Wasn't it some other people than Bush? i dont think i saw Bush in there at all. But, i do agree, somewhat, with you guys, And with the last guy that was quoted. "They" (being the copyright people or whatever) shouldn't be able to hack into some ones computer, and shut down their DSL or phone line. Nor should they be able to shut down some one who only uses the P2P rarely. And even then they shouldn't be able to shut the people who transfer thousands of files or whatever, they should only put them into jail for x number of years, and fine them x amount of money. And maybe, note MAYBE, plug their, and only THEIR connections to the P2P network they were on. Then there is the problem of finding out who exactly is doing this stuff. Hack into their comp? no, illigal. Bribe people to give names? nope, pretty sure thats illigal. and if they connected to P2P connections, they would have to hack into themselves and disable their own connections.
Just some of my views on it, feel free to criticize it.

oh umm, josh let me get this straight.

The U.S will bill you (i.e charge) if you hack something?

that's what a bill is right?

ManagerJosh
10-18-2002, 11:29 PM
no, the bill allows Companies like the RIAA to hack into your computer and remove files without your consent.

Jake
10-19-2002, 12:25 AM
so, are they still considering it or is it out the door or what? I hear virtually nothing of the outside world....

Helén
10-19-2002, 08:51 AM
Haven't the faintest idea Jake! Haven't heard about this until his thread came up. On the other hand, I never chase "news". :)

Jake
10-19-2002, 01:10 PM
me neither nina :) on both things; hearin about it and chasin news. :) :( ;)

In this case a Bill is sort of a legal proposal that they vote on whether it should become a LAW or not. Very different from sending you a bill charging you money for something.

I haven't heard anything new on this either, whether it passed to become a law or not, or if it's being changed before passing, or voted down or what.... I'm always nervous about stuff that could allow people to harm others because they THINK the other did something wrong, that gets into the old "witch hunt" mentality that I find VERY wrong and dangerous!!

Helén
10-19-2002, 04:24 PM
Thanks for the clarification Fae! :)
And I agree fully with you about the "witchhunt-mentality"

There are many ways to describe it - all true.

ManagerJosh

I find it distressing. This bill allows companies to access our computers without our knowledge and remove stuff..Imagine what happens if a hacked exploited this and hacked our PCs.

A number of unmentionables!

Helén
10-19-2002, 05:13 PM
That is really awful Josh!! I think such bills/laws are just made for the purpose of obsessed control and suppression.

timz2rules
10-19-2002, 10:05 PM
ok...heres a tid bit i've heard...

all things that must be ratified by the congress have to go through the polls twice...

thats why question 4 is such a big thing...and question 10 or 11...

ManagerJosh
10-19-2002, 10:16 PM
It only has to go through the House, Senate and then the president to become Law...

From there, it goes to the courts for evaluation and it may/may not be deemed unconstitutional on the grounds of invading privacy however it is up to the judge.

Frankly that's why I want to let as many people know as possible. This way we can petition the government not for this to pass

Helén
10-20-2002, 09:10 AM
I'll sign that petition too if you want. (Don't think that would be vlid but hey! who knows?) ;) In war and love... :)

timz2rules
10-20-2002, 10:32 AM
i'll sign too...this is just pushing the privacy thing...

Helén
10-21-2002, 09:12 AM
Mmm.. that's right Tim.

ManagerJosh
10-21-2002, 02:15 PM
I don't like it one bit. Especially if hackers exploit this, imagine the amount of damage one could cause.

Helén
10-21-2002, 05:41 PM
Mm. I understand and agree fully Josh!

timz2rules
10-21-2002, 06:15 PM
the damage hackers cause already is imense...but with this...and friends giving it to friends...you could have access to every comp that uses P2P

ManagerJosh
10-21-2002, 10:34 PM
exploit it and then wreck mayhem....it will be out of control!

timz2rules
10-22-2002, 01:13 PM
and then P2P apps. would have to go away..

ManagerJosh
10-22-2002, 09:00 PM
