I don't post all weekend and no-one even guessed me! How sad...oh well. I didn't do much all that exciting this weekend, helped a friend move, that was about the highlight. And a short side-note. I've been at work for 30 minutes already, and I've only had one call...I work in a call center. Talk about slow!

Nah--I'm leaping in. I don't need any knives. My workplace isn't so complicated. Office politics is very straightforward--the sales people rule, even though they sit on their you-know-whats most of the day gossiping and not selling. So the store barely breaks even.

10-23-2005, 05:55 PM
I'm back! It was a long trip, but lots of fun. Unfortunatly on my way home today my dad called to tell me that my great-aunt had passed away. She never had any children of her own, so we were kind of like her grandkids as well. Every time I saw her she reminded me that Shana was the Hebrew name that means pretty face. (that always struck me as funny that Shana is a Jewish name and my dad is from a strict Catholic family, my mom is from a strict Lutheran family) She was a sweet and extreamly active lady. Went on missionary trips up until she was in her late 70's. Thankfully she died peacefully in her sleep. Not exactly the way I wanted to end my vacation. Funeral is tomorrow morning, which means I get to take one more day off of work. *sigh* Anyway, it's good to be back...and man do I have a TON of catching up to do! It's going to take me 3 hours to read everything!

jupitershana
10-23-2005, 07:30 PM
She was more like a grandma to me than my "great aunt". My grandma and grandpa on that side of the family passed away in 1999 and 2001. But even before then she acted like a 2nd grandma. She never married or had children. Traveled all the time, she was very strong in her faith. She was a nurse, and she went on missionary trips to South America all the time...she was truely an amazing woman. She was in her early 90's though. She lived a wonderful life, and I'll miss her greatly. Oh, and 123, don't worry, it didn't sound insensitive, at least not to me. I was actually thinking the same thing.

10-25-2005, 06:43 AM
Nope, me. Here a bit late today.
Sorry about your aunt, Shana. She sounds a lot like my mom's cousin, who was also more like a grandmother to me. She was a lot older than my mom. She died a few years ago at age 93 after a long happy life, never married (proposed to twice but too independent). She was strong in her faith too, traveled until her mid-seventies, very active in women's rights causes in Minnesota. She even has a scholarship named after her.
Sounds like they were two birds of a feather. I miss her terribly but she told me herself, she was ready to go. When your body starts to fail you and you've lived that long sometimes death is welcome. I can't imagine it, but I'm not 93.
I miss her every day but I have my memories. She's one of my heroes.

10-28-2005, 07:40 AM
NOW it's me. Yes, Kupo, been playin' up a storm. Check out my story for more info if you haven't already ...
I'm having a blast. It's really fun to have two completely different households (OK, three if you count the parents). I've got Mr. and Mrs. Conventional and then my rowdy fighting jobless vamps. And believe it or not, I enjoy playing both equally. Zaire and Castor are even more in love now that I've steered him away from "muscular vampires" as a turn-on. He kept wanting to spend waaaaaaaay too much time with Spike, even though they both like girls.
Now he likes brown-haired girls with makeup, and they've got three bolts for each other. All together now ... awwwww. I don't think it's cheating. I think a person's tastes can change, and he and Zaire are perfectly matched.
Oops. Off topic!!! Sorry. Um, Lynet?
person123
10-28-2005, 01:00 PM
Me!!!
At first I was a little unsure about the whole vamp thing, but I guess it can be fun. Btw, I forgot to ask in your other thread, SBW--why is all the area around London and Spike's home grey? Is it some kind of new terrain?
Babe?
surprised_by_witches
10-28-2005, 01:20 PM
It's cement, 123. It is a new terrain, along with dirt. I made Porta de Luca dirt, and while it's more realistic it's a bit ugly. Dirt ugly in fact. :p But it's kind of fun to have to lay sod ... just wish adjacent panels would show effects better. I put sand all around the beach I made, for example, but it doesn't show up.
Could be my inferior video card again.
Um, let's see ... Kupo?
jupitershana
10-28-2005, 01:35 PM
Nope, it's me. I also used dirt for my new neighborhood with the DeFoy twins. And now that I can see what the concrete one looks like I'm kind of glad I didn't choose that...too sterile for my liking. I've only been able to play the sims for about 2 hours since I've been back from vacation, tonight I have nothing going on. Ian and Melanie are finally going to get a downtown tonight...it's still empty!
Umm...lets see...Kupo?

Well, we're illustrating our own children's books, and only 6 page long ones at that.
Saw is the SCARIEST MOVIE EVER! I didn't even see it and I got so freaked out when my cousin told me about it. I've had nightmares all the time, since I was like 3 or something, and when I found out no one else did I was like, "What's wrong with me?" :o Seriously, though, I don't think it's good for me.

ROTFL whew...needed that one today. Oh, and 123, it was very freaky, i don't recommend it if you scare easily...I do, I had nightmares...I'm almost 25. I was actually more horrified of what I saw in the theatre though than the actual movie. About 4 rows in front of us a family came to see the movie...with their 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter. I was ready to scream at those parents. It is rated R for a reason. Why on earth would you bring such young children to those kinds of movies!!! Seriously, get a babysitter or go see a more family orientated movie. When I was 5 I had nightmares from watching movies like Ghostbusters and Gremlins!
Kristal? I know you have to agree with me.
surprised_by_witches
11-01-2005, 11:55 AM
I agree with you, Shana. Some parents should have their heads examined. You have to know those kids will have nightmares for years, or become so desensitized they'll be a burden on society ... sigh.
I'm not even taking my child to see HP IV. She's 8 and I think the book is too scary for her. Maybe when she's a little older she'll be able to see it, but she's missing the curve on Harry Potter. She's been too young for every movie that's come out so far. They keep getting darker. She's seen the first three but I know what happens in the fourth, and she's not ready.
You couldn't pay me to see Saw. (Or swing, LOL, just kidding.) I saw Scream, thinking it would be fun, and was afraid to go into my garage for months. :o
OK, enough digression ... I predict that now it will be Krystal.

Yeah, it's me!
Since I have a whole bunch of older cousins and second cousins and third cousins (lot's of relatives, you know how Asians are) I've watched a lot of scary movies way too early for my time. You know when you're like 5 and you want to be cool and mature like all your siblings and cousins, so you do everything they do? Well, my cousins are 3 years older than me and they're like obsessed with scary movies. So, whenever we went to their house I'd excitedly go up to their room and sit huddled up in the dark and watch a tiny flashing screen showing freaky kids that crawl out of the TV....yeah. And look at how I turned out! Perfectly fine! Even my own imagination is fabricating things to be afraid of--about a year ago I had a nightmare that an evil red-headed man came out after 8 pm to kill little kids that were out....
Anyway, on a cheerier note, I guess SBW!

11-02-2005, 02:15 PM
I often fabricated things in my mind when I was younger as well to be afraid of. My cousin and I were famous for this. Let me spin you a story...
When my cousin and I were around ages 12/11, we were up at my grandparents cabin swimming. Our aunt had been fishing off the swimming platform earlier that evening and dropped the basket of fish off the plateform on accident. My cousin and I were attempting to dive down to see if we could grab the rope and try to save the dinner. My cousin ended up brushing up against a rope while she was diving but was unable to grab it. After another 10 minutes or so we gave up and were sitting on the swimming platform. Somehow between the two of us we managed to convince ourselves that the rope she had felt was not from the fishing basket but from a body that had been dumped in the lake...(I have no clue how we came to that conclusion). We both freaked out and didn't want to get back into the water, however our parents wouldn't take the boat out the 20 ft to come get us, so we swam as fast as we could to get back to shore. We of course laugh about it today, but I think it was at least a week before we would go back swimming.
Lynet, got any of those funny stories from your childhood?
person123
11-02-2005, 03:38 PM
Well, mine's not really a childhood story as I'm still in the midst of mine, but over the summer my cousin and I freaked out over a very real threat. We were wading around in the small creek behind the small summer community place we stay at in PA, you know, just stepping on the large rocks sitting in the middle, and Chrissy (my cousin) started screaming. I was like -_- "What now?" She scares easily. Anyway, she said that she'd seen something long and silvery slither through the water near me, and, though I was a little scared now, I figured she was just seeing things. Then, like five minutes later, we both saw a snake swimming towards us at lightning speeds! About a millisecond after we both started screaming our heads off, she noticed that it was only the shedded skin of a snake. That obviously meant that a snake was living near there, so we both went back to the house as fast as we could. I swear I lost 10 years of my life at that moment.
Okay, who's next? Lynet?

I actually convinced myself that my house was haunted when I was about 12 years old. I was laying on the floor watching tv and out of the corner of my eye, I saw our rocking chair rocking by itself. No one else was in the room, so of course I thought "GHOST." Now that I'm older, I realize it may have been one of the cats brushing up against the chair. Oh well. I've always had an overactive imagination.
Hmm...SBW?

11-03-2005, 07:36 AM
Yes, it's me.
I lived in a haunted apartment once, at least I'm pretty sure it was haunted, and I'm fairly skeptical about such things. I was sleeping one night and felt a presence in my room and when I looked up there was a man sitting on the side of my bed, smiling at me, but I could see right through him. He was definitely a specter of some kind, but I didn't feel threatened at all.
So I told myself, I'll get up and put a glass on the table (I was living alone so my place was spotless ... those days are long gone!). If I'm dreaming, when I wake up the glass won't be there. If I'm not ...
In the morning the glass was there.
Not sure if it was still a dream or what, but it felt mighty real to me.
I'll guess ... Kupo.

oohhh...that's pretty freaky. When I was living in one of the dorms at UW-River Falls, we were pretty sure it was haunted as well. One day I was in my room (I had my own dorm room) and two of my friends were in theirs...two doors down. I was on the computer when I heard the musical jack-in-a-box noise, and it sounded like the old toy, not anything new. What was weird about it is that it came from all around me, not just one certain corner of the room or even the hallway. I ran out into the hallway and so did Jessica and Lara at the same time. They had heard it in their room as well, same experience. We continued to hear it as the year went on...but what was weird is that no one else in the dorm ever heard that noise, just the three of us.

All these stories remind me of a scene in The Sweetest Thing. When the girls crash the wedding and they're making up a story to tell the guy (why can't I remember any names except Courtney?) they come up with "Can you believe it? We went to college with the bride. Oh my god! Oooh, Freaky!" BTW, if you've seen the movie, the way they say "freaky" is what's sticking in my head. And maybe I'm not making any sense right now. I just realized I'm kind of rambling. I think it's because my head feels all fuzzy because I'm getting sick. I feel awful and shouldn't even be at work right now. I feel like passing out.

Seriously, though, that is so freaky. Our house is really old, like a century, and I'm convinced that it's haunted. Maybe not a malevolent ghost, but still, I'm pretty sure there are some things living here. Not for any reason in particular, but sometimes I just get the feeling. *shivers* All these ghost stories are freaking me out, especially at night. At least my mom is sitting near me. :D

I hate migraines! It hurts so much you want to cry, but crying would make it even worse. You know what else is bad? Waking up at 3 in the morning to find out your dog peed in your bed. So you have to get up, strip the sheets off your bed, change your shirt (because of course your dog got the sleeve of your shirt when he was urinating), and go sleep on the rock-hard mattress in the guest bedroom because you're too tired to put new sheets on your own bed.

I do all that as well, I always have an icepack on hand in the freezer. And water is pretty much all I drink. I used to get a migraine every other week, and I'd get headaches at least 3 times a day, then I went to a chiropractor. Shana, hows goes it?

Glad to hear your having fun there Babe! I envy you.
How goes it with me? Let me run you all through my past couple of days...Wednesday, I was sicker than I thought, I won't get paid holiday pay for Thursday/Friday because I didn't make it through the entire day, ended up calling my boyfriend to come pick me up at one because I couldn't breathe very well and was throwing up at work....lovely... Anyway, went home, continued getting sicker and sicker, ended up going to the ER at 5pm, even though they were busy I was statused as a level 2, meaning I got to go right back...because I couldn't breathe. I was put on oxygen right away and got to do three nebulizers back to back (it's medicine you breathe in to help your lungs calm down basically) After 2 hours of doing that, my oxygen level still was dangerously low and a chest x-ray showed phnemonia...so I got admitted to the hospital overnight. Thursday afternoon around 1 the doctor decided that I could go home, but all I'm allowed to do is stay in bed...so no thanksgiving for me...it really sucks. I didn't sleep at all at the hospital of course, my arms are all bruised up from the IV's/blood tests, and I'm still coughing like crazy. I got home yesterday at 3, slept till 9, woke up for 2 hours, and then slept again till 11 this morning...but I'm feeling a lot better now! And you can bet your butt that I'm going to fight this whole not getting my holiday pay thing...obviously I didn't leave work early on Wed. to go on vacation!
Arg...SBW? Please tell me your thanksgiving was better than mine!

OMG, Shana, that's horrible. :( I really hope you're feeling better. Stay in bed and take all your medicine without fail.
Somehow or other I brought a cold back from NY and my throat hurts but I'll just drink tons of tea while at work today. And I'll keep my distance from everyone else.
New York is a fascinating place. We went to a show (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and afterwards went to a diner, sat at the window watching people walking by, and had cheesecake and wine. The cheesecake in New York is to die for. It was all so romantic. :D
Babe? Still in South Africa?

Shana, I just read your post! I was so busy writing my story thread this weekend in between all the festivities I didn't have much time for the other threads.
Your situation really sucks. Sounds like pneumonia or a really wicked virus. I hope you're feeling better today. Take it very easy and don't stress about the holiday pay. When you're completely better you can fight that battle.
Yes, my Thanksgiving was much nicer than yours, I'm happy to say. I got two dinners for the price of one and didn't even have to cook. Unless you count the side-dish I brought to my brother's house.
He's a great cook. But I don't want to rub it in. I'd say, once you're better you and your boyfriend should go to a really nice restaurant for dinner, to make up for your lost holiday. La Belle Vie is supposed to rock. It's across the street from the Guthrie now. (OK, across the highway ... six lanes is not precisely a street, now, is it.)
Let's see ... Kupo?

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes! I feel a lot better now...and yes, I'm at work today. Good news is that they are going to pay me for my holiday! Yay! They kind of make exceptions if you can prove that you really were sick. I am still coughing, and tired, but much much better...in other words I can breathe again.
That does sound like a nice idea SBW...I do have an awesome boyfriend though. He felt so bad over the situation (he's the one who got me sick in the first place!) he went out and bought me an early Christmas present...I got my own digital camera now! Very nice, he can be a big sweetheart. I'm excited about it and so far there are about 50 pictures on it...of our cats! lol...anyway, feeling better, thanks again everyone for all your support!
Kupo...what's happened to you?
Lynet
11-28-2005, 01:14 PM
No. It's me. We haven't heard from Kupo since the beginning of November. I hope it's school work that's keeping all these kids busy and that they'll come back and see us. Simsyth always made me laugh out loud.

Shana: So sorry you were sick, honey. But glad you're better today.
Had a very eventful trip to Ohio, WV, and KY to visit all the family. Yesterday's trip back was horrible. There was a terrible wreck on the WV Turnpike that had us sitting in traffic for quite awhile. With the rain and all the traffic, the 8 hour trip turned out to be over 10. :( The last 3 hours of the trip, my baby kept himself entertained by yelling, "Mama! Mama!" over and over.
Okay, I'll pick Josh to be next. ;)

Shana, La Belle Vie is French food, gets written up in Gourmet as one of the top ten restaurants in America on a regular basis. It used to be in Stillwater, but now they're where the 510 Club used to be, near Loring Park, across from the Guthrie.
I'm dying to go. It's not cheap, though. Even a price fixed meal is $$$$.

LOL I remember once dragging my bad tempered ex (who badly needed a whizz) into restaurant in Boulogne during a short trip to France; we were killing time waiting for the ferry home and eating is the best way to kill time en France.
He doesn't read French so he had little idea of what we were in for. We left the place filled an happy three hours later and he still puzzling over a credit card slip that recorded he had been charged 1,200 francs (£120). This was 94' so it came as something of a shock to a man who thought four pound all you can eat plate at the local carvery was a little steep. I can't imagine why he dumped me ... :o

Hi, folks. Just being lazy over a cup of coffee before heading out to work. It's a slow time of year for the store, believe it or not. Christmas is not our busy season. We sell awards and trophies which is more a spring and summer thing. In fact, the store closes for a week between Christmas and New Years, which I like very much.
Anyway, it's below freezing outside and I don't look forward to going out there.
