I finally got my first gaming console, a gamecube, after wanting to play Animal Crossing again for over a year now. I have given in and crossed over to the dark side of console gaming experience after ONLY playing PC games, and mostly just the Sims at that! :p

Sooo... seeing as how Animal Crossing is a game where you do things like socialize with your neighbors and decorate your house... does anyone else here play it? :D ;)

Nope, because I'm playing another game: The Waiting Game, and it seems like I wont be done with that until the GC comes out with more quality games and/or lower its price. So please, for my sake, post ALL you could about AC.

Please!?

Nope, sorry. I don't play Animal Crossing other than the ocassional one at a Toys 'R' Us store. I contemplated buying a GCN just for it but decided that wouldn't be the best financial decision.

When I manage to play it somewhere it's a really fun game. I like how the seasons change and there are many different things to keep one interested. :)

Right now in the game I've had fun watching the season change from fall to winter, the ground color and leaf colors change a little every day, and it's started SNOWING and I love that! What's funny is I saw in the little snippets of game they show at startup that they have fruit on the trees year-round, I can harvest my cherries in the snow, haha! :p

Thanksgiving was funny, a character who was a Turkey was invited from out of town by our town Mayor... to be the main "guest" at our feast... and there was a big empty platter on a table with a knife and fork next to it being guarded by one of the town animals. I got to sneak and steal the knife and fork and bring them to the turkey for rewards! :p It's a very cute game.... I need to tear myself away from final fantasy a couple of times a week to play it! :)

I bought Zoo Tycoon and gave it to my granddaughters and had to buy them an expansion pack later. Michaela's favourite trick is to let animals out and let them eat the humans.

Hahahaha! I've played Zoo Tycoon too! Someone made a download for a Pikachu for an animal... that was cute... but very out of place with the other creatures... I heard that the penguins in Zoo Tycoon can attack any other animal in the zoo and win! :o

Yes... I made the silly mistake of giving into temptation and going back in time one year to see what happened on your birthday... I wanted to see if I should change the birthday of my second character to a different date or if it would let two characters both get all the birthday features. It both of my characters got birthday cakes, but only one of them had a neighbor animal give them a present, so now I plan to change my second character's birthday to my grandmother's birthday instead of mine. I got back to the real date and my WHOLE TOWN was COVERED COMPLETELY in WEEDS! :o Every single bit of ground that I didn't already have stuff like fruit and furniture and paper laying around on had a WEED and it took me over an HOUR real time walking around and pulling each weed! :o So I'll never do THAT big a leap time travel again! But I will go back a little this week to catch myself up from the last day I was playing it. :D

Now that Christmas has died down in real life I'm thinking of spending the rest of today catching up on Animal Crossing... time traveling back to Thanksgiving and playing through New Years just to get caught up with time in the game!! :p

Of course, I won't play games the rest of the day till I've finished cleaning the HOUSE first... it'll be my motivation! :bunny:

FinalFantasy4ever
12-30-2003, 08:29 PM
hehe I HAD to play on Thanksgiving. I got all the harvest furniture and got a house rating of 'round....125,000.
Course I missed Jingle on Christmas Eve between 8pm-midnight:( and I wanna see the fireworks New Years Eve this time. Last year my borther took the game with him so I couldnt lol

Well, since we're all lamenting lost opportunities, I might as well join in with an irrelevant rant of my own too.

Ya see, I was planning on upgrading my rig, buying FFXI, installing it, downloading the monstrous patch and actually be in time to celebrate Christmas, Final Fantasy style, right? It didnt go thru, just like most other things in my life. So I ended up being the outsider watchng from... the outside again. It looked danged fine this year too. The festivities in game actually rivals some of those in the real world, but I missed it, so I'm now here venting about it.

The End.

Danged fine story writer I am too. :p

FaeLuna

Keep up the story writing Oink! :D

Well I'm slowly catching up towards Christmas in Animal Crossing land... I have my christmas trees up in the homes of both my characters in town, and I'm through the first week of December and surprised the ground STILL isn't covered in snow? :o But at least it seems the neighbor animals have stopped harassing me about putting up heaters too early... and the fishing tourney is over.... :p

This question has been bugging me for a while now, so I'm gonna ask it once and for all: Is there an end to AC like in Harvest Moon, or is this game eternal? I hate games that end after only 50 hours or so. I am in dire need of a game like SC and The Sims that I can lose myself completely in for as long as I like.

FinalFantasy4ever
01-01-2004, 05:18 PM
AC goes by real life time!

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-01-2004, 08:30 PM
... I knew that. The question's still unanswered though. Has anybody played AC long enough to see the ending, if there actually is one?

FinalFantasy4ever
01-02-2004, 01:34 PM
Terchnically there is NOT an ending. You can complete paying off the loan at which case you have a statue but it keeps going on and on. I think it was that it had a 50 year span.

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-02-2004, 04:43 PM
Ya know what? That just brought the biggest silly grin to my face. I can not take games that end after only a week or so real time. Especially a GOD of a game such as AC.

On a completely irrelevant note; how could I have forgotten about Metal Gear Soild: The Twin Snakes coming out for the GC this year!? There's more than enough reasons for me to wanna get the GC now.

Long Live the Dreamcast by the way! I only hope my GC purchase doesnt turn out to be like my DC one, reguardless of however fond of it I still am.

Since I've been doing the time travel cheat, I checked it out... and you can go back in time to play though the late 90s and then into the future till the year 2030. :D So you can play through over 30 years!! It seems once you have a raffle at the end of the month that raffle is over forever, but other than that it seems you could just go back in time and play the same year over and over if you wanted to. :D Is that close enough to an eternal game for you? ;)

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-03-2004, 05:18 PM
So you mean this game Does have a set lifespan, but it can easily be bypassed by going back in time and playing the same time period over and over again? Alright, I guess I'll take whatever I can get. I didnt expect the game to be eternal anyways, because most games arent unless they get constant updates and patches.

So now I have yet more questions. What about the year, month, week, day, holiday, season specific events? I mean once you're thru playing most of them there's not many reasons for you to go back and repeat them over and over again right? If the events are non-repeatable or are just not worth playing over again, then there's always the mundane daily tasks to complete to elongate the game correct? Also, how many different sets of dialogues do the NPC's have? That means have you ever heard an NPC saying something that he's already said before, and have you ever seen an NPC do something he's already done before?

That's it for questions now I guess. There's bound to be more to come so please bear with me here. :)

FaeLuna
01-03-2004, 05:52 PM
Let's see... there are events that are date specific, like the raffle on the last day of each month, and the holidays, and Sow Joan selling her turnips every Sunday so you can play the stalk market, and KK Slider playing his guitar at the train station Saturday nights... but there are also a lot of other little random events: a seagull named Gulliver washes up on the beach every now and then, not really once a week but several times a month; if you take the train to another town you might see a cat with no face, and get to draw her face, and then she shows up in your town randomly wandering around with the face you drew; a fashion designer shows up several times a month and so does a walrus you get rare wallpaper from, and a camel you get rare carpets from, and a fortune telling cat.

For dialogue, I hear the characters say the same things a lot, but that's partly because I chat with them like mad because often they'll give me stuff or trade with me. What they say changes with the seasons, the weather, and what visitor might be about to visit your town. November, for instance, there is a Fishing Tourney, and all through the month the animals talk a lot about fishing tips, and the tourney. Now that I'm playing through December there's no more talk about the fishing tourney. :D Now they've gone on to talking about making snowmen, and how great igloos are, and bundle up so you don't catch cold, and there's some mysterious visitor coming on the 24th! :)

With daily stuff like running all over town digging up fossils and looking for the glowing spot to dig up money, and the random rock that gives you money when you hit it, and checking the dump and police station for items I can take, and checking your mail etc. just that keeps you pretty busy if you try to do it all. Then there is fishing, bug catching, planting and harvesting fruit trees, going around shaking trees in case money falls out... fleeing from the bees when a hornet's nest falls out instead.... It's an exciting little life if you like that sort of thing! Plus there's all the rearranging furniture and redecorating your house.... I don't think I've managed to do ALL of "everything" in one day yet!

FinalFantasy4ever
01-03-2004, 06:47 PM
I can think of one good reason of time traveling to holidays that you have already witnessed hehe. If you were to go back to see Jingle over and over again and collect the stuff he gives yiu, you can make a TON of bells. thats always helpful.
I never visit Joan anymore. Ever since I obtained the turnip code I have had no reason to actually BUY the turnips hehe.
Which do you prefer Fae, fishing or bug catching?
I prefer fishing myself.

FaeLuna
01-04-2004, 11:26 AM
Yeah, I have a huge weakness for the fishing... I'll run back and forth at my fishing spots for the fish "shadows" to come back so I can just keep catching them around the same spot instead of wandering up and down the beach. I started throwing back all the sea bass and just keeping the 3,000 and 5,000 bell fish to sell to Nook and when I did that for my little "fishing trips" I would sell them all at around 30,000-50,000 bells per trip back to Nooks. I LIKE that! ;)

I've never tried the turnip code, I haven't been really playing the stalk market anyway after I bought the first batch, forgot, time traveled back... and they all spoiled. :p I DO plant 30,000 bell bags in the shiny spots I dig up when they're in a good place for the tree to grow, not too close to other stuff... ;) I learned the hard way not to plant the money bag when the spot was too close to the cliff, beach, signpost, etc. :p

FinalFantasy4ever
01-04-2004, 02:42 PM
hehe i cant do the money some1 else here might steal it. as for the turnips....i talk to nook see how much they worth to decide if its worth the code. if he's buying for over 100 bells per turnip then it is very good since you get 100 turnips from code hehe

That sounds like a lot of fun, but aLL of that happens in real life time right? No more taking 2 hours hours in-game just to walk from one end of the town to the other I hope.

And uh, Fae? Isnt looking for items you can "take" at the dump and the police station, digging up holes wherever you see fit (which reminds me of a very funny thing you can do in SW:G, but that's another game and another story), shaking down trees, drawing faces on faceless (creepy!) cats, finding washed up seagulls and so on called lunatic vagrancy? :p

FinalFantasy4ever
01-05-2004, 01:37 PM
lol oink. And yes you do it all in real life time. I spend at least half hour playing the game just cause...I can run through the whole town in maybe....5 minutes if I'm running.

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-06-2004, 06:36 PM
Hmmm, sounds like a very small town. Well in that case, how many houses and streets are there in your town? Does it grow as the years go on, and is it affected in a grand way by player interaction? How exactly (gimme details) does travelling to another town, be it on the same memory card or another one, work?

FinalFantasy4ever
01-10-2004, 12:50 PM
there techinacally arent streets. there are 4 houses/saves for you to use. There can be up to 15 other houses and the neighbors move in and out. It starts off with i dunno maybe 5 neighbors and as time goes on more come. If you visit a town a person form your town may move there and/or one form the other town myay move to your town. In order to travel to another town, You must ahve another memory card. It does not have to have its own town on it but it can. There only has to be enough room for "Traveling Data"

Gotmilk1313
01-10-2004, 09:54 PM
Where do you get turnips?
Does anyone Know??

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-13-2004, 05:42 PM
You have to find this lady animal on weekends only, and you can't just ask the cops where she is going to be either; you have to go look for her yourself. I don't remember the name so maybe the other posters can help you with that.

You need another memory card to travel? o_O I thought you can have more than one town on a memory card and that you can travel between them... Just how many towns does a normal (8mb is it?) memory card allow? So basically what I'm asking is: "Is it possible to travel when you have access to only one memory card?"

FaeLuna
01-14-2004, 01:21 PM
You buy turnips from Sow Joan, she shows up every Sunday to sell her turnips, and then you wait and sell the back to Tom Nook hoping the prices has gone UP and you make money instead of losing money. :)

The game will only let you save ONE town per memory card, so no, it's not possible to travel to another town if you only have one memory card. :( That's the situation I'm in right now, I want to save for another memory card! :D

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-15-2004, 07:17 PM
Oooh, ok then. How big is that AC memory card? It's a regular 8mb(?) mem card right? I heard there's a bigger one, how many mbs is that one and how much do both of them cost?

FinalFantasy4ever
01-16-2004, 09:48 AM
the ac memory card is the small one. i never been by mb. the larger one holds like....alot more lol so you can have something OTHER than a town on it. actually you could prolly have ALOT more then the town. lol. We have 2 big memory cards and the ac's little one ^.^

FaeLuna
01-16-2004, 04:42 PM
Maybe I'll try making a town on the bigger memory card we got to save other games on then... but I still couldn't make multiple towns on the one big card. :P I think that's what he was hoping was possible, I know I was hoping that at first!!

FinalFantasy4ever
01-19-2004, 06:53 AM
hehe i wish you could but hey since you can't thats y i bought a big memory card and also used my brothers. cept now he wont let us travel since we made one of his favoritve grumpy mean characters move to one of our other towns lol

FaeLuna
01-19-2004, 11:47 AM
I'm corrupting my sister in law into playing Animal Crossing with me RIGHT THIS MINUTE!! haha... But I still haven't made a second town on my bigger memory card we got for saving other game data on.

OinkUsed2BABunny
01-19-2004, 04:41 PM
A town takes up the whole AC memory card huh? Makes sense since Nintendo would be supplying free memory cards otherwise.

FaeLuna
01-19-2004, 07:19 PM
One of my friends freaked out when I told her she could have as many Animal Crossing towns as she had Memory Cards... so now she's got a bunch of memory cards JUST for Animal Crossing towns! I don't know how many towns she has by now.... :P

FaeLuna

02-10-2004, 03:59 PM
My gaming issue of the month includes me trying to d/l a 1gig+ game file on a 56k that goes at 5kps... over and over and over again. The best part of it is that I cant even log in. I'm going to go hang myself now.

Oh dear! Poor Oink!! :o What game is this for?!?! I hope you can get it to work out somehow!!

My friend in town who also owns Animal Crossing came over last week with her gameboy advance so I finally got to see what the Island is like. :D We're planning another day this week for "Animal Crossing Maaaaadness!" :p I'm still running behind in my little town where I went back in time to play through Christmas and my birthday. But the town my friend let me borrow from her is the right date, if not the right time of day! :p

Today we went to the game stores and I'm wondering about getting the new Harvest Moon game that's coming out on Gamecube soon. Anyone have advice about that? :)

FinalFantasy4ever

Oh and btw, I have Animal Crossing as well and I have gone back and forth in time so much I dont even know who is in my town anymore lol. But I played the other day for the first time in about 2 months and I had to find the ghost in town at night to get rid of all the weeds growing in my town. Wonder if they will come out with an Animal Crossing 2? *ponders*

I was sad about Animal Crossing 2 not working out, but I just got Harvest Moon Wonderful Life so I've been playing that like mad lately! My poor Animal Crossing town got covered in weeds! :o I'm still not caught up to the current date... ever... :P At least I'm playing in March in my game now though.
