I'm surprised that no one has created a thread for Metal Gear related posts yet.

Not that i've anything useful to say about MG anyway.

LOL...just had to come in here just to make that last comment untrue...Not that I know anything about Metal Gear Solid but I am sure that it is an incredible time waster and that my children could better spend their time on schoolwork than on playing that game.... :p

You Phlianthropy dog you!

I agree tho, your children could be using their time better. Like studying, helping w/ the housework, fetching firewood, writing scripts, cooking for their dad before he gets home, giving their parents regular backrubs, bring them breakfast in bed on the weekends, and working part-time instead of playing games like MGS, watching a 10hr movie trilogy, using up all the online time talking to strangers, posting on forum after forum and so on.

Watch, we'll be the only two people to talk in this thread.

Correction: We'll be the only two ppl to have anything constructive to say here... unless more ppl join in, and I dont mean Book. :p

LOL Oink...Now I'm confused about one thing...where did you get all those Wonderful ideas to keep our children amused? I will have to definitely implement the breakfast in bed thingie asap! I also love the idea of putting them to work supporting us!! Sounds like a progressive idea...of course that would give them less time to talk to you but some sacrifices need to happen for the greater good!! :p

So evil Book...

I just got back from watching my brother play MGS. Not as fun as playing the game but it was the first time I've laid eyes on it for some time now (I know, forshame .)

Watching it reminds me of how much more fun it is than MGS2, to a degree. Dang that Raiden - he ruined it. :p

God... Darn... IT!!! Stop bashing Raiden already. I know you were just playing (I hope) but dang! Name some of the reasons here why he "ruined" the game. I'm still not convinced by the "HES VOS IZ SO WINEY!!!!11!11!!1LOL" and the "HE goT LoNG HAiRs!!!!" "arguements". I just re-played Substance yesterday and to be honest, it was the best experience I had in a long time. It's a fine game, because of its !gameplay!. Substances owns my socks, Raiden or no Raiden. If Snake moved like he did in MGS then I would have liked him more in MGS2. I'm sure my defense of Raiden will soon be struck down because of its incompetence but at least I tried.

So just to make it clear: I like Snake, and I like Raiden. I do both for different reasons. I could have been playing as Jar-Jar Binks for all I care and I still would have enjoyed the game. So to sum it all up, IMHO, MGS2: Substance (not SOL) > MGS. Just my opinions, feel free to state yours.

Oh! Lean out shots to the head w/ a Stinger also owns my pants. As does jumping guards while they're "reading", and blasting every last box, melon, potato and what not in the pantry while trying to fight off wave after wave of guards. MGS didnt have that now did it? :p

Sorry Book, post is too long already. I'm sure you could watch your children play it and get an idea of what it's all about. That is, when they're finished giving you a foot massage while vaccuuming the house and cleaning out the attic. :devious:

Good plan Oink..I will have to implement that idea this afternoon after school...After they finish cleaning out their pet cages, pruning the trees in the yard, washing all outside windows (upstairs and downstairs), washing and waxing all family cars, etc. Tomorrow...hmm, looking at that list, maybe next week...I will be able to comment intelligently on MGS..... :)

So that's why I havent been able to talk to your "Net-Time Waster" eh?

Anyway, MGS is about this: http://www.konamijpn.com/metal_news/index_e.html

^that is about the cruddiest looking branch-site for Konami, but most of what you need to know about MGS is there. There are literally at least 6 or 7 other sites that Konami has that also talks about MGS. I have NO idea why Konami is doing that (multiple sites for just one company) but I'm not here to find out. So just go and be enlightened. :D

PS: Scroll all the way down to see all of the MGS titles.

I've never really figured out Konami's reason for having so many Metal Gear sites... Just get one offical one and make it easier for the fans.
I finally found the Snake Eater trailer, it only took this long. Unfortunatly the file is huge for my slow connection so it'll take a while to download... :( Great screenshots. I wonder which console version they're from..
Any updates on when SE will be released? I've heard so many different dates I don't know which to believe.
From all the screens I've seen on it it looks like it's going to be the best. Wonder if the crocodiles will eat Snake if they get the chance?
Yay! :D

You're... kidding right? You could have asked anyone for the trailers' links. www.gametrailers.com for all your MGS or non-MGS trailer needs. No screenshots tho.

Release date for SE eh? I havent heard of a set date as of now, but in one of the trailers it's said to be "on your table 2004". *rolls eyes* Well gee, how helpful.

Oh no no no, SE is strictly for the PS2. The controls were made for the PS2 controller. At least they're saying that it's only for the PS2.

Konami doesnt just have a lot of sites for MGS, it has them for ALL its games, and adding to them are cooperate sites, a site for Konami Hawaii if i remember correctly and a coupla others. Unbelievable. Not only are there so many sites, it's a pain to find them too. I once spent a good half an hr just looking for the first SE trailer and when i got there, i found out it wasnt even out yet. Navigation is impossbile in some of Konami's sites. Do a search yourself, see how many redundant sites you can find.

Good. About time PS2 has some good exclusive games, I was starting to contemplate buying a Nintendo console again. Horrors.

After you see TTS trailer you might rethink that. ;)

SolidSnake_19
10-08-2003, 06:21 PM
Hrm... I did see The Twin Snakes trailer. It looks good and everything... but I priced out how much a GCN would cost, just buying the basics and two games, it would come to $300 give or take about $15. :( I think I'll just save up for Nintendo's next-gen when it comes out in a couple of years. No point in buying it when it's almost obsolete. I'm just hoping that they'll be smart enough to add the backwards capability that the PS2 has to the next system.

OinkUsed2BABunny
10-08-2003, 09:15 PM
Thinking wishfully now, arent we?

I dunno if you're talking about Canadian dollars, or if thats in American dollars but things over there are just a bit more expensive or some other reason, but a GC only costs $99 now, and you get one free game too. I guess there are a few ways of looking at it:
A) You've already played the first MGS inside and out, why buy a whole new system and game just to play the same game, only w/ graphical enhancements right?

or

B) Judging from what I've seen in the TTS trailer, TTS warrants a purchase of the console, all because it's simply MGS, and no other reason. And Nintendo's next-gen system wouldnt be coming out until god-knows-when, so why wait? Even if it's coming out tomorrow, would you still wanna wait for it to drop in price too, especially since you dont know if it'll be backwards compatible too?

What do you mean "almost obsolete"? It IS nearly past its prime but it's nowhere near obsoletion. If anything the PS2 is nearing its deathbed. Are you sure you're not just harboring some grudge against Nintendo and its systems? And by the way, what other game are you gonna get? I didnt know TTS came in halves :p

I would buy the GC when TTS cames out, since I've already had my eyes on a coupla others games exclusive to the GC. TTS is just the final straw. But the ol' monetary restrictions are still in place, especially since I lost my money! But yeah, I think this is enough of a post for now.

LOL Oink...Just wanted to tell you that the thread isn't dead...yet! lol To be honest, I've tried to watch the kids play MGS and it gives me the same headache that MSG (the food additive, that is!!)does!! I'm afraid that I like the games like Zelda (yes, I know that it is an old game) but find that I like the solving of a puzzle to blowing enemies away like in the Bond games...I know that it is make-believe but have a problem with some of the violence in some games....I won't even let the kids buy Mortal Kombat. (I let them rent it to check it out but wasn't impressed...won't even let them do that with Vice City although I'm not naive enough to think they have never seen or played it elsewhere)...So, tell me I'm unfair, etc. but us oldies have problems with some of the stuff that is out there because I feel it does affect a person whether they realize it or not... Your thoughts?

As for the Metal Gear topic... Whatever happened to Meryl? They never explained what happened to her after MGS... Did she just go her own way after all that happened or what?
I'm guessing that Snake got annoyed with her. He already gave off that impression after Psycho Mantis. Perhaps he took her one comment too seriously since she was slowing him down and actually killed her. ;)

Hint for Book: At least try not to bad-mouth the thread's topic if you're gonna talk about it, like you did the mighty Cheese Cult.

Snake: Ever EVER checked out the many other options besides New Game and Load Game? Meryl is talked about in Snake Tales "Confidential Legacy" or something. Havent played in a long time. I'm sure she's mentioned once or twice in game and in the "before stories" too. Beat the you-know-who to the console and play Substance to its fullest. ;)

*Evil laugh* So you're the person I told about my RCT death trap sadisticness. :p I can't help it, it's just fun. :D

I think Wolf wanted to frisk Snake. o_O

Two words: Island of Never-Ending Torment. All ya gotta do is create a 3 tile by 3 tile island in the middle of a lake and put all of the Entrances and Exits to rides on the edges of it. Then connect the Park Entrance to the island and voila! You've got yourself a bunch of retards who doesnt know how to get out, and will spend all of their money on rides they dont even like! Best if coupled by concession stands and bathrooms that charges them double digit prices. ;)

"I wish I had that." :p

Hehehe. I done that once.

Poor Johnny. He runs into problems in both Metal Gear games. Tisk, tisk. He really needs to get a new job.

OinkUsed2BABunny

There's an entire message board dedicated to Johnny Sazaki and his *ahen* "problems". It even has a thread where posters would join in and make up a story about how Johnny deals with his problems has he lives out his daily life. It soon developed into him trying to sought medical treatment for his "problems" and trying to pick chicks up at the same time. As you can probably imagine, hilarity ensues. :D

Yep, they're aaaalll over-compensating for something. I dunno what Olga and Helena's deals were, and dont even get me started on the Bi-sexual blood-sucking Romanian freak. :p

Worst character... ever. By far he and Fortune the most annoying out of the bunch on MGS2. How many times can one person 'die'? and why won't Fortune stop her whinning? :dead:

Too much talking and cinema scenes, not enough action.

Dont pretend the whole Ocelot commandeering Ray (Tanker, not that OTHER 'Oooh, come and lets all reveal our life stories while we try to put a cap in each other butts.' one at the end) sequence didnt get a rise outta you. :p Not to mention the one where Snake saved Raiden from a certain vampire-wannaba whose name shall not be uttered. Come to think of it, most of the good to superb CG sequences either stars Snake alone or has him in it. *sigh* Raiden you disappointment you!

ADDED: And what about the intro? I'm talking about the one that's just a bunch of clips from OTHER CG's, but it's still the best movie by far, mainly because of the aforementioned fact. The Snake bridge jump is great too, but where the hell is the action?

SolidSnake_19
11-17-2003, 12:00 PM
That end scene with Ocelot explaining everything was too long and didn't make any sense (well it did, it just sucked.) My brothers and I were all bored with that part, couldn't Kojima come up with anything better than that?

The intro to the game (tanker and the title) were good. It's just the rest of the game that wasn't. It was basically Metal Gear Solid for PS1 all over again - just set in a different, and more boring, location.

There we no wolves to attack you, no drone guns by the hundred, very little originality and defusing bombs which isn't really a Metal Gear thing.

With Snake Eater coming out I hope that they actually go back to the more MG style and no defusing bombs most of the time.
Will you be able to eat anything you come across that's alive e.g the attack dogs and crocodiles?

OinkUsed2BABunny
11-18-2003, 06:31 PM
You'll be able to eat penguins, and set bear traps for guards, and then eat them too. It'll be like a buffet in the jungle. Sweet, huh?

SolidSnake_19
11-18-2003, 07:58 PM
Somehow I doubt that...:p

It would be nice if they allowed you to eat anything you came across - including guards.

What I wonder is will the crocodiles be able to kill Snake in one shot or will you have to struggle to get away from them... and will the snakes you eat be dangerous to try and get? E.g. poisonous or constrictors. :p

Their answer for a release date stinks - 2004 isn't good enough.

Must flood them with emails saying, "Release MGS3 now!!1!?!"

More like "Will all the crocodiles become Snake's biznitches?" He'll most likely stick to guard meat or penguins. He'll probably eat the occasional gorilla and pony too. Lotsa ponies to be had in the ol' jungle. Yep. The ol' jungle. Dont forget the infamous Cell Diet: SPAM and ketchup. Mmmm, yum.

SolidSnake_19

Imagine Snake in a Pooh costume that's ten sizes too small for him, crouched over a honey comb, stuffing his face with both hands, and then a guard happens to walk in on him. Then he does that infamous cat-eyes thing, and then scampers off into the night. Instant classic I tells ya.

Anyways. Now that Snake Eater has finally been released I'd have to say it's pretty much what I thought it would be... A great story, graphics that are pleasing to the eyes and plenty to do.

Not only does one of the best villians in VG history come back (or begin) in this one - but it also kind of shows how he starts out. For those who may not know, I'm talking about Revolver Ocelot.
He may not be as cool as in Metal Gear Solid but he's still pretty neat in my books for being "green".

If you haven't yet played it I would recommend giving it a shot (if you have a PS2). Very fun game.

Anyways, you know they're planning on releasing a MGS movie right? If only they'd cast Samuel L. Jackson as Snake...

Sam Jackson as Solid Snake: "ENGLISH MUTHA..."

Well, you know how the rest goes. ;)

I was talking about Ocelot. He's cool in MGS... But in SE he's still green when it comes to weaponry.

And yes, Samuel L. Jackson would absolutely rock as Solid Snake. ;)

OinkUsed2BABunny
03-22-2005, 03:06 PM
Ohhhh, green! I get it now.

It'd also be nice for Mr. Wick from Drew Carey to play as Liquid, and Mimi as Metal Gear.

SolidSnake_19
03-28-2005, 12:36 PM
... and Pierce Brosnan could play the DARPA Chief, while Martha Stewart is Mai Ling and and Hugh Grant is the Colonel.
I'd pay, like, so much to be able to watch that in theaters. (seriously)

I like that thing Ocelot does with his hands when he's talking. It makes him look a little weird, so now I do that to people occasionally... They don't get it so they look at me like, "what the heck?"

I'm going to resurrect a dead thread, but, what do you all think of Metal Gear Solid 4? In all honest opinion, I think Solid Snake might die. I have a few reasons to back this up. If you've watched the MGS4 Teaser, an artillery shell blows up the wall Snake hides behind, with the caption, "No where to hide", I think it means not only literally, but also, No where to hide from Death for Snake. Think about it, His dangerous line of work, his aging, and Foxdie. Also, Hideo Kojima said that Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater was the End of the trilogy....which means MGS4 obviously takes a huge turn.

Also, for any interested parties, check out the Metal Gear Solid 3 Substienence Trailer at www.gametrailers.com (http://www.gametrailers.com), its hilarious, but the gameplay looks awesome too.

SolidSnake_19
08-19-2005, 05:20 PM
Well, I actually haven't been able to find a whole lot of information about MGS4 in any magazines so I'm not too sure about a lot of it. The whole "No where to hide" idea does have me intrigued but it is hard to understand how that concept would work in reality, without getting bothersome.

The Solid Snake dying idea does make me wonder the possibility. I completely expected Snake to die in Sons of Liberty when Kojima said it was the last installment. So, in a way, I'd be somewhat expecting him to actually die in 4. It'll be sad to see him go when/if he finally does succumb to the FoxDie or is picked off by a hail of gunfire as one does get to be quite attached to well-written game characters over several years.

I haven't seen any of the Subsidence trailers yet (other than the ones X-Play has broadcast)... so I may have to check out gametrailers to see what new videos they have added.

To be honest, I'm not that impressed with the PS3's capabilites. Oh, sure, anyone would be stunned by how realistic everything looks, but you'd be able to find similar looking games on the PS2 as well. Just play some SH3 and 4 and you'll see what I mean.

And didn't I say they would most definitely come out with a Substance type expansion for MGS3, Gurt? :P Not that I would have wasted too much money since MGS3 is already $19,99 here brand new.

As for whether or not Snake will die in MGS4, I don't really care that much. Sure, if you'd been with him since MG1, you're going to shed some tears of course, but I won't. He's a nice protagonist to play as, perfect soldier and all, but he's been played out for a while now. I never had any beef with Raiden's character since I skipped the hell through all of the convos, and he's actually more energetic and has more potential than ol' Snakey there. I'd rather they some how finish off Olga's child's story arc. Just don't go the way of Onimusha 4 and completely derail the traditions and I won't have to letter bomb Kojima Productions.

You probably had mentioned something about a possible MGS3 Substance version.. but I'm sure between the time of our conversation on that and the actual release of the game I had forgotten (which I did or else I wouldn't have bought the first version).

If they do kill of Snake I could see being a little upset in a way... A little because I've grown to like the character and a lot because Raiden would then take the reigns.
I guess I just don't want Raiden to take over as, if one watches all of the CGI in SOL, they tend to make him seem really whiney and bothersome.... But that could just be my delightfully-cute ignorance towards him.
