Any suggestions about Spore + Macbooks?

This game runs really slow on my macbook, even though I meet all the minimum requirements, and there is just a black box where the creature should be in the editor.

So I even tried to put it on my PC, but it won't even read the disc.

Any suggestions on both of these issues anyone? By the way, I'm not much of a gamer, but I've waited for Spore to come out for over a year now. Please try and use layman terms, thanks!

I forgot to mention...

I tried to give the game one more chance last night, and something else weird happened. In the "Creature Stage," the background graphics are just colored lines in some areas, and every few minutes, bright colors will just flash on the screen. And, a few times, the screen went completely black, but the audio was still playing fine.
