Spore. downloaded fine but game wont run

I have the right video card (updated, too). and enough memory and all requirements. But after i click the icon for the game to start, everything goes black then vista tell me Spore has stopped working.

I don't know if this could be related, but my boyfriend tried to use the torrented copy on my computer before i went out and bought it. So is this going to keep me from installing it for real?
