Small Question: Naming Species?

Just wondering if we will be able to name our species, which I'm guessing that we sure will. It's just that I've never thought of it before. :shy: Anyone know, or is it just that obvious?

That also brings up if you can name your planet. (questions,questions...)


And it aslo makes you wonder if maturedy should be an essential for the game think of all those losers who name their planets or race something not worth my time mentioning.

But, any ways it would be nice to name your race, it would make it alot easier to find a race instead of going on description. :bouncy:

There's a topic on this board about inappropriate shapes for species. I think the names would pose a similar 'problem' (well, I don't mind, but...)

People would go around calling their race the Vagina People or something like that.

Bad names would be a lot easier to filter out than inappropriate shapes, because there are only so many bad words out there, but you can create a near infinite different inappropriate shapes for your creature.

It lies in the eyes of the viewer if they think it is inappropiate or not. A naked molerat for instance. What do you think people think when they see it?

I guess people can filter out names.. and that is what this little topic is about... so I think naming will be in the game :D

Good point... Well, I hope we will be able to name our species. Will the staff at Maxis -- or the "Spore headquarters," I don't know, wherever this is being created -- moderate the players' creations, worlds, and actions? I mean, the moderators might be able to notify players that their species have not been uploaded to the Internet due to any inappropriateness of the shape or name. I don't know.

I wish we could suggest things to the people at Maxis about Spore. :silly: Er, I hope so, even. It'd be nice. Then they could make a game that all the players will like and agree with, once they know what most everyone wants. But, anywho, back to names... :laughing2:

Also, I hope that we will be able to name countries, states, and towns. You know... To make this game as realistic as possible?

That brings up another interesting issue - will your creatures develop a distinct language? How will the computer know what sound your race is supposed to make?

Ahhh, and that also brings up the idea if the creature's very own vocal cords could be stretched or thickend, or any other organ. For example what if the air around you is 90% nitrogen and 1% oxygen and 8% carbon and 1% other gasses. The animal would have no diegestive track because nitrogen would not have to be converted to a usable material, because it would fill the air. All having major impacts on the shape and over all anatomy of the creature. In lamens terms, Good luck Will you gave a lot of work ahead.

Sorry, :shy: , yeah but I do hope you could name your own species, and if you make an empire and name it to and have a symbol to represent it. That would be cool an empire by 4 legged pig mokeys for the 4 legged pig monkeys.

Wait, wait... Sorry guys just thought of something that will burst the bubble, you see it is unlikely that we could name the planets because, think of the other charachter generated species... What if that person wanted to name the planet something other than what you desired. The only way Will could really implement this in the game is if on your game the only name that sticks is the one you type in yourself, and if that happened then it would totally wreck the idea of a name oriented planet locator thingy... Sooo, if you can disprove this in any way or form than please do, because I want to name my very own planet.

Uhm...i don't see a reason why you can't name a planet:


the only shared stuff are not complete planets, but buildings, other mosters, plants and more...but if you do have a total domination on the planet, it's yours and you can name it (if it's available in the game options)...see, it's not like World Of Warcraft, the "world" isn't shared by all users..even though content is, each one of the players will have his own world and own advancing rate..

But that also defeats the purpose of a planet finder thingy... because what if the name of the planet you are looking for is the owner of a bottom dewelling species, that has no control over the planet what-so-ever. You see, because any other way would defeat the system, and thats why he probably won't have it. :indifferent:
