View Full Version : What TV shows do you like?

I was wondering what TV shows everyone here liked, and also if you ever tried to do a skin or object related to one of those tv shows, or if you'd LIKE to make, or get ahold of, items/skins related to that show. :) I hope that made sense. I'll do my own answer next to try and make this post a LITTLE less confusing. ;)

I like: Star Trek (all), Buffy, X-Files, Highlander, Brimstone, Prey, Magnum P.I., Due South, Northern Exposure, Farscape, The Young Riders, Silk Stalkings (ONLY the FIRST and LAST couples)... maybe that's it for now.
My FAVORITE is Due South, it has a Mountie, a deaf wolf, and an American cop. As I don't think anyone has made anything to go with that show, I would LOVE to find a mesh to let me have a mountie with his hat, and I might try to make his wolf once I get ahold of Unleashed. :) I would be looking for skins and objects that would go with any of these shows. So if you happen to see them.... :D

Oh yeah!! and Invisible Man!!! I LOVE that show too!! How could I forget??!! I'm watching Prey right now and it has the same actor!! ~whacks herself in the head~

Some of those actually gets over here as well.. Star Trek for instance, Buffy, Highlander, Brimstone, Magnum PI.
Star Trek and Magnum is pure nostalgy for me as I saw it when it came,, most of it anyway.
Now they're sending V again.. Also 7 days (called that in swedish).. timetravellingserie...
V is my favvo right now as the others not on for the moment
i really like all Star Treks, except for Deep Space 9. the first series is my favorite. Due South is awesome too, but i dont get it anymore, been a few years since i saw it. I think StarGate is my favorite show. dont really need/want any skins for them tho, i dont have thesims installed anymore...waiting for deluxe
FaeLuna
09-21-2002, 01:33 PM
I still haven't gotten to see V, my husband said it's great and he loved it and that I MUST see it if we ever get the chance. :) Magnum is very nostalgic for me too, though we didn't have a tv at the time it came out. We lived in Hawaii on Oahu in early 80s for 2 1/2 years when I was a kid so I have fun going "look, they're supposed to be driving to the airport but they're going the WRONG WAY on the highway!!" :P
FaeLuna
09-21-2002, 01:35 PM
oh WOW someone else likes Due South??!!!! :) :) :) !!!!!!! I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who liked it!! :P I hope they come out with it on dvd someday, I'd buy the whole series if I could!
i'd but the all of the series of the first Star Trek, prolly rent Due South to make sure i liked it.
FaeLuna
09-21-2002, 01:49 PM
I taped ALMOST every episode of Due South off the tv while it was running a few years back, but I MISSED taping the LAST episode!! I was SO upset!
It's the only tv show I ever tried to tape too. :)

09-21-2002, 01:49 PM
Heh, I sorta liked DS9, but it seemed outta place. Voyager, now that's a different story. Loved every episode :)...except the series finale one. I loved that one even more...
but they canceled the series...I hope they make a movie.
FaeLuna
09-21-2002, 01:51 PM
I didn't get to see any more Voyager episodes after Seven of Nine showed up on the series because our cable service got rid of the channel it was on and replaced it with another channel!!!
Helén
09-21-2002, 02:24 PM
But there are quite a few Star Trek movies done. Forogt Stargate series.. it came here too. Due South??? never heard off. If it's here it got a totally diff. name.
Stargate's cool to. I like SF a lot as fantasy. Goes for both movies and books
Latest favvos on movie: LOTR of course and the Star Wars. Love Jar Jar Binks!!! For the rest of Star Wars.. Harrison Ford!! Yum!!! *lol*

Oh goodness, I didn't even LIST all the shows I like on cartoon network!! :P I LOVE anime!!! Except for some reason I can't get into Dragon Ball Z now matter HOW much I try to approach it with an open mind and HOW many episodes I watch... I DID get to see an episode of the original Dragon Ball though and found THAT actually a bit entertaining.... Anyway yeah, I would LOVE to have anime sims someday!! I need to learn now to make meshes... oversized heads with BIG eyes.... sigh.

Due South was a Canadian made show... love the characters. One of those action/mystery type shows where they run around having adventures helping people in trouble etc. I loved the music too, most of it was Sarah McLaughlin (spelling?) from before they'd heard of her in the US.

*stomps her foot*
FaeLuna
10-16-2002, 10:25 AM
Who's Line Is It Anyway is a show where actors play sort of acting practice games, like little skits, where they make stuff up. One that I like is the 3 headed opera singer, 3 actors stand together and they have to make up a song about a topic that the audience chooses... but each actor only gets to sing ONE word of the song at a time!! There is another part I like where one actor gets to play the host of a party, and 3 actors are the party guests, and the host doesn't know what they are, and the guests get stuff like "guy who keeps falling asleep" or "Neanderthal Man Thawing out of the Ice" or "Nervous Bird making his Nest" so the guests run around acting all weird and saying weird stuff to reveal their character without coming out and saying what they are, and at the end the host has to guess what her guests are!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Did it show in the U.S.A.? It seemed to me to be essentially British humour, but I could be wrong.
Foyles War (another Brit thing) is running at present and is very good.
I thoroughly enjoyed Earth: Final Conflict when the Taelons were about. Has anyone any idea where I can read the book? Perhaps there wasn't a book?

We have Sky (at present). Some of our channels come from the States, such as some of the News programmes. Nina, I am surprised that you can't get BBC in Sweden. Can you get any English channels? Your English is very good indeed - you must have had an opportunity to practise?
We don't get anything from other countries here except "Cartoon Network" has heavily-edited anime, nothing else unless you want to pay for the extra channels (which are really expensive).
PhilipTarbuck
11-13-2002, 02:17 PM
But you can get English books from Amazon or some other web bookseller. I am sorry that you can't get more tv channels. I don't suppose we can get anything else but English, but, then, I speak only English.
Actually, we do get one Spanish channel.

It depends where you live and what provider of cabelchannels you have. I can't afford my own parabolantenna and my provider doesn't give us BBC. I have Skynews, but that's about it. There are other channels sending from UK and eaurope as well I have, MTV, Disvovery Europe, uhm and some other. *sighes* Nothing to do about. I don't look much at TV anyway nowadays. English is mandatory in Swedish schools from the 4th grade and all the way up. I lived in Denmark a couple of years and had many international contacts I had to make. Was in Florida 2 months 1982. So, yes I have had some practice and still. I have big grammar faults now and then and suddenly I notice I don't know the words any longer. But I relearn here. :classic:

We have to pay for British television (B.B.C.) whether we watch it or not. That really annoys me. Why can't they find their own money instead of taking it from people who can't afford it anyway. Oh - I have just thought - I am not sure whether it is 70 or 75 that you get that service for nothing. If it is the first, then I am nearly due to get it.
Bookworm42
03-18-2003, 01:55 PM
Well, we have that dubious priviledge in Canada too! The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. is famous for it's left-wing propaganda, etc. so most of the Canadians I know rarely watch even though we have to pay for it. :p
On the topic though, I like Friends, Seinfeld and all the forensic science shows on real-life cases plus Ancient History Tuesdays (yah!) :D Stop smirking everyone....I am NOT a Nerd!

I suppose that they are tv shows. I like revelations, which is a half-hour programme about canals and the industrial revolution. I like programmes about 'building big', ie about the construction of dams, bridges, tunnels, etc. etc.m And history programmes. And life is too short.
PhilipTarbuck
03-31-2003, 08:18 AM
Here the B.B.C. has some very good programmes indeed, so, I suppose, I shouldn't be too upset at having to pay for it. But it annoys me a bit because we don't have to pay for anything else - they are funded by their advertising revenue. The advertising breaks is when it is time to make the tea, or coffee.

what about CNN?
Bookworm42

I watch a fair bit of CNN but find that I have to limit it to short viewing slots as it can get rather depressing plus they have a tendency to over-examine stuff on slow news days and I don't like it when they speculate on stuff but have no facts to back up what they are saying....
I also like shows like, Riddles of the Dead, where they figure out with forensics about whether history books are right about old battles/stories, etc.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning, Bookworm. I find it quite hard to read the text of your posts in the colour in which they are posted. I don't know what colour it is because I am colour blind. Sorry, I just thought I would mention it.
I dont like CNN. They were too flashy and kinda boring. I like ABC news and CBS news the best. Peter Jennings and Dan Rather give good reports and are really professional, look nice. but then thats my opinion :| Also, i like MSNBC news's online video thing.. but i recently found CBS has better coverage than them.

Of course how could I have forgotten them. They're the best.
Since BBC is state operated, do you have commercials?

I've been watching a TON of Trading Spaces, While You Were Out, and Ground Force... and also sometimes watch What Not to Wear. :D For a while I was addicted to all the Christopher Lowell shows, gave me TOO MANY ideas for stuff I wanted to make for the sims though! (I have pages of notes I never got around to making, sigh!)
I haven't really had a tv show I try to watch all the time since Farscape and Buffy finished. :p But I LOVE watching Monk, so I guess that's one of my new favorites, even though I always forget when it's on.

I like Monk, too. But I haven't seen much of it. Like the character.
Just rewatched twister. great movie. I know, I know, I know that's not TV

I remember I wanted to see Twister but now I can't remember if I ever managed to see it! Does anyone else have that problem? :p
I watch That 70s Show when I remember it's on but I haven't seen whole seasons of it. I like that the parents are full characters too instead of just background, I always think it's fun when they do that in shows so you have generations or different age groups. hmm maybe I'll do a sims family of those characters. aah you've given me ideas! Do you know how dangerous that is?! ;)

Lately I've been watching a fair number of the older TV shows. They're not all that great but I like to see what my parents would have watched when they were kids.

Mind you, my girl friend (although she never knew it) was Doris Day. I am afraid that I still reckon she was the greatest. I saw all her films and collected lots of her old 78 records. I even have the odd cd now, and some films.

Doris Day was great! :D I love watching the movies from that era. :) Sometimes I wish the clothes would come out again like that... so elegant....
I've been watching a lot more BBCAmerica lately... got to see an episode of Coupling and most of an episode of Manchild and I liked them both. I've been watching a lot of What Not to Wear both the original and the American versions of the show, and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy too.... it's fun to watch people's reactions to feeling all dressed up and good about themselves.
And I think I'm under the influence of all these design and clothes shows... we finally went shopping for clothes for the first time this year. :p

My present favourite tv show is My Hero with Ardal O'Hanlon. He played in Father Ted, which was also excellent. It is about a Venusian living in Northolt, London. He goes off to save the world occasionally but he has no social skills on this earth. Even his little baby is Venusian, although he looks as though he comes from earth.

Sorry, you guys asked what Curb your Enthusiasm was and I forget to tell you. I'm a bit late lol but oh well. It's this show about the guy who created Seinfeld, Larry David. He's so hilarious, and it's about his real life. The character George on Seinfeld was based on the real larry david, he's this eccentric old guy who is famous since he wrote seinfeld, and he gets himself into all kinds of scrapes and it's hilarious. It comes on really late, here it's on like showcase or something.

It is british humour, I admit. The Americans are great at thinking up what a person can or might be made of. If you watch Sci Fi on the satellite channel you will see what I mean. Most programmes have someone who has something very odd about them - acute hearing (and all the other senses); just dumped in the ocean but not of this world; a sooth sayer; and so on and so on. The brits don't have things like that - they just are like that?
Have a look at the person next to you. What is wrong with him/her? Nothing? I don't believe you. "Everyone is daft but thee and me, and I have my doubts about thee." says the Yorkshireman.

By the way, I think that enthusiasm ought to be encouraged and not discouraged. I was always an enthusiast, and I still am. I was a workaholic and I still am
Enthusiasts often get it wrong, but sometimes get it right. Barnes Wallis said that if you are going to invent something radical and new it is better not to know too much about it.

I'll have to look for that and see if we get that show!! I *LOVE* Father Ted but I haven't seen a whole lot of episodes since I never remember when it's on and only find it by accident. :p

The station is BBC1, which is available here on a Thursday night at 8.30 p.m. I don't know where else it is available.
I have just been watching "Waking the Dead". That is a very good series about a cold case squad of the police. Mind you, I can just remember Dixon of Dock Green.

Wow...lots of shows to check out...some that I've never heard of! Over the summer we cut our satellite stations down to the bare minimum so we won't be tempted to sit inside all the time when the weather was nice but now that winter is coming...sitting in front of a warm fire and watching a good show on the telly sounds quite fun! :) Is "Waking the Dead" like "Forensic Files" and about the real behind-the-scenes stuff or is it a show like the Hollywood fictionalized "CSI"? I prefer the real stuff like "City Confidential", etc. to actors pretending to be criminologists. But I also admit I like the mindless amusement of some of the comedies out there, like 70's show, Friends and King of Queens, etc. too. They make a nice break from the history shows and learning channel shows I usually watch....

I just realized that my taste in TV is very like my taste in books and music....I like an incredibly wide variety in all!!! But, I admit that even in a 200+ channel universe one can find oneself flipping endlessly through the channels looking for one really interesting show to watch!!! :p

It is very 'English'. It has a Detective Superintendent, a couple of plain clothes policepeople, a Doctor, a Forensic Doctor, a Psychologist, A Computer expert, etc. No-one superhero! They seem to keep back a very important part of the story until just before the end. I suppose that is the way it would work in real life.

There is a show coming on CBS that's called "Cold Case" too. Dont know much about it. Will post here and compare when show comes out.
