myself. Useless waste of time, IMHO. My friend and I would go to her house a few blocks away and listen to music.

Hey, just in case you thought pigeons were completely useless, here's a sweet story from CuteOverload.com:

Annoying pigeons CAN redeem themselves!
According to reports, this abandoned baby monkey, "close to death, is revived by the love of a bird. Taken to an animal hospital, he was weaned back to physical health but still showed little appetite for life.
It was not until a fellow patient, a white pigeon, took him under her wing and showed him love and affection that he perked up. Now the two are inseparable, say staff."

Oh, that's sooo cute. All of us need affection, don't we.

I'm home from work today. I'm supposed to be off work on Fridays but I wasn't sure it was going to happen this week. I left stuff undone, but my supervisor, Steve, said that I would probably have time available in my schedule next week to finish it.

Thank goodness. I'm exhausted. It'll take time for this lazy body to get used to a whole new set of demands on it. :o I'm actually falling asleep by 10 PM. Getting up at 6. Most of you may roll your eyes and think ho-hum, but I'd gotten quite used to shorter work days and a minimal (1.5 miles) commute. Too bad that job was so screamingly boring.

That's one lovely story. :)

Lynet. Hang in there. :) It can only get worse (joke).. I do hope (sincerely) that your work is giving you what you want from it, despite long hours and long travels it seems.

I finally finished my paperwork for our company website. PHEW!!! You do actually need to know the stuff somewhat in order to get the writing right as well as pics. It's going with the mail tomorrow and will be at the designer's by Monday. Then they will need about 2 weeks to finish it off. Otherwise. it's up temporarily now: http://www.plvac.com (http://www.plvac.com/)
It will be about 4 times as much on it when finished as well as many texts translated into english as well.
I also trying to get names for some of my african violets. I just learned that one might actually be a new sort!!! I now know what to do to test if it's stable and then I might be able to register a new one. Would be waaaay cool. In my photobucket I have pics of it. It's blue-white. http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e271/Polstjaernans/
Look under my pictures.

I also found out that I can't use messenger without upgrading to windows live!!! And I do NOT want that. 2 of my email accounts have been upgraded and I lost ALL sub folders - ALL emails etc... And they were important as they were about trading with guinea pigs to-from UK, Denmark, Finland and Norway!!! Also replies to ads I have out re animals for sale... Absolutely horrifying! I don't even now if it's legal to just upgrade peoples stuff without they permit it first. At least not here I think it would be. Oh well. There's nothing I can do about it though. So it's no point in going totally :biting: and :hissyfit:

Muffin, is your avatar from a painting by Enayla, or Linda Bergkvist? Looks familiar to me.

Agh, high school is so scary. My Geometry teacher is so tricky. He likes asking us true/false questions (just as an example, 'If two planes intersect, their intersection is a line') and half of the time it's the answer other than the one that first occurs to us, while the other half of the time it's actually the first answer that occurred to us but we decided to answer differently because we think he's tricking us, but...*rubs temples* Tricky, tricky, tricky. The seniors are so intimidating, too. They always steal our lunch table and we're too cowardly to steal it back the next day, so my group of friends and I have been steadily moving around the cafeteria day by day.

Lynet, don't feel weird for wanting to go to sleep so early--I wish I could go to sleep at 9! My pubescent body is screaming for ten hours of sleep, but all I can give it is seven.

I have no idea. It could be Enayla, that name sounds really familiar.. I chose to have that pic as an avatar because I really like fairy pictures (good ones, I mean). :)

<edit> I did a google search and look what I found: My avatar! And lots of other pretty paintings. So the answer is yes, person123, the painting is by Linda Bergkvist/Enayla.

I played sims all day.

I really should write that in a "What's NOT New" thread, if we had one. :p

In between running to the dry cleaners and the grocery, and doing some laundry, I played with my new character Zygmunt. This is a novelty for me. Although I'm writing a story about him, I'm playing with him, too, because I decided I wouldn't use cheats for this one. I'm sort of following the legacy challenge--big piece of property and he's got to marry a townie and start a dynasty. I say 'sort of' because I did allow him to buy downloads that cost almost nothing. And one "generator." Obviously, since he's out in the wilderness, he needed a generator for his refrigerator. It cost a lot, but he's got to have a refrigerator for food, so I gave him exact change to buy the generator, and he can't sell it.

Boy, is he struggling. :o It was an expensive piece of property (I did raise hills on it--that's expensive.) I hope I can get something written up to post tomorrow.

So I've got to go! :p

When I started to write another chapter, I realized that he needed a generator for his refrigerator. He is, after all, way out in a desolate area. So I went to MTS2 and searched for a download. I found only one thing that fit the bill, although it's quite weird. And it cost 10,000 simoleons. But I decided that the story needed it.

Visitors always want to play with it, and that knocks out the electricity for 7 hours. Seriously. Zygmunt's lights won't work for 7 hours. So as soon as he can afford it, I'm going to build a fence around it. :o I need lights for taking pictures, for Pete's sake!

Yes! It was a perfect day for the Renaissance Festival...Sunny and cool (maybe a little TOO cool in the morning, but it warmed up OK!) and it was really fun acting as "tour guide" for SBW and Witch Baby! The entertainment and demonstrations were fun, and the food was great...especially the roasted corn on the cob! (Sorry SBW, you and Witch Baby had already left by then! And, of course, the shopping was a little too good! You should have seen what I picked up after you'd gone!)

You'll have to show me your treasures! I wish now that I'd bought those games we were looking at. I'm going to see if they have them online.

Roasted corn does sound yummy! Oh, well. We were ready to go. I could tell Witch Baby was getting a bit overwhelmed. She had a blast at the sleepover: our mutual friend tells me she took the lead in a long extended imaginary play session, in which they were all students at Hogwarts. They wove all the party activities into that scheme.

Helen, do you live in the part of Sweden that doesn't see the sun for half the year? Or further south? I've always wanted to visit: it seems like such a lovely country. And I'm certainly used to the climate, living on the same latitude! (Or is it longitude? I always forget.)

I live near Stockholm, about a 1/3 up from the very south. Yes it's dark here during the winter. But not as dark as it is above the polar circle. When (if) the snow comes it's a total difference as the snow lights up very much. Here's some pics from the winter 2005/2006. Lots of snow that winter!!! :D And there were more to come....

Anyway. Summer is nice here - when it's not raining. :D And if anyone goes to Stockholm at any point - please contact me in advance. Would be SO cool to meet for a coffee or so...

Helen, I envy you soooo much! I absolutely love the snow and we just don't get enough here in Britain. I always wish we had more snow, and it's funny because today you're wanting the sun, yet today is the first day we've had a cold autumn day this year. Even when we had over a month of heavy rain and floods it wasn't really cold, but today it's brrrrrrr weather and I'm loving it!

Of course, I like the autumn colours too - not just the leaves and so on, but the lighting too. Last night there was a gorgeous sunset that lit the sky with orange on the layers of clouds and it was just beautiful. :)

Boy, that is the tuth...There is something about the quality of light in Britain that is different than just about anywhere else...to me it has a kind of watercolour feel to it. Once in a very great while, we get a day here in Minnesota that has that same quality and it takes me straight back to England!

I just got home from my first day of practical experience at a stable near me. It was exhausting. The horses don't know how bloody lucky they are! Other than that, it was pretty OK. I got to go horse riding a little bit as well. :)

Funny, I was just now talking to a fellow horse lover here at work. I used to love to ride. I was pretty good, too.

I keep trying to talk hubby into going to England with me, but he doesn't think it sounds like his cuppa. He'd rather go to Greece.

Helen, I envy you soooo much! I absolutely love the snow and we just don't get enough here in Britain.

I know Hugz. :) So my suggestion to you is: Get over here in the winter and visit us. Snow inside Stockholm City is no fun whatsoever as they put out so much salt on the roads, so everything gets very Slushy and slippery... But on the country side... A totally different story. Also I've noticed that the coldness in UK is damp... And the temp is near 0 (zero) Celsius... That's the worse!

When it's about 7-10 minus C here, sunny and not much wind - absolutely gorgeous! The cold is dry and that makes a world of difference. Also at that temp - no more salt. :D Take hubby and come visit us. Hopefully we get enough snow this year to make it worthwhile. January-February is probably the best time. Daylight starts to come back then as well. Or. Go to the Ice Hotel (http://www.icehotel.se/) in Lappland. There you can see lots and lots of snow. It's dark most time day/night, but I talked to people from Uk that's been there and they said it was an experience worth everything. There's a button upper right for english.

Muffin. I would LOVE what you are doing right now. :bunny: But it's for sure a real hard job. I used to work for a while in a riding school when I was a teen. After a while you do get way stronger. :p
