View Full Version : My sim had 4 alien babies at once!

Yep, the maxis made sim Pascall Curious, in my game had 4 alien babies! Quads! Not twins... but quads?! Good gods?! Is this just a glitch or is it suppose to be an in game joke/surprise? Any one else had this happen?? It's a nightmare, it was near impossible to look after them when they were babies and toddlers, now that they're children it's getting better though. They're not identical, by the way.. they all have distinct looks and personalities. One of them even has her daddy's eyes (whilst the other three have black eyes). Here's a few of pictures of them.

Apart from being green, is there anything different about the alien babies? I had a go on the Strange town Pascal thang and got an alien baby, but then I went back to my normal game and left it.
Do other kids shun them? Do they start with higher skill points or anything? Or is it all aesthetic?
And btw, not had a baby get above, well, baby yet (playing a few houses at once), do they have any skill points when they reach teenage/adult life? Cos I always thought it was daft in the Sims 1 that no-one could do anything till taught. Some people are naturally good at things neh? Although I suppose thats reflected by active people learning body faster etc...

Cos I always thought it was daft in the Sims 1 that no-one could do anything till taught. Some people are naturally good at things neh? Although I suppose thats reflected by active people learning body faster etc... Nothing different about them sadly, it's all just looks(check out their family tree, by the way.. hehehe kinda funny to see their "mum"). I would have liked there to be something kooky about them (apart from their funny looks). So far all the other kids quite like them. They're brats though, due to the fact that I had a VERY VERY difficult time trying to raise them and didn't get to teach them to walk or talk or go potty (well actually a couple of them got one or two of those skills).
When the babies become toddlers they can start gaining skill points. Certain babies lean towards certain skills, make sure you have all the toddler toys available for them because that's what they learn on (that's the bunny head, the xylophone & the blocks). You have to pay so much attention to them and their wants and fears that I'd recommend having at least two people looking after them (even if there's only one baby and ESPECIALLY if there's 4! LOL  ). Then when they're children (and teenagers) they have homework to do and they can aquire more skill points using the same things adults can use (except for the gym equipment though... body points are gained in the pool instead).
One last thing, children can't be left alone in the house (like in Sims 1) you have to hire a nanny, just get her to 'track schedule' and she'll show up 15mins before your sim goes to work, that way all adult sims can work and not worry about the kids being home alone (because they won't leave them anyway).

2 Points. LOL Cass ... you have waay too miuch time on your hand if you managed to raise quads in that house. LOL. Good on ya!
For DP, raising kids in TS2 is a masterclass for the real thing. Getting the little b_____s to do their homework, encouraging positive personality traits, helping them to get an education (so they can leave home safely able to cook and change a leaky tap washer).
Now what I wanna know is when are we gonna start a series of Mendelian trials so that we can ascertain the inheritance ruless for hair and eye color. My sims demand to know what characteristics are recessive and which ones are dominant. :p

You might be right. I'm not sure though. I hope it's not because it's a terrible thing, I don't even like the twins (meanwhile, the father of these quads is now an uncle of twin aliens... his brother gave birth today. ). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was just a glitch in the program, because it didn't warn me that more then one baby was coming (when twins are born it points out that there are 'two' new members to the family.. it just told me that there was A new member to the family). *shrugs* Who knows, it could very well be the big surprise. It certainly surprised me!

I really hope they come out with a patch or something in an expansion that lets you set which of your custom skin colors and hair colors and eye colors are recessive and which are dominant.... I think I vaguely remember hearing somewhere that the custom content will be dominant so show up more.... but I'd love to create a blue skin, and yellow skin, and be able to set my green skin to show up as the result of the combination of blue and yellow parents! ;)

Just keep on making your potential abductee look through that telescope between 10pm and 2am every night! I figure if you keep that up long enough it HAS to happen eventually. Your poor sim might not get much sleep though... work could suffer... maybe it's best to plan his life around his new obsession.... ;) :p
I swear I've read in at least one chat transcript with the Maxis people that you could have either one baby, or twins. They specifically stated that triplets/quads/etc were not possible.
Even though I loathe raising Sim babies, I now totally want a set of quads! I wonder if quads only occur with the male/alien pregnancies?
I have all my adult Sims use the telescope from 10-2AM (if I can get them to), and so far, only one female Sim has been abducted. But then I learned that the females aren't impregnated.

I'm guessing the second twin alien babies were a glitch? Perhaps like the time I had my one infant turn into two identical sim children in the sims 1 game... I paused the game during a transition to take a picture and suddenly a second child appeared in the transition! I could only control ONE of the kids though, the other I started calling the phantom child, as her face never appeared on my family list. It was annoying because I could see the queued up list for the sim I could not control, but not see what my sim I could control was planning to do. That phantom sim snacked me out of house and home too! And loved blocking the bathroom! :p
Now that the alien quadruplets are older, I'd like to ask, can you control all 4 of them as toddlers or kids?? Do they work like the normal sims?

Do you have to have a lot of logic to be abducted or doesnt that matter.

Doesnt seem to matter as far as I know.... my guy barely had 1 logic point when he got abducted. Then later when he was abducted again he had a little more.

Whenever i have a girl baby, she always comes out looking pretty much the same as all the rest, she changes hair and eye color but everytime one of my families' has a daughter when she becomes a child her hair is always that short haircut, never semi long or anything, just the short one, is it all random or is there a way that i can change the outcome of how the baby looks?

The children have default hair color. You need to have them look into the mirror and click on "change appearence." Then you can pick the hair color and style you want. However, when your sim becomes a parent, their child will inherit the one of the two default hair style of the parents, and you'll have to change their hair, too.

Custom Made skins are dominant, but there is no blending of them. You get one or the other rather randomly (but definitely they are dominant over any Maxis made skin, eye color, etc.)
As to having more than twins, it's a glitch in the system. Some people just exit without saving and try it again if that happens because it is rather exhausting for the poor parents.

Heh, if that ever happens with me, I'm just gonna play it as it lies, because I'm a masochist like that. :) Or is it more like sadism, for dragging your Simmies into the experience with you? Does the view of whether playing this scenario out is sadism or masochism depend on the way you play your game? What do you think?
Kristalrose
12-06-2004, 11:19 AM
I don't know, I just think it would be fun to have tripplets or quads. Just the challenge of having to raise these children would be worth it. I wouldn't quit without saving, I'd be counting my blessings. :)

Oh, I feel like a complete sadist when I attempt to **** up my Sims' lives for my amusement, to the point where it's just not fun anymore. Though this varies. If I like a Sim then I can't be horrible to them and if bad stuff happens to them I won't save it. However, I have currenly got two Sims I got bored with starving to death in the cellar of a gothic castle, while the rest of their family get on with their lives overhead, ignoring their screams of pain. So I suppose it depends on whether I am emotionally engaged with a Sim or not. Sims that have no real personality (I mean the personality that you imagine for your Sims, not the amount of points they have in their personality categories) I don't anthropomorphise and so can inflict any amount of pain on them. But I have surprisingly limited control over whether I am attatched to a Sim or not, which is a little weird.

According to prima guide the large telescope is required- not the normal one.
Also if you are serious about wanting to know the dominant/recessive genes the guide has those too hehe - let me know...
Twins are a 5% chance - getting them twice would be very unlikely - however! so many people are having them, ive had 3 births none twins tho.

My first babies were twins. It was pretty hard learning the game and having to deal with twins at the same time. To my credit, the social worker never came, worse I got were a few warnings about starving my poor kid.

Well ... goodness gracious me! :speechless: If twins have a probability of 0.05 and what happened here was each twin, twinning then the odds ... hmm math and me don't get on well but I make 0.05*0.05*0.05 or 1.25 per 10,000 births.
However the second twinning events take place simulatneously after the first so maybe it ought to be 0.05*(0.05+0.05) which would be 1 in a thousand. Yikes!
Triplets however would occur (I think :p) at the rate of 1 in 400. In all case these rates far exceed real life ... luckily for real life or else we'd be swamped with diapers before Christmas.

And raising babies for me is pretty hard because I get tired of them crying and having them make a mess with the water.:classic:
When they turn to children and teenagers it's not as hard but it is hard when they never do their homework, and the bad thing is that they are never in the mood.

Okay the genetic facts:
[D - dominant / R - Recessive]
Hair(4):
Black/brown D
Blonde/red R
Eyes(5):
Brown/Dark Blue D
Blue/Green/Grey R
Created sims carry 2 of the same gene (hair - red/red, eyes blue/blue), but a child would mix the two genes,
example
Dad is brown/blonde and mom is blonde/red, the child could have
1: Brown/blonde (brown, D)
2: Brown/red (brown, D)
3: Blonde/red (50/50)
4: Blonde/Blonde (blonde :) )
So although if dominant genes are present, a brown/brown haired male could have a child with a blonde/blonde - child gets brown/blonde, shows brown - he has a child with a blonde/blonde - could be either brown/blonde or Bl/Bl - obviously Bl/Bl would have broken the brown D gene.
Custom content is D - when matched against another custom gene its 50/50

Hey blower that's a neat bit of technical detail there. I may decide to split this thread so that we can continue debating genetics ...
Some more questions ... these ain't exactly life or death, but I'm kinda curious (but too darn lazy to find out by experiment ... :p )
1. CAS sim are pure-breeds (2 identical genes) but can I assume that any children made in CAS (of two parents) will have one gene from each parent?
2. Hair color is inheritable but can be changed in a mirror. If they have children after changing does the original hair color get passed on?
Angelyne

If I remember my biology class correctly, this is how genetics works; Assuming Dad is brown eyed (B,B), and mom is blue eyed (b,b) (B represents a dominant gene, and b represents a recessive gene)
...| B | B
----------------
b | Bb | Bb
-----------------
b | Bb | Bb
This means that there is 100% chance that your baby will be brown eyed since that gene is dominant. However they will carry the recessive gene for blue eyes (Bb).
So let's say we have the child above (Bb/Bb) have a baby with a blue eyed (bb/bb) spouse
...| B | b
----------------
b | Bb | bb
-----------------
b | Bb | bb
So we see that we have 50% chance of having a brown eyed baby (Bb) (with a recessive gene) and 50% chance of having a blue eyed baby (bb).
Anyway, apparently this is a simplification and human genetics is more complicated than that. This system was designed by Mendel from experiments he did on peas :)
However, this is pretty elementary and I wonder if it's how it works in the game. I also wonder how custom genetics get passed along. Is is considered dominant has as been surmised?
Angelyne
01-16-2005, 05:14 PM
2. Hair color is inheritable but can be changed in a mirror. If they have children after changing does the original hair color get passed on?
I believe that if you change the hair color, the child will still be browned haired. I guess this is like dying your hair. In the context of the game, the eyebrows give it away :) Even though you change the hair color the eyes brows do not change.
I tried mating my black haired girl (from a black haired father and blond mother) to a blond boy. I only had one baby, but that baby was black haired. If changing hair color in the mirror had affected genetics then the baby would have automatically been blond haired.

It was SO much work. LOL I swear Pascall nearly spent the whole time having a breakdown (so did I lol :p ).
I named them Viridian, Pepsi, Uhura & Krysta. :) All four have families now. Viridian has 4 children of her own plus one that was her husbands from a previous marriage. She's the family sim of the group.
Krysta is miss popularity and is more interested in partying than families but she has one child of her own.
Pepsi is a fortune sim and is married with one child and one on the way.
And Uhura is married to another alien woman and they have one adopted daughter and have just adopted another one which hasn't arrived yet.
I've decided to keep them alive as long as possible. I figure...they're aliens so they'd live longer than humans (or Sims) right? Hehehehe...
They haven't progressed much because I'd become obsessed over a custom neighbourhood I created and hadn't been back to strange town for ages. But I'm starting to play them again.
I'll get updated pictures as soon as I can. I've been having problems with my game since installing Open for Business. :) Soon as that's sorted out I'll show you what they all look like with their families. :D
