I'd advise moving your entire neighborhood folder to keep the relationships going, if you have the ability to copy that much data. The easiest way to find which is the right neighborhood is to look in the neighborhood storytelling folders for pictures you've taken, if you've taken any. If you haven't, take a few now, then check.
However, even simpler is this: if you have one custom neighborhood it's N04. Your second one is N05, and so on. They should appear on your beginning menu in the order you created them. The three in-game neighborhoods are N01 (Pleasantview), N02 (Veronaville) and N03 (Strangetown).
You'll find all this in the My Documents/EA Games/Neighborhoods folder. Copy all information in the appropriate folder to your new computer. I'm pretty sure you can overwrite even the in-game neighborhoods if, for example, your sims lived in Pleasantview.
Oh, and don't copy information from your C drive. That's game data. Only copy from the My Documents folder. That's where your specific sims are located.
If anyone knows why this might be a bad idea, speak up. As far as I know it will work.

:o Hey thanks a million, its somewhere to start any way. I was thinking, if I copy the full EA Games folder, will this include the party pack and the patch I have in? Sorry to be a pain, but I'm sure you understand all the long hours of work I've put in to this family!! Thanks again.

Backing up and/or restoring you data is a good idea in a number of cases. Backing up will allow you to restore in cases of file corruption due to downloads or a bad save, and allow you to start with your old Sims instead of from scratch if you are uninstalling an expansion and going back to the original Sims 2.
If you are backing up Sims 2 data before installing an expansion, make sure to keep this folder in a separate and safe place, as over-writing it with expansion data will nullify your ability to replace your Sims 2 files. You may even want to burn the data to a CD for safe keeping.
To backup your data:
Open your My Documents folder.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on The Sims 2 folder and choose Copy.
Close the window.
Right-click on your desktop (or another location you have chosen for the backup) and choose Paste.
From here you may write the folder to a CD if you wish.
If you files become corrupt or you are uninstalling an expansion and want your old Sims back, you can restore your Sims 2 data.
To restore your data:
Right-click on the backup The Sims 2 folder and choose Copy.
Open your My Documents folder.
Right-click on the EA GAMES folder and choose Paste.
You will receive a confirmation message asking if you would like to replace the current files. Choose Yes or Yes to All if it is available.
Allow the copying to finish.
When you start your game you will now be using your backed up Sims 2 data.
