Maxed out carears

Hey all.

Right, I seem to remember that there were 10(?) steps to getting to the top of your carear (so cant spell that!) in Sims the first.

My Sim David, an OAP, got promoted maybe 3 times (maybe 4) and was then told he was at the top of his carear. His job tab shows no more progression (no "you need x friends or x body points").

He's a medicine carear guy and I #think# he's a paramedic (he does something like 6pm - 9pm or something daft like that). I was thinking after reading the astronaut post that the top of some carears are reserved for the young (footballers retire early, astronauts aren't OAP's, cept in Deep Impact but that was different). So is it cos he's old? Or are the carear paths shorter now? OR did he jump many steps via one of them choices about admitting pregnant women to hospital beds?

I just think its a bit daft that he's a top paramedic type person with like 2 body points, a mechanical or two and a cleaning when it used to be that you needed almost full bars to get to the top.

I'll add this on here, cos I seem to be the only one posting at the mo and I'm clog the board up soon if I dont watch out. (Sorry people)

Right, when i design two sims (Bill and Ben say) I can make them Spouses, Siblings or Roomies. My problem is whilst spouses and siblings will share the same name (Flowerpot in this case) roomies don't, but you don't seem to be able to give different surnames to people in a house. If I set up 2 houses I could get them to move in together as friends (and I presume keep their different surnames) so the game can obviously handle people with different names living under one roof (unlike sims 1), so why cant I do it from the start?

Is it possible to mod names somewhere? Cos it should be #sulks#

About the careers, I've noticed that too. I was *very* surprised when it told me I was at the top - it seemed way too easy compared to the original. Need this answered...

About the names, that should be possible to edit them, using a hex editor to edit the character file. Going to test that now ;)

It works. The hard part is finding the right Sim, which can take quite a while, depending on the number of Sims in the neighborhood. If it is a recently created Sim, it's not too much of a problem, but if it's an old one... =/ They are stored in "My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N###\Characters".

To change the name, open up "N###_User#####.package" with a hex editor and search for your character's surname as an ASCII (not Unicode) text string. Once you get to it, replace the surname with the new surname, and save. Voila, finished. I haven't really tested this very much, I just know that the mouse-over portrait text reflects the altered name. If it finds nothing, in all likelihood it's the wrong character file, so find another one and repeat. Of course, remember to make a backup of the character file before editing it like this.

An Elder who already had a full time job as an Adult will however keep that job and continue to be promoted until he/she dies or retires.
