Creature's not showing up on the creator for any stage

i'm playing spore on my macbook, it meets all the requirements, but for some reason the creatures dont show up aside from their spines in the creator

Yeah, I just loaded Spore up for the first time a 1/2 hour ago. The same thing happened to me, it's just a black box where the creature should be, and if you roll the mouse over, you see a spine. The cell stage's movements were fluid, but once I moved onto the Creature stage, the movements became painstakingly choppy. I'm beyond pissed off and I feel raped. You would think that a game that is 8 years in the making would be flawless and run seamlessly on ANY computer. I read somewhere else that the next update for OS 10.5 is going to include some new video components...hopefully that will fix it.
