View Full Version : Using the "deleteallcharecters" Cheat

Has anyone ever tried this? Build a new neighborhood and a new Uni Campus. Use the deleteallcharecters cheat to wipe out the townies, dormies, etcs. Start fresh with only your own sims, :)
My idea: create 30 sims, 15 of each gender. Start all of them off in the clean uni. Let them interact, fall in love, marry, reporduce.
Of course, this will all be moot when Nightlife comes out because I'm sure it will add hundreds of townies. But, I like the idea of playing with a "clean" neighborhood.
What about the mailman, Nanny, Maids, social bunnies, cafeteria workers, professors, and other service sims? Does this delete them off as well, or does the game regenerate them?

i would assume it would regenerate them as would every other townie. by default when you build a new neighborhood, it starts fresh with no townies as this cheat suggests. the game just ends up rebuilding the townies. theres no way getting around that :)

Do you think there are townies in the tutorial world? I was waiting for one to walk by but nothing... Although there are the NPC maids, nannies, etc. So, does the game just make them again if you delete them? They're invincible!!!!!!!

:) JMP's got no regeneration hacks that I run for both the townies and Uni.

I've done this before using Inge's teleporter plus shrub. I have a Dr Peculiar in one of the houses as a placeholder for a small surgery of sorts. It has all necessary skilling equipment, and I'm working my way through the career rewards.
So what I do is every time I start up the neighbourhood, I create a few sims in CAS (and I get to test if my latest downloaded clothes etc work) and move those sims in with Dr Peculiar. After some skilling if necessary, I then make them into townies with the shrub, and then go back into the neighbourhood and play my regular families.
I have 3 current "legacy" challenges going that use my version of the rules: "Hacks are allowed, but only those that are fixes or macro commands." I also have one Email challenge lot (Current score 0 but its still early).
This way I actually know the townies, and by always creating new ones when I play, I can choose potential marriage partners for my playable sims.

I like this idea and have thought about doing it for some time. I'm glad you brought this up, Kristal.
My idea: create 30 sims, 15 of each gender.
Is there a reason you chose this number? I've wondered if there is an ideal number for a new neighborhood. They seem soooo underpopulated when you first start. I keep adding one or two here and there and by third generation, I'm kicking myself. I usually do it because I've used the few game generated townies I can stand.
garyalexza, I like your method of creating a few new townies each time you play. That's do-able. The thought of creating a number of new townies at the first was a little overwhelming.

I haven't downloaded Inge's shurb and I've never heard of "Dr. Peculiar", Gary. Where did you download it and what exactly does it do?
Zydeco: 30 was a number that I thought was doable for a Uni campus, and yet still gave me a variety of sims to play. I worked all evening, making Sims of several diffrent styles, skin tones, eye colors, etc. I took SBW's advice and used mainly the default skin tones because they blend. I figure it will seem dead at 1st on the community lots, but then again I don't use them very often, and I was hoping that if I did send a sim to a community lot, the game would be more likely to send other CAS students instead of "townies", and so I'd have a better chance of interactions.
If it failes miserable, well then, hey, I haven't bothered my beloved Simmies safe and sound in their home neighborhood. :) And if it works, well, all the better. ;)

How are you playing without Inge's little shrub? It's absolutely necessary! LOL! I keep meaning to ask her to recolor it or something. I'm tired of having a little blue shrub at every house.
I read Gary's post to mean he created a sim that he named Dr. Peculiar. He made the ultimate Mad Scientist who creates and trains NPC's and townies. :D
it will seem dead at 1st on the community lots
I made a small isolated mountain neighborhood. I only made one community lot...a general store. It's modeled on Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. It may be just a fluke but it's busy 24/7. It's the first community lot I've ever had that is worth visiting day or night...of course there isn't anyplace else for my sims to go! ;) Nightlife might change this but for now I'm not going to make multiple community lots in a neighborhood.
I think I'll start my new neighborhood tonight, too. I wanted to attempt a new terrain using SC4. I spent yesterday ripping my house apart looking for it only to find that my son loaned MY game to someone who is apparently out of town for the week. (And they wonder why I hide TS2.)

Yes, Dr James Peculiar is a CAS created sim, nothing special about him :) Well except for the fact that he knows EVERYONE in town, never gets older and lives alone in a small cottage where, late at night, and if the wind is right, you might here weird noises, noises that you don't REALLY want to investigate...

How are you playing without Inge's little shrub?
You do realize to the outside world we sound quite insane.
I never play with shrubs, and I've survived just fine ...

So how do you get rid of all those invisible visitors? I bet if you got "Inge's little shrub" you'd be surprised at all the lurkers on your lots. You'd be saying "wow, zy...how did I live without this little blue bush?" :D Ghosts leaving tons of puddles? Ghosts pick the worst time imaginable to haunt the property? Just hit "remove all visitors". They disappear for the night. For romance sims, being able to teleport your next conquest, makes it invaluable. It saves a lot of stalking at community venues. (I hate romance sims so this makes it as painless as possible. ;) ) You teleport someone new to your house, say "hello" and "goodbye". Spend a little time chatting on the phone (using pescado's phone hack) and the next time you see them they'll follow you home. Got an hour until spouse gets home? Teleport side dish over and now you've only got 16 more woohoo's until you reach platinum! Invaluable, I say! Try it...you'll like it!

Okay, the woo hooing did it. (I may be a sweet southern belle, but my sims are baddddd! :p ) I'm going to download it and let you know how I like it.

How to get that "Marry a Rich Sim" want: Use Inge's teleporter shrub to move the person in .. Use JMP's money transfer hack from one of your rich families ...

Okay...quick question about creating my own NPC's. I've spent the weekend making my new neighborhood and am down to creating my townies. Will it keep the name I give it once I use Inge's little shrub or will the game assign it a new name? (I don't want to waste my time coming up with good names if it's going to change it.)
garyalexza
08-22-2005, 10:26 PM
It keeps the names that you give them. What I've found is that you can leave the townies as they were created with 0 skills and no job, and if you meet that sim, they will have been assigned skill points and a relevant job. But you can grab those townies back via Inge's shrub and skill them up if you're not happy, or you just want to check.

Invisible visitors? I don't seem to get those. I can see all my visitors just fine, and I like it when my ghosts appear at untimely moments, like last night when one interrupted a first kiss. I wish I had been able to catch it on video. Too funny ... she popped right through the man's chest.
It would be nice if there was a phone book for a neighborhood, much like the campus directory, though. That would make meeting certain people a lot easier ... does the shrub let you choose?

and this is with inge's bush?
Yep! I'm telling you all...you'll wonder how you lived without it! :D
I started making my townies last night and realized I didn't have the super deluxe shrub. I had to go grab the one that lets you turn people into townies. I got the painting instead of the shrub so I could tell which was which at a glance. I didn't run across any of my new townies last night...I hope it's working.
Gary, thanks for responding about the naming. You posted just before I left. I think everything worked fine. How many townies do I need anyway? Will these be the maids and gardeners? I wasn't sure if I needed to make enough to cover those jobs or if the game will generate the NPC's.
Invisible visitors? I don't seem to get those.
If you don't use Merola's Mirror you might not know you have them.

I made two townies, or, should I say, dormies. They stayed in the dorm, they even showed up in the secret society. But, they were no longer playable characters, and I was able to move in another sim. :)

All NPCs are game-generated (NPC are all the sims that you can hire via the phone and the ones that man the tills at community lots, plus the social worker, nannys, bunnies & mascots etc).
The townies that you generate will be found walking around the streets, and hanging out at community lots, and coming home with your playable sims.

I think I've done something stupid. :( I remember seeing pescado mention something about there being a university lot problem but I had no clue what it was about.
Anyway, I liked a particular townhouse at one of the university campuses. No one had ever lived in them. They were off campus housing. I redid them and put them in my lot bin. I stuck them in my new neighborhood and now my sims are being told to go to freaking class! One of my adult sims is all torn up because he's evidently on academic probation for not attending exams...which would be impossible since he's an adult and I don't even have a university campus set up for this neighborhood.
Is my new neighborhood fubar? Should I delete the entire neighborhood now before I get any further? I've spent a week building houses and sims and new townies. It would be painful but I need to know what to do now before I invest any more time.

I somehow put down a Uni house and it had the same problem. I moved the Sims out there and deleted the offending house. I think that fixed the problem for me. Not sure how it'd do for you.

Thanks chee-z! Maybe I'll build replicas of the townhouses and move my sims into those. Can I move the university lots back to the original university or should I bulldoze those suckers?
I can understand why one might not move a university dorm or special building into a normal neighborhood but I don't understand why an unused house can't be moved around. This is frustrating.

I suspect that university lot problem is down to the mailbox/trashcan. I bet that it could be 'cured' by fooling the game with the ChangeLotZoning cheat. Try changing the lot to a community lot save back to neighborhood and then reload and change back to residential save back to hood and reload again. It should now have a normal neighborhood mailbox and trashcan :)

I caught Mirelly's suggestion very early this morning so I tried it. No problem changing one of the lots to community. But when I went back and changed it to residential my game terminated. It did it several times. I have no clue if it was due to changing the lot category or something else entirely. I was so frustrated I deleted the neighborhood. (One probably shouldn't do this sort of stuff before coffee. :tired: Starting all over sounded just fine at the crack of dawn. :ponder:)

Yowch! No wonder I spent the day thawing out bags of frozen peas on my ears :o
Seriously. I don't have game access at the moment. Anyone else wanna test this out on an unimportant 'hood?

LOL! Nah...I wasn't mad. I went on a real sim housecleaning binge after that. I was in a ruthless mood. Sometimes you've just got to show this game who is the boss. ;) But yes, it would be nice if someone who likes restarting the game over and over and over would check this idea out. Obviously, I don't have the patience. I thank everyone that does enjoy experimenting with the game. It's saved me a lot of headaches. :D
Okay, you all know my level of computer expertise is nil but I did notice that I couldn't match the lot size when attempting to replicate those townhouses. Is it possible the lot sizes are completely different for university lots and that triggers something?
