Why

Why live in a world where skin colour matters,

I don’t belong where nobody cares,

Why live in a world where people follow others,
Why live in a world where terrorists make demands?
No one stands up for a right to good life,
No one offers a helping hand.

Is it a sin to think God has abandoned us?
Is it blasphemy to call out His name?
Does He listen when we talk to Him?
Does He look at the world like I do, and feel the same?

Clouds sigh as they catch glimpses
Of what humanity has become.
Thunder murmurs around us,
Like the death toll of a drum.
Tears rain from the sky,
From the souls of those once here.
The Wind howls in mourning,
As it hears the Devil’s cheer.

Murder, rape and robbery,
The list goes on and on.
No longer do I feel safe,
With the threat of guns and bombs.
‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’,
A phrase now so worn out.
All fighting for the same thing,
Each man now with his doubts.

I look out of my window,
At the world, and give a sigh.
Are we safe for one night longer?
The question is only: Why?

You want something to compare your poetry to? Here's all I remember of something I wrote when I was in 7th grade or thereabouts. It's just the beginning of a much longer poem (and I use the word 'poem' loosely.)

In the land of Hockensock
Was a castle built of rock,
And because of latch and lock
No one could enter.

Here the mysteries did abound.
Here on this old castle ground
Slept the Princess De Meround
Right in the center.

Ultimately the Princess was rescued by a prince named Lester. I'm not sure it was actually the land of Hockensock. It was a land that rhymed with rock and lock, anyway, so it no longer matters.

Thought everyone would get a good laugh out of this. Go ahead. It's on me. :D I just remembered that my English teacher (yes, I handed this in) laughed out loud when he read this. He even read the thing to the class, laughing the entire time.

And the number is 490.

OK, since we're confessing, here's the start of a REALLY bad poem I wrote, around age 16. Similar to Lynet's, actually:

When the North Wind's howling at my door
Its sad and mournful cry
Reminds me of a tale I heard
When I was yet knee high

There was a time, so I've been told
When the North Wind walked on earth
And everywhere warm breezes blew
Spreading happiness, warmth and mirth.

OK, go ahead, guffaw.

I did write one or two good ones, but most of them were, sadly, not for posterity. :D

123, the gnome cracked me up and I'm still laughing about the smashed mouse, Mirelly.

My daughter rewrote several nursery rhymes when she was five. Is that bragging? Oh, probably. But they're better than anything I've ever written.

Here's one:

Hickory dickory dock
A mouse is in my sock
He wiggled his nose
Which tickled my toes
And gave me quite a shock!

Here's one I wrote:

One person's normal is another person's crazy.

That's my poem.

Short and not that sweet.

No I am NOT going to count and I will put a hex on the next person who counts for me. Here's the hex: That you will have to be nice to someone you don't like.
