I need help!

I just installed sims 2 and it said i needed dreictx 9.0c and i got it but it still wont work! help me plz! i wanna play the game!

first of all what is the brand and chipset of your video card (ATI? nVidia?) go to your card brand's website and look for driver downloads (should be really easy to find) and download them and install them. it should work from there.

Check your dxdiag (Start>Run>dxdiag) and make sure that you have finished installing your direct X. If it doesn't say "direct X version 9.0c" on the General or System Information page, then you may not have completed the process. (You have to install the download. So if you just downloaded it but didn't install it, that can be a problem. The one that comes with the game is self installing however.)

But then you have to go to the website of the chip manufacturer to get the latest drivers so that it will work with direct X 9.0c. I believe that ManagerJosh in another post in this thread has listed the sites for Nvidia and ATI, but if you have an Intel card, those are found: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-010475.htm

If you are still having problems installing Direct X, your best help would be on the Microsoft support page: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822798

I have a ati card but what driver on the site do i need?

if you have an ati card, go here: http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
follow the directions from there. if you do not know the type of card you have (i.e. radeon, rage, etc) do like KatAnubis suggests and open up dxdiag.exe. this tells you what kind of card you have. enter all the info into the web site above and you should be on your way to playing the game.

i download that but it still wont work, it also says i need directx 9.0c compatiable graphics adapter! i never gonna be able to play! its not fair!

give us the exact model number of your card (radeon 9200? 9200se? 9800? etc?). also give us your operating system. this is needed when you select the driver upgrade on the site. I can probably find the correct driver file for you if you give me the model number and operating system.

i did try to install one it worked and another one i tried said there was a error and i didnt work but the game still dosent work

AS I stated before, please allow 24hrs before bumping your own thread. There is a function called "Edit" which allows you to edit your post and make necessary changes to them.

well install the one that does work. make sure you are choosing the windows xp operating system as well as the graphic driver and RADEON family options on the http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html page. re-install directx (download it from the microsoft site if you absolutely have to, josh posted a link to it in the second post of this topic) and try re-installing the sims 2.

also go to this thread: http://forums.worldsims.org/showthread.php?t=2869. try what josh suggests and see if that will work. it will most likely solve your problem. as a last resort, go to ea games technical support and explain your problem to them.
