You will need to tell what part of the game is boring you in order for anybody to help you out. I got extremely bored playing the Romance-sims, watching them get up in the morning only to find that they now want 6 lovers instead of 5 the day before. I hardly ever choose my sims to be looking for romance anymore. That's boring to me.

What is it, then?

My son made a haunted house and now creates odd looking sims, murders them, and then moves in another family. He keeps trying to think of new ways for them to die. I told my husband that this bothers me, but he said, "Hey, look, he's 14. At least he's not out blowing up mailboxes or playing Grand Theft Auto like his buddies."

Experiment with different aspects of the game. If you're bored of making your Sims' lives, get into the architecture aspect of the game and make amazing houses. If you're bored of keeping them green, make them suffer with ghosts and shrinks and death and aspiration-faliure states and abduction etc etc. If you're bored of making happy little conjugal family units, experiment with matrifocal, consanguineal, complex or just plain dysfunctional, families. If you're bored of the game, do something else like Mirelly says. Not everyone finds the Sims absorbing and entertaining - it might be it's not just for you. Try not playing it for a few weeks or months and then rediscovering it - it's amazing how rewarding it is going back to a game you used to play ages ago.

Don't bother with ideas, then. Just go with the flow. Leave events up to chance. Stuff that doesn't happen autonomously you could determine with a dice. Fun things will happen soon, if you just let things happen. It's the best way of playing the Sims, honestly. Also, stop creating families! Play the ones you have already, get them to interact with each other, move in with each other, kill each other, marry each other, cheat on each other, have each other's babies. Make a baby boom, populate the neighbourhood that way. Marry the fireman. WooHoo with the gardener. Have the repair man's babies. Make a graveyard. Defeat the grim reaper. Have twin alien babies. Have an alien family. Break up marriages. Bigamize. Stop thinking in terms of mum, dad, child 1, child 2! Have mum, dad, stepdad, granny, aunt, twins and strange old lady noone really knows! And don't create all that on CAS, make it happen in-game.

LOL that's excellent advice Zooty! :D I'd forgotten all about my own hood's slightly odd weirdo (a corollary to your "strange old lady noone really knows") ... I must and find out how he's getting on ... er, when I have gotten my new hood's incipient oddster, Mercury Willis out of his teens and into his own home. Maybe I'll have him move back into the family pile in time to die there and add add his ghost to its spooky nooks and crannies ... hmm, I just thought ... I haven't even seen an alien ghost yet!

I'm trying to make a neighbourhood from scratch. I've made up a bunch of characters in Body Shop which I have customized using a whole pile of skins I've downloaded from the internet. I have a family of freckled red-heads, a scandinavian family, some very dark skins africans, some asians, some characters with tattoos ect.. All skins are custom and not the default colors. Eyes are custom as well. I've kep the default hair color however, since I can always change it in the game.

To add more interest, I found a web site that lists baby names for a ton of nationalities, so all my names are authentic. To create a more realistic face, since I don't have an intuitive grasp of the features of a particular race (i.e. I don't just want a caucasian face, that happens to be black) I look up famous celebrities and try to make my characters look like them. So far I've done Christopher Judge, Lucy Lui, Viggo Mortensen.

I'm made a little excel spreadsheet that creates a random family for me. It determines aspiration, zodiac sign, fitness, number of kids (and their age). I've been using that to actually create my characters.

So far I've been having a lot of fun customizing my neighbourhood. When it will come time to actually PLAY it, I'll follow some of the excellent advice I got in this thread.

Herth, a character I made just so the children I was making on CAS could have a dad on their family trees, has become one of my favourite Sims. I decided after he had a nervous breakdown when his housemate Chosledei gave all his children away to the people she moved in with that I'd make her marry him and bear him ten children to make up for his loss. Since then I've decided that it'd be more fun to have these children be born by other people in the neighbourhood, so Herth has babies scattered everywhere and is currently living and making babies with my Legacy family's eldest daughter, while merrily cheating on her with a host of other people including his wife. It's so interesting that the simple fact that it's the female Sims that get preganant and not the males weighs things towards enormous male polygamy if you play with a disregard for family units and yet wanting children to be born. It's so much easier to have the male be the active one, i.e. going round to the female's houses and Trying for Baby, rather than the female - the pregnancy, even though it's only three days long, makes it more difficult.

(This ramble was supposed to illustrate the merits of going with the flow, changing your plans etc, btw ;)).

You can download different skins. From the main sims 2 site I had gotten one that was kind of rainbowy. You can get blue, green, red, pretty much any color. Then you just pick it under the custom content when you are making your new sims.

You should be able to go here (http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/search.php?asset_type=sim) then click on the menu on the left where it says "custom parts" then it will say something like skin tone or custom skin or something like that.

There are a lot of them on there so it may take awhile. You can also put a keyword in the search box at the top or narrow down the search by choosing male/female or age.

They also have skins on some of the other sims 2 sites. A few were listed in other posts here but I can't think of which ones they were off hand.:(

I liven up my TS2 game by trying to make families / neighborhoods that resemble other games I play. Cloud and Tifa living happily in a scale model of her house from FF7. An entire neighborhood based on Everquest experiences I've had. A neighborhood based on people and places from Vice City (lots of criminal carreers). It's hard work but it pays off big. I still love the game and play it a few times every week.

Very unlikely, given how unsucessful The Sims Online was. If they totally revamped their system and came up with a completely new way to play online, then TSO2 would probably be a go.

What happened to TSO anyway. I was in the late phase of the beta for a while and then got bored with it. Or rather, got distracted with other online games, soon as the novelty wore off.

I have since swore off all online games. I will not try another, I will not even look at another will not will not willnot willnotwillnotwillnotwillnotwillnot

twocows vomitted forth:

Bad assumption. Free Will allows Sims to make a fleeting pass at life, but without you, the simulator, they quickly degenerate and die. The more there are the worse it gets. With Free Will on I had one guy block the pathing to the fridge in a small kitchenette and kill his entire family (they were all hungry and they starved to death waiting for him to move). It was a lesson learned and one I was happy to learn because I enjoy the micromanagement. If TS2 was just a soap opera I watched I would be disappointed quickly.

I guess i just get bored of making the same old houses with the same ppl and same aspiration. I dont have any other ideas

If you always make your houses the same way, try looking at some of the sites which cater to houseplans for new ideas.

Here are some fun house plan sites:

http://www.globalhouseplans.com/index.htm

http://www.amazingplans.com/

http://www.stockplans.com/

http://www.coolhouseplans.com/

http://www.dreamhomesource.com/BestSell.asp

http://theplancollection.com/

http://www.oldhouseweb.com/houseplans/

And a very interesting one:

http://www.castlemagic.com/color.html

And this one has several links to other sites as well:

http://www.houseplanes.com/g-common2.php?ppid=1040&K=house%20plans

And of course, you could try working with Body Shop or Homecrafter plus making things for the game. In Body Shop you can experiment with faces and get Sims that are not just the "same old people." While you have to download Homecrafter from the official site, Body Shop is already in your computer, just waiting to be launched. Make sure that you've exited the game, then go to Start, click on Programs or All Programmes, then EA GAMES, then The Sims 2, then launch The Sims 2 Body Shop from that list. Don't be worried if it takes a while to come up and don't try to click it again, as that crashes the one that is already launching.

And if you are still just plain bored, it might be in "burnout." The best thing for that is to do something that doesn't require you to be on the computer. Go read a book, talk to a friend, do some exercise, etc. Come back to TS2 in a few days and you'll be amazed at how "new" the game feels.
