I thought it'd be a nice idea if some members here will contribute a nicely implemented "Facts Vs. Rumors" post that will explain what is confirmed and what isn't....
So, yeah, let's roll it and create a good starting point for the Spore-newbies ;)
The gathered posts will form a one long and very productive post that will be stick-ied later.

Fact: Robots are going to be in the game
Rumor: Cyborgs are going to be in the game
Rumor: Players will be able to completely build their own star systems and entire sections of space (W.W. said he wanted to include this feature but it might not be possible)
Fact: Creatures can be on land, in the sea, and in the air
Fact: Cities are in the oceans and on land only; there are no floating cities
Fact: Only one creature can naturally evolve intelligence on a planet.
Rumor (that is most likely fact): More than one intelligent species can exist on a planet, if they are made artificially or if they are brought to the planet from elsewhere
Rumor: in the tribal stage, you can command your creatures around RTS style, telling them where to go and what to do in mass.
Fact: There is no main storyline to Spore.
Fact: The player can blow up planets
Rumor: The player can blow up star systems
Rumor: The galaxy is run in real-time, which means suns and nebulae age and eventually go nova (Again, this is something W.W. mentioned, but did not confirm or deny)
Fact: The game will alter itself to your play style, IE. Aggressive races will find that the game will be more focused around combat, while players who explore a lot during the game will find an overabundance of interesting planets
Fact: Earth is the Kingdom of 'Who Gives a ****?'
I'll post more later when I think of more.

B..Blizzard..? You do realize Maxis is doing this game right..?
Yeah, I thought so, too... :dunno:
Either way, it'll turn out great, hopefully with awesome 3D graphics & animation, and even good sound. :sporerules:

What I meant was Maxis will make this game and it will kick ass but then Blizzard will make a game like it and it will be everything the original was supposed to be.

Blizzard doesn't make sims games, and I've been playing their games since warcraft I... they're busy with world of warcraft and starcraft ghost. Blizzard copying Maxis in a sims game? HAH!

not to be more off topic, but they're also working on starcraft 2 as well.

Where'd you hear that..? I'm one of their biggest fans and they havn't mentioned anything of the sort. You're thinking of starcraft ghost, the 1st person shooter.
K.Kraden

No, I'm thinking of Starcraft 2. Gaming Steve sat down with them and they mentioned it, he talked about it in one of his podcasts. It is several years from completion, but it is still in the works; it's merely taking a backseat to Ghost and to WoW at the moment.

Rumor: (Almost fact) The game will be released in Fall of '06
Fact: Once you get advanced enough you gain access to 'developer' editors, which are like the normal editors except with much more power, and no resource requirements (This might be false, but it has been mentioned so much by credible sources that it's almost 100% guaranteed)

Most likely later, you still have a ways to go to get the Genesis Device after a UFO.

Time for another update. It's been a while, hasn't it?
FACT: Religion and politics not only play a role in the game, they play a BIG role in the game. The level of customization for your culture and its behaviour, as well as the government, will be quite in-depth. according to Gaming steve, it is RIDICULOUSLY complex.
FACT/RUMOR (mostly fact): You will not be able to name individual creatures. Whether you will be able to name your species or not, is still unknown.
FACT: While you will be able to command your creatures in the earlier stages of the civilization epoch, you will lose this ability later during the city stages. Creatures will no longer be your units, replaced by vehicles and the like. The creatues you see in cities and such are non-controllable later in the city stages.
RUMOR: It is likely you will have access to civilian vehicles as well as military ones.
FACT: There will be domestication to some degree. Mounts are confirmed, and pets/slaves are also likely. It is also likely that beasts, plants, and animals will be able to used as some sort of resource.
FACT: clothing is confirmed.
FACT: There will be leaders, such as generals, head-of-states, religious leaders, etc.
FACT: If you accidentally kill your creature in the evolution stage, you gain control of another one, a la Sim Ant. Whether or not you have a limited number is unknown. Probably, it will depend on how populous your species is.

In recent lurking, I have found rumors:
RUMOR: Eyes may advantage or disadvantage you in the Evolution stage.
RUMOR: Colors may as well^.
RUMOR: Spikes, talons, etc. may make hunting easier.
RUMOR: Poison.
K.Kraden
01-26-2006, 07:59 PM
Actually, the whole spike/talon/claw/other dangerous pointy things will for a fact help your creature. We saw it first-hand in the GDC demo. Remember the little protozoan impaling things with its spike? And don't forget the willosaurus tearing those hoppers a new one with its clawed tail.

Two recent Facts from Gaming Steve's latest podcast:
-Multi-culture in Spore:
Varying from Creative to Strict, Friendly to Extreme, the multi-cultural diversity in Spore is expected to be enormous.
Relationship Between Different Groups:
Group's personalities/traits will have a serious effect on the ability to create an alliance or go on war. The more similarity between two groups, the easier their communications and alliance creation will be. Groups with a lot of differencies may have an alliance but it'd be harder for them to communicate between each other.
