Hey all
I was thinking earlier (makes a change!!), that do you think it is possible to, whilst your creature is still evolving etc, to have other species come down in their UFO, and invade your planet?
Please correct me if not :D

It would be a challenge. Maybe as a certain scenario you can pick on your planet so its harder.

Yes, perhaps it could be an option in an options menu? :bouncy:

I beleive they stated that your race will never find another species thats more advanced then them.

I think you can find races more advanced than you, and creatures more evolved than you; I think the restriction is instead on the macro-levels of the game. You will not find animals until you leave the primordial soup, you will not find interstellar races until you are amongst the stars yourselves, and so on. An alien's weaponry and tech may be better than yours, but you won't encounter it until you are in the same time epoch as they.
Oh, and I might be wrong. I'm not a maxoid.

But think how cool it would be, think of your tribe dancing around the fire at night then something streaks across the sky. So you grab your spears and head out, you see that something has landed, so you hide in the tall grass. Something steps out... no many things step out all armed to the teeth. Suddenly they see you and your tribe then rushes forward to battle!
I mean I want a challenge just because they are the most technologically evolved doesn't mean they counquer all. (K.Kraden don't give me "well Hernando Cortes counquered the Aztects with technology :grumpy: ) I want some to be stronger so I can have a challenge. :spin:

Yyeah, I want a challenge as well.
Like I said, perhaps it could be an "option" :D

But... what would you do if the invaders kill off (most of) your species? You know, you could lose the battle... Maybe they could conquer your land? Which wouldn't be so good from your perspective. :D
Then again, I do understand what you are saying. It might be cool, and it would definitely be challenging, if you are up for the fight! Maybe we will have alien invaders! But I wonder if there will be an option for a rain check -- sometimes? :laughing2:

I still seriously doubt it would happen. It's too dangerous to the players to allow it, and the Maxoids have already said that they're not going to include this in the game. As far as I'm concerned, that's the end of it right there.

No, the AI most likely wouldn't be able to control a UFO.
Cerebral Stasis

And if they could, there would always be the chance that the enemy aliens would (through the personality built by the owner) just blow up the home planet and not even bother to land. That's exactly why WW made the game so that people can't play TOGETHER; there'll always be people who ruin the fun, and with an AI who just follows a few numerical rules, there wouldn't be anything to stop it from ruining the fun of the player.

It also allows the player to be the 'hero', that is, being able to achieve power much greater than any other opponent in the game. If it was an MMO, the game would have to be more balanced. I also agree that the game would lend itself to very noobish behavior if it was multiplayer. It would be too easy to kill other players when they're down.

One must hand it to WW, he's got some excellent ideas (the synchronous, but not simultaneous gameplay concept, for example) for this game, and it seems like this is one of his big brainchildren. I just hope he is spared the morning sickness and birth pains that go with it.

Hmmm... Hero... Just wondering, do you think the Spore website will have high score tables, like for species with the most friends, most enemies, most conquered land, and more? And if not, would Snooty Spore be able to do that somehow?

-Yeah or some kind of ingame statistic you can upload as an html file to look at
K.Kraden
09-16-2005, 09:18 AM
Oh gosh, I hope so. Remember the statistics pages in Black and White? I'd go in there half a dozen times a play session, just to see how much stronger or smarter or nicer my pet had gotten, and also to keep track of how my opponent was evolving as well. I even enjoyed reading the fun but ultimately useless statistics, such as how many scripts the game had run in its lifetime, as well as how many seconds I'd spent staring into the sun in the game.
If they don't put a statistics page in, though, we could always use a third party website. I know there are a couple of websites out there (dunno there names) that have templates for games and will track your progress if you set them up to do so. You can then put the link in your signature or whatnot, and let people know how talented you are.

it would be cool if aliens could come,, and make your own creature pets :laughing2:
do you guys think that there could be a possibility that "the invading aliens" could be friendly? and teach you stuff?

Though I dont agree with making EP's for Spore, basically because I dont see the point, when the finished product *should!* be complete, I would certainly like mods. :bouncy:

I was thinking of making special packs of IRKens and Sonic Characters.
They would be rip-offs, and therefore not be in the database.
The only way to get them would be to give them out on the sites, like those Sims Downloads.

That would be sweet. --The teaching thing, not the pets! Haha. Wonder if more intelligent creatures (whether they are yours, mine, or a default/NPC in Spore) could teach or train "dumber" creatures? Hehe... Now that I think about it, it would be cute if the little young creatures went to school, too... :D And they take their little alien pets with them...

Yeah, I look alot at my GTA:SA stats lately. Save the html file, leave the game and look at how much I advanced ^^

Ive read it somewhere that you can go to other planets, idolize yourself with the fledgling races, and interbread... etc. Kinda like the Egyptian theory.

WW mentioned something about monolyths; placing large structures on primitive planets and make yourself out to be a god, then watch how those races evolve with your presence (not really sure how that works, since I've never seen the movie that this idea originated from).
K.Kraden

There is no movie showing that off (yet), it's just an idea of one of the many different things you can do when you have developed the right technology.

An episode of Tripping the Rift uses the idea of monolyths, so I assumed it got the idea for another movie or television series (since that is where a lot of the jokes in television comedy come from, in order to better connect with those watching).
I'll see if I can find the exact words WW used concerning monolyths.

Wow, you've never heard of 2001: A Space Odyssey? That's where the monolith ideas originally came from. Trippin' the Rift ripped the joke from there. Also, fun tidbit of trivia, SimEarth (One of Will Wright's first games) also included monoliths. W2 has been playing with the uplift scenario in games previous as well as this one.

Of course I've HEARD of it; I've just never read/seen it.
Are you referring to the book or the movie?
I've never played SimEarth; just SimTown, SimAnt, SimSafari, SimCopter, SimCity 2000, 3000, 4, and Sims 1 and 2.

BUT the good thing with an EP could be... okay.. imagine
the designers are sitting playing Spore.. just playing and playing and playing,, then they SUDDENLY find something that they can put into the game, that'll make it all better  .. but.. I would prefer they just made it a download.. like a patch, instead of buying....... SOooo they make this new thing. Put's it on the internet and everybody's happy
ERGO = online downable EP's.... :laughing2:  :spin:

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO ON.
The point of this game is to promote irrational xenophobia, which is why all aliens will instantly attack you.

No, the aliens will only attack if they feel if they are being attacked. (I think)

Actually the game will mold itself to you. If you play the entire game annihiliating every creature on sight, when you go out and try to make interstellar friends they'll have a much higher chance to be warlike and aggressive with large armies, however, if you play it like a pacifist the chances will be better that other aliens are peaceful as well. That way, the angry players get war and the hippie players get peace.
Something to ponder. If a culture that was very agressive and warlike (like in the video) was placed next to a hippy planet, would they just have all looks and no fight, posers! Remember that your planet is downloaded into other peoples galaxies (or is it just your race?)
I also wonder if you could go to other planets and bear witness to their civil wars, be kinda cool.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. But, also, if your planet was not the fighting type, filled with rainbows and butterflies, and you were looking for a planet to make friends with... What would happen if you came across a species that was trained to be aggressive by another player? Would they be looking for a fight and win it with a few hints, or could it be possible to become friends?
And vice versa...
With the witnessing thing, that would be awesome! But I don't know if the player-created creatures will be smart enough to be all NPC-like on other planets, while you are viewing your own planet -- or if they will just be hiding until one comes over looking for a friend/foe, or until you leave your planet view/take your creatures outside of your planet? :indifferent:
Okay, now I'm confused, but does anyone understand what I am trying to say? :laughing2: Hope I inspire you to think of more questions and ideas to ponder. ;)

On the recent E3 demo they did say that it will be balanced.
