when a towns sim dies does his headstone autmatically go to the graveyard or do i have to change active households and place it there?

I haven't run into it yet, but supposedly you can pick up their urn/tombstone and put it in your inventory. Then you send your active Sim to the graveyard to place it. It's not necessary to change your active household to do that.
