September 5, 2007 - At EA's Showcase 2007 event down at their headquarters in Redwood City today, we finally had the chance to get behind the wheel of SimCity and check out some of the basic game functionality. Our time was short so there's a lot more to explore, but we were pleased with the interface and how easy it was to get a city up and running.
Since we only had about a half-hour or so, a time egregiously small for a city builder, to play with SimCity Societies (http://pc.ign.com/objects/925/925931.html), we're stuck to the tutorial level of the game and wandered our way through the most basic aspects of city building. The tutorial was very helpful as we had expected it would be and taught everything from placing buildings to how the societal values function.
