I'm currently feeling under pressure. I am having quite a conversation with a guy I like.
I'll explain.
I've liked this guy *Phil* for a while, say, a year. He desn't know. We flirt A LOT. Only one of my friends that knows him knows I like him - I told her tonight. But a few months ago, he dated one of my best friends, *Chantelle*. It didn't really last. A few days at most. So, a few months pass, my crush grows. Still nobody but me knows. And when I'm away, it's then that the crisis happens. Another best friend, *Julie* realises she likes him, and so unlike me, announces it to the world. *Chantelle* suddenly finds out she likes him again, but *Phil* doesn't know that. And I've carried this secret little crush all this time, too scared to tell him I like him. He has an idea I think, but I'm stll too shy. I deny it. Right now he isn't seeing either. And I'm really serious about him. He's sweet, and makes me smile, and listens, and I now he sounds a bit - well. A little too many girlfriends. But he's very shy. He isn't great looking, but it's like every time he logs on to MSN and I see his name pop up... well. Sounds cheesy but I give a little start. I was gonna put my 'my heart does a little backflip' but I'm too young in myself for love.
And now I'm asking him does he like her, and he won't give me a straight answer.
WHAT DO I DO?!?
On a happier, more cheerful note: Shana?

I always have IM conversations with this dude I think is pretty cool, but I'm not about "going on dates". 7th graders who are "going out" aren't actually even going out, it's just pretty much a title. Anyway, so, yeah, I'm always pretty freaked out that I'm gonna say something embarassing...but he's "going out" with my other friend...sorta. Gosh, I hate how dramatic people make 7th grade. Anyway, so I'm always thinking of something witty to say... I just like people to think I'm cool.
You forgot to guess! I guess SBW!

Lol, or if you really do like this guy, and I can understand where you are coming from, then be upfront with him. Don't go through friends, that just makes things more complicated. I know that's scary, to tell someone you like them, but it works out best. Let him know that you really enjoy spending time with him, that he makes you feel really good about yourself and you'd maybe like to see your friendship go to the next level. If he's a nice as he sounds and he isn't interested he'll be honest back and your friendship will still be strong. If he is interested then yay! Good for you! Hope things work out for you hun.

LOL Had to do a double take when I read that. After 30-odd years I've finally got the hang of Celsius (centigrade) and I thought: "wossup with her? 30+ is tropical ..."
Mind you if everyone in the US turned their thermostats down to 63 the rest of us could probably cancel our worries about the greenhouse effect ;)
Sorry to hear that you're shivering, Meg, but maybe your mom is saving up for Christmas ... either that or she got a frozen turkey on sale and it won't fit into the freezer ... :p

Yaaa! Me, finally. Wondered why my ears had been burning, and it's not from the temperature in this house. Fridays I tend to devote to my "better half." Also, with Christmas approaching so fast, we've got errands to run and housecleaning and boring stuff like that. But at least I get to dream of the sims...and I have to find time to play them before I can complete my story. :)
Anyway, who's on board...Mirelly?

Hi! I spent the day rearranging my bedroom and helping Mum and Lee put my new wardrobe up. By which, I mean I sat playing the Sims (researching my story) watching and criticising and laughing when stuff was loading while they huffed and puffed! I had a great day. My Mum redecorated my room for me while I was away, and I needed a wardobe. Ecstatic that I got one now. My clothes were just thrown on my sofa.

Wow...third times a charm eh? That sounds nice Babe that you got your room all redecorated. That sounds like fun. I haven't been on the computer at all this weekend yet. Saturday Brandon and I went up to my mother's to help her decorate the Christmas tree, then I took him to see the movie RENT (my second time!). Today I went to see Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe with my mother and Brandon's mother. It was an amazing movie...I recommend it.

Been putting up my Christmas Lights tonight. I have three tiny plate-glass windows in my living room, so I bought three tiny strings of icicle lights. I can't get them to hang in a pretty manner. Got any lights up, Lynet?

Oh, my God. I hate school discos. Something has to go wrong.
Julie asked out Phil. And he said yes. I really, really, really didn't expect that. When we were at the disco after she asked him, I asked him if she had asked him yet and he said yeah she had. I asked him what had he told her. He said yes. I was all like - 'What?' and I just felt so disappointed. And sick. And I felt like crying (which is nothing new). But I didn't do anything apart from smiling and exclaiming 'Ohmigod, great!' and walking off and sitting down staring into space. A few of my mates were asking if I was okay, and I just said I felt sick. And when I got out of school all I wanted to do was throw myself onto my bed and cry and cry. But I couldn't 'cos I had drama, and it took me a few hours to get over the shock. I wouldn't shed a tear ova a guy, ever. (I'll probably eat those words in a few years... ;) )
As a great end to the most perfect day in the world, where's 123 to cheer me up?

She's not here yet, but I'm sorry to hear you had a bad day. Don't be afraid to cry either, it's good to get those emotions out. Doesn't hurt one bit to shed some tears over a guy, goodness knows I've done it many times. *gives you a virtual hug* It will be tough I'm sure for a few days, but I hope things look up for you sweetie.

Here I am. Sorry to hear about your boy troubles, Babe. I know how hard it is when you really like someone and they don't feel the same way, but chin up, girl. You're fourteen, you've got a lot to offer, and there are a lot of boys out there.
That said, I know teenage crushes are the hardest thing to overcome. I'm not so old that I don't remember how it was. The only advice I can offer is, have confidence in yourself. Be genuine with everyone and try not to worry about what they think of you. I know that's really hard when you're 14, but believe me, if you like you, so will others.
Also, try to remember that most 14 year old boys are clueless when it comes to romance. Boys grow up slower than girls do. So something that seems earthshattering to you may not even be a blip on Phil's radar.
OK, putting away the soapbox.

Yep, it's me!
That's the best advice I've had all week. I've got more boy trouble now, with *Dustin*. My friends are convinced he likes me since he got so jealous when Phil complimented me one time, and my other friends (different people) won't stop saying he eyed me up yesterday when I took my jacket off. Unfortunatly, I don't like him that way.

Awake, took an hour nap 2 hours ago. Our neighbors are being so nice. Brandon can't cook worth crap, so they have been having us come over for dinner every night this week. It's so helpful, otherwise I'd be eating takeout all week. Plus since they live down the hall it forces me to walk a little bit, which is what they were encouraging me to do at the hospital as well. Just kind of feel silly walking down there in a robe and slippers! Lol, must be quite a site. Oh well, at least I'm up!

'Ello, sweetheart. Imagine that in a cockney accent, which I can't do. I can barely scrape a mancunian accent - and I'm a born and bred salfordian.
Mirelly?
person123
01-06-2006, 03:22 PM
What exactly is a cockney accent? There are different types of British accents? Sorry if I offend, just being a stupid foreigner here. I guess there are different accents from different states here in the US, but...I don't think I have a "New Jersey" accent. I don't think there's a difference between a Chinese or Japanese or Korean accent, either.
Edit: Whoops, forgot to guess. Kristal?
babewithbrains_14
01-06-2006, 04:05 PM
Cockney accents are generally Londoners. Sousers, or Liverpudlians, are from Liverpool. You get the Scottish accent, Welsh, and Irish. You get accents in Birmingham (hehe Mirelly!) and I am very tired so I really can't remeber any other places lol. I can't even remember what I had for dinner today. Normally can't remember past 5 days ago. Anyway, accents. If you ever met me face to face you would notice that I speak very loosely. No t's, h's, etc. 'Didn't' is pronounced 'Dint', 'wasn't' is pronounced 'want', 'our' is pronounced 'are'. It's just chav speak, basically. Most of my friends speak that way. I'm not full chav, but since I live in Salford, it's rubbed off on me. Gone are the days when I was called posh at school. I'm just another chavvy teen now. Sigh. Ah well.
Elocution lessons, 'ere ah come, cuz ah can't speak propa, innit. Want speakin like dis when ah was li'ul, was ah? Anyways, ahm gonna go now, so innabit are kid!
Translation: Elocution lessons, here I come, because I can't speak properly, can I [isn't it]. I wasn't speaking like this when I was little, was I? Anyway, I'm going to go now, so see you later, mate [family member].
'Innit' is just like a filler, or a reinforcement for what you are saying without actually meaning anything. 'Our kid' is similar to a term or endearment. Usually it refers to a family member, but a lot of people use it when talking about friends as well. Teens generally don't use that expression, it's quite old now.
Phew. Mirelly, are you there our kid?
Innabit peepz.

Lynet
01-06-2006, 08:23 PM
I am here. :)
Funny, but my husband and I were talking about accents just last night. He teases me about the way I pronounce 'fog.' I don't think anyone anywhere pronounces it quite the way I do. Don't know why. Since he insists it should rhyme with 'dog' I now describe misty days and nights as 'really doggy.' :p
I tease him about 'on.' He manages to give the word more than one syllable. Don't ask me how.
Thought I should mention that Balmorese (not sure of the spelling) is notorious in these parts. For example, you don't rinse the dish, you 'rench' it. Druid Hill Park is Droodle Park. Believe me, it gets a lot worse.
But is Duzzy around tonight?
surprised_by_witches
01-06-2006, 10:59 PM
No, me again, cuz I just had to ask: how do you pronounce fog?
I can't imagine it any other way except rhyming with dog.
Please enlighten me so I can sleep better. :D
I'm guessing Lynet again because I know she'll answer my question ... eventually.
Mirelly
01-07-2006, 03:16 AM
Nah, it's me!!! :D 123 asked about a Cockney accent ...the easiest way to hear what one doesn't sound like is to watch **** Van Dyke mangle the noble speech of olde easte London in Mary Poppins. More aurfen'ic cockernee can be 'eard in the flick of the Lionel Bart masterpiece Oliver. Me dad was almost a cockney 'imslef but as 'e wuz born souf of the rivva it don't count. But he did fall orf Tower Bridge when 'e were a nipper.
Although I've lived within 20 miles of Birmingham for 35 years the local still deem my accent to be a London one. The clue is in how we say the word: bus. Brummies (Birmingham folks) say "buzz" with the u sound being more like the short oo sound in book, whereas I say "bas" :o
Here endeth today's lesson
Babe?
Lynet

I'm guessing Lynet again because I know she'll answer my question ... eventually.Let me see now. When the doctor tells you to open your mouth and say 'aaah' I think that's about how I sound: fahg :p
When you hold an unhappy baby and sooth him with aaawww, I guess that's the sound that most people think of when they say: dawg ;)
Never paid much attention to phonetics in the dictionary and I'm too lazy at 8 am to get off my duff and look it up. I'm just talking to myself right now. :D
Kristal? Are you here?
Kristalrose
01-07-2006, 05:13 AM
Another example of a cockney accent: The actor who played Fredrick Fleet in "Titanic": You know, the lookout that sighted the iceburg, "Iceburg Right Ahead!"
I can't do any accents except my own hillbilly/southern drawl. :( I have a friend here who has me say the name of a neighboring town, "Rocky Mount" because she thinks I say it funny. I say it as two seperate words and put an emphasis on the "Mount". The native Carolinians say it as one word and put an emphasis somewhere on the middle of "Rocky".
I just think I say it correctly, and they do not. :p
Ummmm, Mirelly?

I've done my best to avoid obtaining the Minnesota accent but I'm afraid it's crept in. I think I have what Babe would call "Posh" Minnesotan, that is, Minnesotan but with proper diction.
Fahg, hmmm ... sounds like you should be living in Maine, is all, Lynet.
I just ordered my new video card!!!! Yeah!!! My computer genius friend found me the right one to order and will help me when I can't figure out which slot it goes in. What would I do without him?
I also ordered Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD, the entire series in one lovely box set. I can't wait until it arrives. Y'all may have to do without me for a week or two. :D
Let's see ... 123?
Mirelly
01-07-2006, 11:43 AM
Actually I grew up in an East Midland market town with acurious meld of north south east and west to its local accent. For example a village named Bozeat was pronounced Bo'jh't (accenting the slushy j sound) and another place, Cogenhoe, was Cooknah ... we had fun with strangers  'n oi la-arfed! :D BTW the church of my childhood was All Hallows (Awe-Lalloes as we used to say  )
To my mind the beauty of English is that its speakers can understand each other no matter how far apart they live ... they just have to speak slowly :p must be why english speakers go through the ludicrous process of speaking english slowly to Frenchmen the better the help them understand ... well it works on a geordie ;)
Oh yeah ... erm ... Babe help me out here!

Yes yes it's me I'm here!
Today I got up at 8:45 AM and I started freaking out because my Chinese school starts at 9, and I was running around, throwing on clothes and somehow brushing my teeth at the same time. I stuffed a bagel in my mouth and ran outside to my dad's waiting car where my brother was already seated. By then it was already 9:10, and we were going at like 70 mph, and then when we got to the school, there weren't any cars in the parking lot and the lights in the school were all turned off. I was soooo mad. But then when we got home, and I was already in full awake mode and I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep, I played TS2. I'm actually still playing right now, and the game's just minimized.

Yay! Here I am.
I have today off, well, sort of. My new job asked me to come in and fill out all my pre-employment paperwork and do a drug screening. I have never had a drug screening before, came out of it with sour feeling. I asked them about my prescription drugs (Hubby was worried about my ADD meds, since they are a controlled substance). There was no place on the forms to list prescriptions. So, I asked the nurse, and she said, "I cannot discuss that with you." Umm, okay. Then, had to empty my pockets, go "potty", and was not allowed to flush the toilet nor wash my hands until she sealed the testing vials. EWWWW. She made me come out of the bathroom and stand beside her at the counter while she did all this, keeping up a chatty conversation, while I kept thinking, "I really need to wash my hands!" LMAO. Never realized I was obsessive about that before!
Okay, now that I have grossed y'all out for the day, who's online, let me take a guess. . . ummm, Shana? You working?

I was walking on air on Monday - 4 txt's from *Phil*! And I didn't txt him first. Apart from later on when I needed to know if we had Geog homework.
I've had a few days neglecting WorldSims. Very sorry, but I decided to revamp my website, and Now it's starting to look fabby. Only half done, but eh. www.xox-emmaw-xox.piczo.com (http://www.xox-emmaw-xox.piczo.com) . Check it out.
Anyway, my 'ow' on the counting thread. I had to have a needle today. :( Big thing for me (it was only for polio) but when I had my TB shot kids were taking bets on whether I'd collapse. Nice. And now my arm is aching.
I'm going to bed. Don't guess me for 18 hours if you want to get it right!

Been better if I'd slept last night but I was awake half the night trying to keep cool ... wossup with the weather? Apparently the overnight minimum was 12!!! (53 in old degrees ) which is far too warm for a night but especially so when the heating is on and there's a 13.5 TOG duvet on the bed ... if I'd taken a raw chicken to bed it would've been overcooked well before dawn :p

Entertainment for the evening: Download a bunch of dance/pop type tunes from Napster that little children recognize from their animated movies. (Example, Funkytown by Lipps Inc. was in Shrek 2, or Car Wash from Shark Tale, etc.) Turn the speakers on the computer up high. Watch toddler and kindergarten diva dance, sing, and perform said songs. :D
Anyone else have any ideas for good tunes to download for the kiddies that I can actually tollerate? Allie?

She mentioned a party and I thought - wait. A party 2 days after my birthday? Could it be for me? But alas and alack, she says 'So you can invite a mate.' I thought '1 mate? At my own birthday? That's it?' Luckily I wasn't having a blonde day and so I didn't say all this out loud. And then she elaborates. It's cool, I guess lol but nothing's really going to change. Happy Birthday Shana!! What day was it? Saturday was my baby-sisters, and she turned 26. Today is my little girl's birthday. She's 6. (A moment of sadness for her mother, please, who can't believe that it's been six years!! It seems like last week!)
Happy memory and then I'll stop hyjacking the thread. ;) Hubby and I were entertained by our new baby daughter for the evening by watching kick her booties off her feet. She did not, and still does not, like to wear shoes and socks. And that evening she would put her little feet together and work and work to pull them off!! We were so amazed at how smart she seemed, and how determined she was to go barefoot! LOL Six years hasn't changed any of that. When she gets something into her little blond head, then that's the end of that. And, it's usually something that we do not want her to do. I'll post a pic of her, from a couple of years ago, can't find the newer stuff.
Okay, SBW, you around here?
