I've seen a few threads like this, but none of them seem to be answered.

My problem is this: When I double-click on the Sims 2 icon, it bounces in the Dock a few times, just like any other Mac application. However, a few seconds later the game quits, without starting up, and without any kind of error message. This happens every time I try to open the game.

Im currently running Mac Os X 10.4.10 on a PowerPC G4 with Dual 1.25 Ghz processors and 1.25 GB of RAM.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I don't know if I'm going to be much of a help, because while I'm a mac user, I don't have TS2 for Mac--I have to resort to the PC. :(

So, I'm going to ask... does this happen in every user account, or just yours?

Thanks for replying :)

I've tried to open the game on 2 different user accounts, and the same happens on both. I have no idea what to do :(

Ahhh... sorry, I have no idea. :(

Are there any preference files that might be associated with TS2 that have gone corrupt?

This is happening to me, as well.

I'm playing on a 2.33GHz MacBook Pro with 2gb of RAM and an ATI Radeon X1600 video card.

It worked just fine when running under 10.3.9? I think it was, but I upgraded to 10.4.10, and *poof* nothing. 10.4.11, same thing. It bounces in the dock a few times, then quits and tells me "the application the sims 2 has unexpectedly quit" blah blah...

THEN my HD crashed, and had to be replaced. SO - This issue is happening even when it's base game only, direct from the DVD, with no custom content, on a clean drive (apart from what comes with any Mac.)

I have a ticket open with Aspyr as of tonight... I haven't been able to find anything anywhere online about this other than "it's 10.4.10/10.4.11 and there's nothing you can do about it" I sure hope that's not the case.

So - Mine is fixed, for the time being, at least!! Even after following
their instructions, the game crashed in the same way until I installed
the Rev F patch. I haven't had so much as a hiccup, since!

Here's what Aspyr said:
"Your Software Updater may have downloaded a corrupted version of
Quicktime, or your computer may have come standard with it. This version of
Quicktime 7.3 has corrected the other version, but they did not change
the name of the update, so your Software Updater will not recognize it
as a new update.

You will need to download this update directly from the Quicktime
website.

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Install this update, and restart your computer.

Try launching the game. If the game is still quitting out on
you it is possible that the installation process was not
complete. Tryuninstalling the game. When removing The
Sims 2 make sure that all game related files and folders
are deleted. Be sure to remove all preferencefiles such as:
Home/Library/Preferences/com.aspyr.thesims2.plist

Also remove the EA Games folder from your Documents folder as well as
The Sims 2 game folder"
