Well I played for several hours last nights, dates are harder than I thought they were going to be, although the official guide did come in handy several times. I turned one of my families in strangetown into vampires. I only played the pre-made neighborhoods as I want to experiment with those sims before I go and play with my favorites and somehow screw them up. One of my sims is now a pleasure sim, and I do like the wants she displays, one was to have a bubble bath, that was easy enough. I didn't get around to building anything yet, that's my plan for tonight.
I did find one glitch, I had my teenage vampire (Destiny) pay for a blind date with the gypsy...eh, it went okay, not the best date in the world. Once the date was over he left the lot, and the gypsy was still on the lot so Destiny went and paid for another date...thump, a new guy fell from the sky, then promptly disapeared after saying, "Hey thanks for the date it was great..." (not in those exact words of course) Umm....they didn't go on a date. But he did call the next day saying he had a good time and asked if she wanted to go on another date, so it sort of worked out.
Other than that, no other major glitches noticed, it did slow down my game play quite a bit, loading takes a little longer, and sometimes the game freezes for brief moments, but normally frees up after 10 seconds or so. It's nice that you can click on the house next door to play that family instead of going to the neighborhood screen first and then choosing a house, that was the only part where my loading time was shorter, just because we get the skip that step now. Which I also have to say that my favorite part is seeing the other houses from the lot your playing, I love that.

My first Nightlife thoughts are as follows:
At first I noticed a BIG loading lag. Then I refreshed my page file and increased its size to maximum for my systme (4 gig). Now it loads faster than with Uni.
All of my custom content loads. As a matter of fact, after turning on custom content in the confirmation window, some of it shows now that didn't before. Wow! I am very happy about this. With over 7800 meshes, hacks, recolors, and hacked items, I was very concerned about stuff working. :D
The MUSIC! It is AWESOME. Clasical, oldies, and housemix dance techno. Very cool. But what I noticed most is the improved and more variable build / buy music. :) Very needed. It breaks the audio tedium a lot better. Builder / conceptualizor characters will be relieved.
More group interactive objects, including a bowling ally (I like very much, especially for less "urbanized" families), a poker table, and a ton of club and retro items. Modding groups like Retroville and others will have TONS of stuff to recolour and clone after today.
People can LIVE Downtown, and not just through a life stage. This is a GREAT spot to place your Urbanite Sims. Very cool. Now there is a definite different feel between the city and the Burbs.
You can see neighbor lots and community decorations from your house. This adds a ton to the feel of the game. It didnt slow down my system at all (after I increased my page file) and clicking straight to a neighbor lot to play them is a real sweet addition. Now it's not just built like a neighbor hood, you see the nieghborhood around you. Are your Sims the one trashy bungalow on the block, now they see their eyesore for what it is. ;) Live on the poshest block in town, revel in the splendor. :D I like this feature A LOT!Now, I've just begun to scratch the surface. I haven't yet bought a car or built a new downtown. But I will, bet yer bottom Simolean. As it stands I haven't found a single problem with this game. Not one. :)
Now, all i want is the Uni / NL patch to come out and fix the bad object bug, then I'll be all smiles. :p

I use Monique's enhanced computer, the CEP (of course, manditory these days), the mirror blue flashy fix thing, and Gunmod's camera no-clip more realistic videos camera hack. And the InSiminator. That still seems to be working (at least the pregnancy and teleport functions).
However, I did have one bug today. An entire community lot just stopped working. Everyone, including my Sim, couldnt do anything except stand around. I had to reload from the last save.

i dont know if it is a bug or what, but for the lack of better explaining it without turning this into an R rated post, i was able to easily change the sexual preference of 2 female sims and get them "in love" even when they already had previous longlasting relationships with the opposite sex. this was all done in the matter of one sim night at a downtown lot. no hacks or anything as they were already disabled by the game.
only other miff ive got is why the driveways have to be so long? why cant they have a garage right up by the road? cuz i just redesigned the garage on my "Luxurihome" (check the neighborhood and community forum) and i had to move it back on the lot by about 6 blocks, shorten the walkway from the house to the garage, and delete half the covered patio before it would actually work as a "garage".

MoreAwesomeThanYou had a fantastic thread with one of the maxoids asking for specific problems that need to be addressed in the patch. I was stunned Pescado didn't post. I hope he did it via personal messaging because I would assume he could list every single problem concisely. It would be awful to think he let that opportunity pass him by. He hasn't posted very much on his own board lately.
Honestly, Kristal, I thought most hacks were developed for a particular ep. I thought you had to trash most of them. Most downloads should work but I thought hacks had to be specific for your game configuration. It's the main reason I wait for ep's. I want the hacks I consider essential updated first. Does the "nocheeringhack" and "phonehack" work? I won't play without those! LOL! "Collegeclock" and "clothingtool" save my sanity. I'm sure there are others I simply take for granted that make the game run smoothly. Does Merola's painting work?

I found my first official Nightlife bug. I made a group (The Studious Six, nerds with a penchant for bowling, video arcades, and diners) and sent two out to eat. When i returned in Khal's car the group member was seen levitating in the sitting position in front of the house and I could hear the car, but no sign of Khal or the car. My game was unplayable, I had to reset from save.

No, this is in reference to a new function in Nightlife: the ability to create social groups that do stuff together. For example, the AWESOME ability to invite an entire group over to your house, in ONE PHONE CALL. Those with phones and good relationship will come over in one swoop.

Well i finally got my copy of this exspansion pack as always i backed up
my stuff and had a smooth install something that was a lesson learned with university which was a dam nightmare with out the custom content
switch you have in nightlife thank heavens the programmers are listening ?
I figure il start the game fresh with a clean slate to see the games strength with out the mods and hacks and i must say it did very well
had me back into the intense mode again of building than mod testing
oops " Anyway the new content is a welcome site and to get these sims
out and about is cool ..my ati 9600 256 said bring it on baby ..lol" The graphic's were smokin i even installed a new raptor hard drive fresh for the game which really help big time , Ok back to the game reveiw :
the cars are cool i wish we had hydraulic's heck doing a three way lift
at the club would be sweet lol" and having a Bmw wouldnt hurt either
i am sure the mod's are coming after nightlife ...the driveways were a bit tricky but heck thank god its there ...and that poor truck they could of at least put some rims on it ...ha ha ha flames cant do it justice lol"
also with a alien and vampire mix i am sure youl get some freaky DNA
out of these sims ..what a Mix ...a bat flying a saucer ha ha ha ha
geeze " thank god for having something to do in this game its nice to party now whew " and the new music on the build screen buy that programmer a drink thank goodness almost went mad with that last music
on the build screen , All in all this exspansion was well deserve and i think they heard us i am sure there is a few quirks here and there but i think this nightlife is a hit because university threw everybody off eventho
its a part of the series ..more like a babysitting exspansion to get rid of your kids ..lol" eventho there is a few items like the drums and bass and guitar and a few items noted to enhance the exspansion ...But nightlife does bring the game up to speed on fun than a book thrown at you in university oops again " But so far so good :bunny:

one thing that really caught me offguard last niht was that they finally added in surround sound support which actually works! 4.0 doesnt work on my system although thats how the speakers are set up, but 5.1 works fine. cant really say its very accurate though. im wondering where they are figuring the sound positions from?
also: i might have a new video coming soon now with the in-car woohoo and its awkward but fitting animation :D

I finished loading Nightlife last night. I did all the recommended preparations and I think everything went pretty well. I had to lower some of the graphics settings (lighting, shadows, detail, etc.) because Downtown is so busy the action was jerky and hesitant. Seemed OK then. I really like the look of the slow dancing and the improved animation of conversation over meals, not to mention the neighborhood feel of being able to see other buildings. Haven't tried much else yet. However, I did look in on a small group of three students in college. Since it was time for one of them to leave and move back to town I didn't bother with the party, just had him call to move back to Baltimore. And got a blooper with the age transition ... I think he's OK now that I've moved him into a house Downtown (although I'm sending him to buy new clothes as soon as possible (yeesh.) :)

Thanks, JMP. I've been reading your site (along with other modding sites) to see what's happening, but all I saw about your hacks was that you didn't yet have the game.
I don't have it yet either. This will teach me to mail order rather than just order it directly at the retail store. But at least I got my Prima Guide and have devoured it. Between it and my vicarious reading of the various sites, I'm about ready to jump the UPS man when he comes.
The hack I'm most anxious to see again is the payatbox hack. It and my Merola 64 multipainting are my absolute favorite "mods." (Well, and the no-cheering hack, which supposedly we won't need anymore.)
Also, any clue as to whether the Colour Enable Package (CEP) is working for Nightlife?

I absolutely love being able to see more of the neighborhood around the household. :) I've been planting trees like crazy, as backdrop to relieve the "twilight zone" look. I'm assuming the ghostlike appearance of the houses next door is the way it's supposed to look. I'm guessing they are representative 'icons' (for lack of a better word). They remind me of how the buildings look in free camera mode when you get down really close to them from the neighborhood screen. Anyway, I'm putting up a couple of pictures (from Uni) to show what I mean. Notice the shadows of the two houses. :p
By the way, my graphics card is an ATI Radeon x300. And just for these pictures I set Detail and Texture to high, but left shadows and lighting, fade and view distance at medium.

Personally, I think Nightlife gives far more bang for the bytes than University. This is a robust addition. Lots of new items and decoration options (now all those community made rugs can go into a rug catagory, woot). Most importantly, the feel of Nightlife is tangible. The way you see and feel the Sims world is changed.
Thumbs up. :cool::D:cool:

oh that's okay, my real name Shana everyone pronounces wrong anyway, kind of used to it, it's pronouced Shay-nah. And the jupiter thing, yes, I do like that planet, but it originally came from Sailor Moon, back in the high school days, I'm 24 now. We had a group of friends, we were all kind of into the cartoon, and everyone said I was exactly like Jupiter. The one who thought with her heart first, loved to cook, my favorite colors were green and pink (still are) and she was the tallest of the group, which is true of me as well. So they started to refer to me as Jupiter and it just kind of stuck. And that's the story of my screen name...

Makes sense to me. I love green and pink, too, and I used to be tall but a lot of people caught up to me! I'm 5'7", have been since I was 13 ...
Rowan, you would have to go and make this harder. I can't wait. It's all I can do not to bug my friend every other minute, but then I'd be like a kid on a car trip ... Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? :D (Actually, more like, "are you ready yet" since I haven't even given him my computer yet ...)
He's really good at finding parts. If he finds them, then tells me it will be another three weeks (for which I wouldn't blame him, he's got a life) I may have to figure out how to install them myself!!!
I already know how to put in a hard drive. How hard can a new motherboard be? (She asks, foolishly.)

(I really, really need to update my Pop-culture references, don't I ;) )
I did a Sims-Marathon yesterday, for the 1st time really playing just for the enjoyment of it, not for the troubleshooting, learning kind of play I have been doing.
I really love all the little extra surprises that they added. The 1st time I saw a boy sim sneaking onto the lot after a date and leaving the girl sim a dozen roses, well, he might as well been leaving them for me I was so excited! ;) And the "furious" reactions are hillarious. Just for fun I invited two sims I had seen fighting autonomaticaly on a community lot for a birthday party. :D It was more fun than watching an old episode of Jerry Springer! :) It seems like, when you play one of those houses now, the "rival" sim keeps walking past the house. I don't even have to watch the sidewalk, I can just watch the resident sim's thought bubbles and see that the rival is stealing their newspaper or kicking their garbage cans over!
One thing I don't like about it is how suddenly all my sims, even my happilly married, carefully match-made couples all want to date, and not date each other!! This is why my community lots are turning into slap-fests! Even something as innocent as "Ask" comes off as a romantic interaction. Last time I asked some guy, "So, what are your interests," He didn't have hearts explode over his head, and my Hubby didn't have to kick his "can." :p
Kat: Thank you, thank you, for the links. :) I have been watching the "Doesn't Work" thread at MTS2 and that thread at MATY, but I hadn't kept up with them in the past two days, and they seem to have gotten very busy. :)

Those lists help a lot! Trying to wade through long threads were getting tedious. Except for 3 hacks, all of mine are Pescado's. I could even live without many of those. At least the college clock and clothing tool seem to work. I'm disappointed payatbox, autoyak, and macrotastics aren't working. These 5 hacks are necessities as far as I'm concerned. To be honest...I'm not sure I can play without autoyak. :( I might grind my teeth away to nothing if I have to call those 20 friends individually daily. Pulleeessseee fix this one first, Pescado!

Finally got NL yesterday, then had to go out for the next 6 hours grrrrrr, so I got to play it for a few hours last night. I really love all the new interactions (and my NPCs seem to fight a lot as well, lots of slappin'!).
Thought I'd try out the new Pleasure Seeker aspiration and so far have found it quite hard to get her meter to go up, the wants my sim keeps getting are really low in points, anyone else found that? It may have been a glitch in the meter though, because her plum bob would be gold even though in the meter it was barely green.
I found also that getting rid of the InSiminator was a good idea because while I had it in there my sim would display a similar problem to the jump bug, even though I could get her to do what I wanted after a few tries.
Game play does seem to be faster, not load up though...too many downloads :D .
So far very much enjoying the game, downtown is brilliant with a huge amount of new places to go (haven't been to half of them yet), plenty of new objects and clothes, and i love the half walls!

09-20-2005, 07:11 PM
I finally got my NL! But before I could do anything with it, I had to finish the DSL installation that was started (but had to be postponed when the phone company messed up something because they didn't bother to check something with my ISP.) But now the DSL is up and running (YEAH!!!) and so I installed the game.
I've been mostly trying out the building tools so far today. And I accidently tried out my favorite objects. (I pulled one of the object folders but not the one with my favorites in it.) I didn't lose a bit of those. (Next I'll throw in the bigger "favorite objects" file. I'm crossing my fingers on that one!)
I love the thing where you can put the same Maxis house in again and again. Downtowns tend to have rows of townhouses, so that's what my Downtown experimental neighborhood now has. (I love the townhouse. It's much better laid out than the houses from University!)
Some of the clothing styles I feel are appalling! Ick, ick, ick.
As to the mods I want to put in as soon as I can, the Merola64 Multipainting is a critical one for me. Next is the daily gardener, but I saw one report that said it caused no problems and another which said it messed with the fortune teller. And payatbox they say may have problems with the extra goodies that come in the mail such as the coupons and love letters. I'll have to wait on that one.
So, I'm off to do another check of the lists to see what's going on with bugs and mods! (Then I want to actually play my regular neighborhood instead of the "experimental" one I always use first!)

I think this is the "official" MATY list, kat. Dr. Boris compiled it. His name is usually included on all Pescado's hacks.
I am still debating about whether to install Nightlife. No one seems to be terribly frustrated except with the tombstones. (I think I'm afraid I'll find my video card won't handle it.)
Can I ask if moving my downloads and hacks to desktop is enough? Or do I need to do something extreme like sending them to my email?

I know! I've already started to see some fun things that are just for NL.
And, thanks! I can't wait. May have to juggle my schedule so I can stay home that morning ... :D

So you going to be putting Uni and Nightlife on there? Gee, your going to have so much fun once it's all in there, we probably wont see you on here for a bit!
I want to upgrade my proccessor, the game doesn't run slow or anything (AMD 2500 if you wanted to know), but I think it's overall performance would be better if I did.

Crikey I feel totally out of date. Was NL out in the UK last week? I didn't see it on the shelves in my local Asda (Walmart). It was there today but I didn't buy cos I didn't wanna depress myself ... PC still in cartons ... PC desk still covered with piles of clothes, linens .... Erm, actually the fabric items are on my Yamaha keyboard which is on the desk that I can't get near because of piles of other clutter.
On the plus side maybe the Pescado hacks will be fixed by then ... I need the phonehack or I'm not playing. :p

Hey, Mirelly! Haven't seen you in a while.
I already have uni, Sylla, but I've been afraid to play it because I have a 600 MhZ "loaner" cpu and I don't think it can handle it. I'm getting a 1.4 GHz Intel processor, not terribly fast I guess if you're running a 2500 ... is that the same as 2.5 GHz? And you want to upgrade?
Sorry. I'm new to the computer hardware thing. Please tell me that a 2500 isn't twice as fast as my upgrade or I may cry.
Oh, well. As long as I can run NL I'm not going to complain.

Is there a date for when the Authorised Personnel Only alarm will be fixed? I accidentally enabled custom content.

Nightlife seems to be working well. *knock on wood* All of my previous downloads and most of my hacks are working. My comp seems to be handling everything well. The game automatically put my settings at low but I've bumped them all way up and it's playing smoothly. The game seems to load faster with NL.
The hacks I've missed and will try tonight are "continuous paint", "macrotastics", and "autoyak". I didn't realize how necessary these have become. I'm going crazy trying to keep an eye on the painters, picking what friend to call next, and setting that freaking flamingo back up. I'd forgotten how tedious it is to click on everything to see what needs cleaned. I've overwatered and killed every flower bed on all my lots. I miss effortless micromanagment. :(
Is there a date for when the Authorised Personnel Only alarm will be fixed? This is one hack I seldom use, slim. I've killed scores of people with this thing accidently. In Strangetown the Grunt brothers each brought a friend home from school one afternoon. The general "forgot" to turn the deathfield off and zap...zap...zap. I managed to rid Strangetown of all the townie kids in one fell swoop. The Beaker's first kid age transitioned in the doorway and his first memory is of being saved from death. I forget to change the settings on this thing...it's downright dangerous! LOL!
Good to see you back, Mirelly! I thought we were going to have to take a team over to see if you were buried under unpacked boxes or something. ;)

I have NL in my hot little hands! We went out to dinner to celebrate our kitchen being painted (and because we couldn't use the gas stove until the paint dried LOL) and there was a CompUSA right next door! So I've got the EP, I've read the manual ... now I just have to wait for the friendly FedEx guy!
And my friend to upgrade my 'puter of course. I can handle putting in RAM but a new motherboard is something else ...
I should be up and running by Wednesday! And hopefully before.
Yeah!!!

No, a 2500 doesn't run at 2.5GHz, it runs at 1.8GHz, hence me wanting a new one! :D
Glad you finally got the game, hope everything runs like a dream for you once it is all up and running too.

You really should check Pescado's official list he linked higher up in this thread, and don't use any hacks until their authors have certified them safe. Even if a hack appears to be working, it can be causing irreversible damage in the background that you may not even be aware of until it's too late.

I've had the list. It's printed off and sitting by the mouse. I've slowly added back those that I find essential. Autoyak and macrotastics appear to be working. I understand college rampage doesn't work. I made sure all my key people graduated before installing Nightlife. The only one I was worried about was the continuouspaint. It's on the discontinued list but it seems to work just fine. I guess Boris will have to have me shot. :D (I have backups of my neighborhoods. If the worst happens, I can reinstall the whole nine yards. Since I restarted from scratch with University I don't have multigenerational families to lose.)

Still a little sad that my upgrade will be slower than your computer! But maybe I can upgrade again when I get that great new job ... I'm already saving my pennies for a new video card and some more RAM.

Even if a hack appears to be working, it can cause problems. I had one I had downloaded from MTS2. I've had it for a week, seemed to work fine, and then I kept noticing stuck pregnancies and parties and sims doing funny little circle dances. I took out the hack, and everything's fine now.

Even if a hack appears to be working, it can cause problems. I put my hack folders back into the game but used SimPack2 Clean Installer to turn almost all of them off. I have less than 10 working right now. I've watched the various hackers' threads to see what problems are popping up. My game seems very playable at this point but I'm prepared to turn off those that create any problems. If the few I have continue to work, I can wait indefinitely for the fixes.
I've only had one hacked object that didn't work. The modder has upgraded it so I've been fortunate. One hack I like that doesn't work was "smartserve" (?) I liked having the person cooking make the correct amount of servings. I'm waiting for dizzy to upgrade this one. I don't think this ep has had as many problems as University but I suppose it's still early. I'll keep knocking on wood and hope my game doesn't blow up. ;) I play very slowly so all the hackers and modders have plenty of time to fix things before I get too far into the game! LOL!
