this is a picture of an ocean world from Spore! :bouncy:

And I just want to say that THAT looks amazing! I think I'm gonna make something water-ish.. perfect beautiful water-creatures to fit into that BEAUTIFUL ocean-world.. I can't help it I'm shocked! I never thought about that fact with all the plants and cliffs and and and... :spin:

What do you guys think??

I LOVE IT!! <3 Must make giantic sea-serpents! I go desingning.
PS: land-world looks a little ugly at side of this. Look at the demo! In "spear-age" there's gray and boring. But look under the water! Amazing.

I almost wonder if that's just a conceptual design, and not an actual shot from the game. It's beautiful and all, and I hope that's what the game will end up looking like in the end (both above and below water), but it would be unusual for the land to look as frumpy as it does with a gorgeous underwater world like that.

I have to agree on this, it might be an art picture or something...

id have thought from a technological standpoint that the underwater world looking like that was possible. The only thing is Will Wright said that the world is all made procedurally, so thats randomly built up based on scripts etc.

So it probably wouldnt look as... modelled as that picture. Although the buildings ofc would be your own design, so they could look how you please.

It's concept art. Look at the coloring. Does that look a filter to you? I think not.

ok maybe those light-effects is a bit too much, but I like the cliffs anyway! and the waters blue-ness and all the phantastic flowers  I know I sound like some hippie or like that, but that's also exactly how my race underwater, my Merds are going to be!

Just imaging putting a city in the center of that picture.. and remove the weird light effects.. then it still looks like a beautiful city!! :spin:

06-13-2005, 07:46 PM
...so what if I want an ugly underwater city? What then?

Light-effects are beauty! Otherwise theres dark like in the cave (I think that's in cave and light comes out of small holes) Flowers makes light of course but not very much.

This is one of the conceptual paintings(or whatever medium it is) that the Spore team is using for ideas that they want players to be able to create. Wright talked about this in one of GamingSteve's interviews. This is not a screenshot, it's not even a render. The only time it would have ever hit a computer at all was if it was being touched up in photoshop or something, so it would look all nice and pretty for the audience to wow over.

Though, the oceans in-game do look pretty nice, regardless.

yah,, it may look a little TOO designed...

But at least it can give us some ideas of what the intelectual underwater city could look like?

In the GDC video the water is beautiful, so if the lights becomes removed, it would look alot like the game (as it is now) :spin:

...so what if I want an ugly underwater city? What then?

Then......maybe there will be some terrain editing tools?

I read the interview aswell, very informative. I also like the hwole, making space and planets and suns thing. Nebulas, black holes. Also changing plants n stuff. Also awesome.

I think that this was already answered, if you have anything new to say, say it, but if you're going to repeat again and again, it won't help abybody.

As far as I know, the offical statement was, that it would be released past March 2007 and wont see an E3 again, giving it a release span between April to Early May 2007.

Hmph. It's not even remotely related to the topic anyway. Release date discussion resides here (http://www.snootyspore.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=337). Meanwhile, in on-topic-land, oooh, yes, concept art is pretty. Wait, this topic is months outdated now. Er... I'll leave it be then. *shuffles into horizon*

But why did Will Wright say "there are different kinds of vehicles including .... and submarines".

There would be no point in making submarines unless there was a city underwater.

Astrodog
08-15-2006, 01:30 PM
And how...I'd love to make an underwater city with skyscrapers so tall they stuck about above the surface

InvaderBlack
08-15-2006, 03:54 PM
Well, you could use submarines to attack someone who was on an island, or near the water. Or make a new city on an island or a seperate peice of land.

But, I have some bad news for everyone. I just read a new interveiw with WR on IGN, and he said that the underwater cities may be cut out. However if it is cut out, it'll be in an expansion pack.

Read the interview as well. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in other threads yet..but in the interview Wright confirms that you can have flying creatures! *wants to make a flying amphibious animal*

InvaderBlack
08-15-2006, 09:27 PM
Ah, like a penguin, only it can fly out of water, too... Interesting.

Gungnir
08-16-2006, 06:22 AM
that just gave me an idea..flying ostriches!

But wouldn't it be difficult to simulate water? Unless your creature has fins, it would move MUCH slower in water because it's thicker than air. And water creatures probably don't NEED fins.

Hmm..think that there'll be like, 2 different types of speeds? land and water? Wait..flying creatures..so, 3 types of speeds. land, air, water.

InvaderBlack
08-16-2006, 11:45 AM
I doubt, if there will be different speeds, that they'll be too different. But most likely it'll depend on the creature if there are different speeds.

I also doubt that you can have a flying/walking/swimming creature... What ever that's called.

Flank57
08-16-2006, 01:11 PM
Basically any of your aquatic fishing birds (loons, cormerants, pelicans...)

Gungnir
08-16-2006, 02:55 PM
Well..land animals go swimming, right? Tigers love to swim. Sure, they aren't the most agile creatures of water, but they swim. However, they're considered a "land animal". So..what do you think? If your creature is a land animal will it be able to swim to some degree? I sure hope so..

imported_artistvrd
08-16-2006, 03:12 PM
oh sure! I don't doubt swimming, the real question is about this topic: "living underwater through all six phases"

InvaderBlack
08-16-2006, 06:27 PM
Right, I'm sure swimming will deffinately be in the game for land animals... Well, if your creature is able to swim anyway...

But You can't there through all six, the space phase would be in space. Unless you can, like I've stated before, put a water filled bubbled around your ship.
