New Computer - will it all work for me?

Hi everyone, new here.
Programmer by trade but computer enthuasiast by night.

I have a Gateway running Vista32 with 2gig Rambus 1066.
Tuned it with VistaSmokerPro - removes the unwanted stuff.
Works great - had it 6.5 years.

It's having issues running Visual Studio 2008 and all the addons (Architect version) along with the SQL Server explorer and some music at same time. Else it has no issues.

I recently got a bonus and wanted to upgrade.

I purchased (unless stated all have will keep - its new)...

Asus Rampage II Extreame
4 10,000 rpm Raptor drives (Sata)
2 Blue Ray DVD/CD combo read/write drives
850 Watt power
Radeon HD 4870 1gig Video card (not a gaming person so should work).
Have a Dell 30inch flat panel 2560x1600 (6 months old - got one for work so now have 2 - love them)
Have a THX rated Logitech system - 540 wats (2 years old - wil keep)
Antec Ultimate gaming case
12 gig Corsair mrmory (6 2gig modules).
Intel Core I7 965 Extreame processor
Extra cooling for the chip
Case has mesh front - 3 big speed controlled fans.

For me this is NOT overkill - I spec out a system that will last years. As a programmer I do it for a living. The Gateway lasted 6.5 and is still running - just can't run Vista 64bit which is what I want.



OK so my question is - the Asus board claims all this overclocking stuff - I just want to maybe tweak it a little but the memory I got I now notice states on it 2048, 2000mhz 1.9v


Does anyone have any experisnce with Asus Rampage II Extreame & using the Corsair CM3X2G2000CD9 4gig 2X2gb DDR3 v1.9 modules? (I guess yo dont need to have all 12 gig but it's the voltage I am concerned about)

The Asus board offers lots of tweaking options and seem to indicate you can set the core i7 voltage to within .5 of the memory and run fine.

Please give me your input.

ANY HELP is appreciated else I send the memory back (restocking fee) and get less - sigh.

Not to denounce anybody here but I don't think there's a lot of computer enthusiasts here who can answer this question.
I belong to a forum over at www.bjorn3d.com (http://www.bjorn3d.com) and a lot of those guys there could probably answer your question in better detail.
Personally I think 12 GB's of ram is a bit much unless you're running buttloads of programs at one time.

I can't find that Corsair Model on the Corsair website OR any internal white sheets I picked up from Corsair the other week.

For those reading this in the future, The major change within the Core i7 is that the memory controllers have been moved internally within the CPU. This really hurts a lot of potential overclocking mainly because you risk frying out the CPU for pumping in too much voltage.
