College rent

Hi all

Call me Mr Thicky, but I don't understand the whole houses in the college town thing, or the dorm system.

If I have 2 sims in a 6 room dorm, they will pay 2/6 of the property cost each semester. But what is the property cost?
I assumed it was the value of the property, but if that is true how come when they move into a house the have to pay the value AND some more each semester?

I don't get how what they pay is worked out, could someone point me at the obvious please.

Ooh, I won't call you mister Thicky, DP. The economics of the Sim Universe are a deep mystery not fully understood by mortals outside of Maxis. It is better to make your own dorms where, due to a glitch, the postman knocks but always forgets to leave anything in the mailbox. :rolleyes:

I don't understand the whole college fees/charges/tuition stuff. I just got it last night and I had a message that the bills were piling as I just plain forgot to check the mail. So, I checked it. Paid two sets of bills. Two Sim days later, the repo man came and sucked up a stereo. ?? I had been keeping an eye on the mail box this time. I wasn't behind. I had some simoleons, not a lot, but some. I work in the cafeteria once in a while. Who knows. I got quite a kick out of it.

Sounds like a repo man bug. I've never had something taken if I paid my bills in time.

That's the "stuck bills" bug. It happens occasionally, especially on new lots or lots that have been converted to Uni from pre-Uni.

To fix it, if you're getting strange warnings that bills are not being paid when you cannot find any at the mailbox, you will need the Lot Debugger (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/hacks/ffsdebugger.zip) to "Kill Stuck Bills". This will remove all of the bills which might be stuck on the lot.

Back to the rent issue though . . . I'm afraid I can't be of assistance as far as determining the rent.

immediatly after reading this I also got the stuck bills bug

what was really weird is that when the repo man came he went all over the house and went through the sucking ray gun thing animation over and over again but he never took anything. After a while he just gave up and left :confused:

Somehow, mine fixed itself. When I entered the lot again, I could then check the mail. I was kind of hoping to see the repo man again. :D
