The colour that appears around shapes in images with transparent backgrounds is the one you have to choose in the export dialog: ie match background color. The program then uses that colour to make the gradient pixels in the anti-aliased zone and at the edges of fuzzy features such as drop shadows. It shouldn't be a noticeable problem in images when they are displayed on a web page with the correct background. eg your image looks great on a pure white background. The problem only becomes serious if the background colour is different or you're using a background image in a different format (eg a jpg or a GIF with a different colour pallete!) It doesn't appear to be the case here unless you have a different background colour in mind ... :)

thats the problem though. this is going to go on a new site design as a logo and behind this is going to be a custom header image that will span the page behind the logo.

and id love to go png as the times ive used it ive NEVER ran into this problem, unfortunately IE sucks at rendering png's which im sure about half of my target audience uses.

Oh. There are ways around the problem tho. eg if you are fixing the logo at top left why not just save the visible logo layer with the visible bg layers below it as your logo. It will then sit seamlessly on top the bg header img ... you can easily do this with CSS controlled layers and divs and without using crappy tables. :)
