sam_lawrence
11-05-2002, 08:29 PM
It looks good, but i was expecting something more contempary.
Helén
11-05-2002, 08:42 PM
Like what Sam?
sam_lawrence
11-05-2002, 08:58 PM
Hard to explain in words... you know what contempary design is like dont you?
Helén
11-06-2002, 05:23 AM
Not really. Sam. I would probably know exactly what you mean in Swedish. ;) Or I'm just to sleepy to geet it right now. :)
*is almost still sleeping*
FaeLuna
11-06-2002, 03:34 PM
Do you mean more minimalist?? Many people have different ideas what contemporary means... I wouldn't exactly say the design looked "rustic" or "old fashioned"...
Helén
11-06-2002, 03:38 PM
I got the meaning of "new" or "modern". And it looked modern to me. On the other hand... I like "sweaping lines" ( best way I can explain it), but if that is considered to be modern or not I don't know. *shrugs* ;):classic:
FaeLuna
11-06-2002, 04:59 PM
Maybe Sam will come back and explain how the design DIDN'T look contemporary to him, and we'll get the idea of what he meant? :classic:
Helén
11-07-2002, 09:59 AM
He probably will when he remembers to check this thread. lol

I know its not Traditional at all, but yes - i almost mean more minimalist.... i found these translated words nina... tänka på, betrakta, beskåda, fundera.
Helén
11-08-2002, 02:31 AM
Lol Sam. :classic:
Those words have to do with contemplate and/or view. I'm very curious about where you found that translation on contemporary because it's not accurate I'm afraid. Her's the right ones with simpler words...
*Betrakta, beskåda = look at, view
*Tänka på, fundera = think about, ponder. contemplate
It's not easy sometimes... ;) I wasn't sure about the word contemporary first - so I looked it up both in eng-swe dict. (where definitions and usage can be missing) and Collins Concise English Dictionairy (The only one I could find here in Sweden some years ago. Took me 3 years of search. *sighes*) So I think I got the concept now. ;)
You guys really put me back into studying sometimes. But I think I learn from it too. It's just to hope I remeber it as well. :)
*gives Sam a big hug*
Thanks sweetie
FaeLuna
11-08-2002, 03:18 AM
Maybe it translated contemporary as trying to make a simplified look to things? :D
sam_lawrence
11-09-2002, 02:19 AM
Maybe Faeluna. Nina, i found them at http://www.translation.langenberg.com/
Helén
11-09-2002, 04:35 AM
I don't know how you got that translations Sam - but I tried that link now to check it out and got this:
contemporary = samtida (meaning "of the same time")
Exactly the same definition/translations as Collins dictionairy and my english - swedish.. Collins also states that the word is mostly used to express something "modern".
The translations you got Sam means something totally different as I stated before. Those words put together is a very good definition of contemplate!!.. I used the "expert" at that site.
Lol!! I believe we can discuss translations to the end of the world. Anyhow I think we all got the meaning of "contemporary". So I think we can let it go. ;);) Don't you agree??
*gives Fae and Sam a BIIIIIG hug*
FaeLuna
11-09-2002, 01:20 PM
heehee! Well, now that we all kind of know what contemporary means, I'm STILL curious about what Sam was thinking the user interface COULD have looked like, to make it look MORE contemporary! :D
Helén
11-09-2002, 01:50 PM
Well Sam did say on the page before this he might mean more minimalistic design. And it IS hard to explain design in just words. So if he really meant that or not..????? Maybe, if he has access to pictures of what he mean...
Sam!!! Explain more please!! :classic:
sam_lawrence
11-18-2002, 11:38 PM
I do mean minimalistic... like "Less in more"
Helén
11-19-2002, 08:11 PM
"Less IS more". Got it Sam. :classic:
Yes that's true in one sence. As long as it isn't those dreadful 60's and 70's squared buildings!! Yikes!!! I'm not found of those "all glass" buildings either. To uniform for me. I like sweaping lines and colours that blends, captures the sun and gives it back in warm nuances. like stone such as granite together with glass. :classic:

Scripting
ManagerJosh
11-26-2002, 04:15 PM
Microsoft, eat your heart out :)
I dunno about the scripting, but the Robot looks like the replacement for the aliens or Godzilla. Also, the fact that they created a soccer stadium isn't what surprised me about the first one, but the fact that its recreational and not professional.

11-26-2002, 08:38 PM
lol Josh, i agree.

And i wonder if it supplies income for your city.
FaeLuna
12-12-2002, 04:48 PM
I should think it would provide income when your city attractiveness brings tourism maybe and maybe not so much or cause a debt if your city isn't so attractive.... Or something like that, it's just a guess, based on how the sims games have worked in the past... seems like it should have consequences to have one!! :D
sam_lawrence
12-12-2002, 04:56 PM
Well it is a reward, and some rewards COST money to maintain, but who knows at the moment... we'll find out in a months time :D
There are 11 new gameplay screenshots over at: http://www.simtropolis.com
These are exclusive to Simtropolis, you would not have seen them before...
There is also a Q&A session with Andrew McCleod in the forums if you have burning questions about SC4 you want answered, for your convenience, go here: http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/forum.asp?forum=8§ion=1&post=2289
Hope that helps stir up some more excitement about the game!

Thgis thread is now a merged with other threads about screenshots. it's easier to see the previews in one thread. This thread has only screenshots prior the release of the game.
