I would like to spread the word on a program that I find useful. I love to have a customized desktop picture and it's often annoying to have icons everywhere. This is why I am recommending RocketDock (http://rocketdock.com/).
It is a customized dock station bar for the top or bottom of your screen in which you can put all of your icons on it, giving back your desktop space. I've had mine installed on my Vista machine for 4 months with no issues.
