Hey, how about PetShop?

So, I was just thinking today. What if, instead of just providing random pets for us to adopt, what if Maxis provided PetShop, where you could make your own? I don't know if this is already in the works, I'm just dreaming, but wouldn't it be cool if ...

Instead of limiting us to just dog, cat, rabbit, whatever, there were a variety of heads, including fantastic ones, that you could manipulate much like you can in BodyShop?

You could pick scaly, furry, feathery, robotic, bald, custom ... for ANY pet? And color them any way you like as well?

You could choose any tail you like?

You could choose means of locomotion: hop, slither, walk, fly, hover?

You could choose horns, number of legs, type of ears, wings, forked tongues, antennae, or custom appendages?

Imagine this: You could have a pink polka dotted winged cat with a rooster tail, that hopped. You could have a flying retro-print robotic dog with six legs.

You could make dragons, snakes, flying fuzzy hovery things, whatever you wanted.

Just had this fun brainstorm and thought I'd share. I mean, why be boring? This would also provide a much larger range of "normal" pets if that's what floats your boat.

Anyway, just having fun imagining the possibilities.

LOL, that would be umm...creative. But I'm thinking that since that's pretty much what Spore will be, they won't do something like that for Sims2. I'm sure it will be the standard animals. I do hope they do something other than just cats and dogs however. For example, how cool would it be to have a pet monkey! LOL.

I was looking for something on MTS2 and found a pet pink bat. Someone had taken the vampire bat from NL and turned it into an animated pet. I did not download the thing although I was curious to see how it worked, since they claimed it was animated.

If it had been some color other than pink...:rolleyes:

See? This is feature would be great! I'm not suggesting something as complex as Spore. The pets wouldn't evolve, or anything. Though I'd like to see the offspring of the robotic retro dog and the winged rooster cat, LOL.

And they'd all pretty much have the same personality, as far as I can figure.

For example, how about a giant tropical fish that swims through air?

I'm hoping that that's why it's taken Maxis so long to put out a Pet Ep (that and pet life stages.) It would silence some of those people who say "this is just like Unleashed." Shoot, just having life stages for pets would be a vast improvement on Unleashed.

I'm really looking forward to having Simcats. As others have said about themselves, my cats are really important in my life and I'd like my Simmies to be able to experience them too! (It would be nice to avoid the strays. Hopefully Maxis learned from Unleashed how frustrated people get with strays in their yard or keeping their carpool or school bus from being able to take off.)

This idea for a pet expansion is actually pretty good; I'd like it. It would be nice to have the option of creating your own pets instead of being stuck with a cat or dog (the others don't really count since they're not as interactive).

If they gave us the option I'd really like to get geckos, a dragon :p and a boa.. to which I'd name the snake Basil (;)).

I think they'll probably include some genetics for the pets (I'm hoping at least!), and maybe different breeds, but from what I've heard and seen of the Pets EP so far, it seems like they're not going to take it to any extremes. I've only seen cats and dogs, but I think I'd be really disappointed if they didn't even include some of the same basic genetic and aging stuff they have for the sims. I'm still excited for the EP, regardless, but in speculation, I think they probably won't take it any more extreme than they have with the sims themselves, that's where I would put the limit. But, I know there will definitely be creative people who are good at custom content who will be coming up with crazy stuff once this EP comes out.

Hey, they have Sir-Bricks-A-Lot, a pet rock might not be that much of a long shot. There should be customization for pet rocks. Glitter and sequins and googly eyes and so on. That could make some sims' lives even more sad and pathetic.

I wonder if you'll be able to plead with Death for your pets, like with the sims. Or if you could try and resurrect them. Then you'd be able to get zombie pets. Not as entertaining as vampire pets, but still interesting, nonetheless. Also, I hope they include enough new pets items to be able to make pet shops with OFB. I don' t know, there are too many possibilities with this one. I hope they put the extra effort in and make the pets more realistic and more like sims than in unleashed. But that might be too ambitious. Oh well. Fingers crossed I guess.

You know, I lurked for about 3 months before posting, and after creating an account, because I was afraid since you all knew each other I would be intruding! There is a definite group of regulars here, and now that I'm one of them I think I was just being silly, but I bet there are tons of others like me.

Spore won't be released until the first quarter of 2007, so unfortunately we still have a while to wait until the glory is experienced.

My biggest hope for Pets is that there will be about the same amount of options for appearance and personality for the pets as there are for the sims, but that might be too much to hope for.

P.S. My boyfriend and I have been talking nonstop about how excited we are for Spore, and how when it is released, we'll never leave our appartment!

I so agree about pet making options. If there isn't a CAPIE (Create A Pet) and if pets aren't even added to Body Shop then half the potential will be missing.
