sims 2 freezes when going into lots or creating a family

i have the regular sims 2 cd and windows vista. whenever i try to make a family or go into a lot, sims 2 freezes and i have to end the program. i really would love to know how to make it work properly. here's my computer information.

The problem is more than likely the chipset you have.
It can't handle all the strain you're placing on it .
You might try disabling Aero if you're using it while you play.
If this is a laptop then your options aren't any better.
