I have tried many times over the years to sit down and write a novel but somehow I either never get finished because I get bored, or I run out of sheer inspiration ... either that or my circumstances change and I no longer feel "connected" to my characters ... always a problem when you take too long over either reading or writing fiction.

Anyway. My short story "Spike" was written 5 years ago and it is still my favourite. It is about a guy called Spike and it begins: "Uncle Spike could never resist a bargain. His home was always full -- and I mean really full -- of stuff. ...."

The story is a very "English" story of a working class girl growing up in the late 1960's.

CONTENT RATING: The story, Spike, deals with teen and grown-up issues that I believe are nevertheless suitable for teens. It contains a very few mild cuss words (less than 5).

It is quite long (about 7,000 words) It was first published by tales etc. (click here to read it) (http://talesetc.com/spike01.htm)
