Question re: Livin' Large

We just bought the expansion pack for the Sims and were wondering how, if any way at all, the Sims from one neighborhood can visit the Sims in another--and if you can move a family from one neighborhood into another. We rather thought that was part of the pack and were surprised (and a little disappointed) when we couldn't.
