View Full Version : [Troubleshooting] Strange re-occuring brown-black blot on creatures...

Even after uninstalling and reinstalling the CC, whenever I make a creature that goes over a certain mark in the complexity meter(about 3/4 full), when I go into the paint mode, even if i haven't selected any coat for it, it will cover a random amount of my creature in a brown to black blot, sometimes over the entire creature. Switching the base/coat/detail does not affeect it at all, except for where on my creature it puts the blot. It only appears in the paint/free mode, and does not appear if I make a simple creature. When searching the spore sites help, it mentioned something about problems with graphical corruption, and should lower the graphical standards to possbly fix this, but it still shows up on the lowest type. I haven't heard anything like this from anyone else, so any responses would be appreciated.

Try tweaking the settings and setting the graphics to low (Details, lighting, etc.). See if that helps.

yeah, I already tried that. I went back to the ea help site, and it actually does mention about seeing "dark spots" if you have one of two certain types of graphic cards. Anyone know how you can check what yours is?

Start > run > Dxdiag
Look under the display tab.

Based on http://uoem.com/spore/omnipedia/editor-guides-10/why-is-there-graphical-corruption-in-the-game-12/
Those are the two known cards with issues.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what display tab your refering to. And would you think this would still be a problem with the full version, or would that not make a difference?

Since the only real difference is the core assets, I don't see any major difference.
Display tab in DXDIAG.
Start > run > type in dxdiag. Press enter. Look under Display Tab, and under device. Or simply click Save All Information Button on the bottom and upload the text file.

Thanks for all your help. My graphics chip isn't either of the ones listed, but whatever. I'm sure I'll get rid of it eventually...
