problem after 2 weeks

Please help- otherwise my daughter will murder me

We've had Sims2 working fine since Xmas day on an eMac 1.25

Now, suddenly, it pauses, with an egg-timer, when loading, say, Pleasantville. The first two white shapes fill in on the left, and that's it. You have to force quit.

I've tried trashing the preferences, but to no avail.

Has any custom content been downloaded? You may need to remove that from the Downloads folder. Also, if it never even allows you to get into the neighbothood view, it may be that there are too many decorative elements in that view. Do you know if your daughter maybe added trees, baloons, or other things to the neighborhood? That can really slow things up...
