Screenshots Collection

Here we can collect all screenshot posts about Simcity 4 we have so far in varuious places. Here is also a place to just post screenshot's you found or created over cities and landscapes.

Even those you use to visualize something special is very welcomed here. Just write in the post where you got it or if you took it yourself and if there is anything special you want to say about it.

And for all posts I think I speek for all here when I say

Thanks SO much for all nice screenshots.

Post your own screens here. (Post #1 )

Some unlucky citizens of the Worldsims Forums have not been able to get their hands on SC4 yet, so for those of us with the game lets show them what it really looks like. Thats right! you're being given the chance to show off your urban masterpieces for all to see. Heres a few of my own:

:bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny:

Well. That's so far. These quotes are taken from threads dealing with only screenshots. To separate who's who I've put the names in color.

Next thing I will do is to get the rest as well. Hope this can be something to look around in for many of you. All those other posts will be done similar to this one.

And I just realized that it's not possible to copy all posts with screenshots just like that. Attachment doesn't work then for example. So I will settle for only screenshots with an url for now.

And of course I have to edit this yet one more time. :p

Heads up Sassas, here I come!
Want to keep costs down and have a city treasury that doesnt go straight into the red the first year you play the game? Ok then, pay attention. Dont build anything. I say let the sims rot in the dark, cold, waterless, criminal-infested fire-hazzards they call homes. Dont ever build public service buildings that would collectively give you a dip in your coffers. Only build them when you can afford them. Or you could just leave those miserable virtual-beings in their virtual-heckholes. You've tortured , maimed :hurt: and brutally murdered :dead: your sims before in The Sims (dont pretend like you havent :devious: ) so why not do it in SC4? Let the fun begin!

FaeLuna

I may have to try that... I always have trouble with my budget and they hate me anyway! :p

Well, I dont normally use shorthands like a n00b, but since OinkOinkUsedToBeABunny didnt quite fit in the name field... :p

Oh right, almost forgot. I think I've followed my own advice rather admirably. Everything is all fine and dandy in my cities and the treasurer couldnt be any joyeous. But even the best paradise has its faults, and in mine it would have to be traffic congestions. It seems that I am not as good at zoning and laying down roads as I am at managing city finances. Almost every city that I've started that isnt on a small map exhibits some sort of traffic problems. Be it congestions, long commute, sims being too far away from work or pollution caused by too much traffic. They all start to rear their ugly heads when my city starts to hit the ten thousands mark. I loathe apartments and other low-wealth high-volume residential buildings...

I'll show you guys what I'm rambling about once I've gathered good enough pics to upload in one go. ;)

I think I'll get a picture of my city that was doing good but went down the tubes so fast I didn't notice until it was too late. Stupid city people, they kept on complaining about not having schools or libraries for some reason. I tried to appeal to their hearts with stadiums but they just turned a blind eye to my generous nature and started complaining like the insignificant worms that they were.
I showed them, I showed them all! Only after I unleashed my wrath in meteor form did they show how much they loved my beautiful stadiums. Fools. Fear my wrath puny mortals. Bwhahahaha!

Insanity? Pfft, that's how you always talk. And yeah, bring education and knowledge to your sims by building expensive stadiums... and throwing meteors down on them. What a way to show them you care.

Well i thought it was time to revive this almost dead thread with some random shots. So here they are!...

This is about my most successful downtown ever.

A random suburb at night:

This was one of my first BAT (Building Architect Tool) creations that i actually finished. It's a replica of the Auckland Skytower - the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere.

And finally, one of my latest BAT creations - a snazy modern library:

Hey nice stuff guys! I just trolled by cos I finally went looking for an answer to a question that has been slowly driving me nuts.

On the Crime Data view there is a list of crimes ranked in order of seriousness ... the first crime on the list is TP'ing ... and not being American this has been driving me nuts trying to work out what it could be. Anyway a Google to rescue. For any non-Americans it is ... I can't believe I'm typing this ... ... (drum roll) Toilet Papering (eg of a house or garden as a prank) Apparently once the dew gets on it and it gets damp it is practically impossible to remove ... LOL

I hope this teen phenomenon is one that doesn't get exported from dear old USA :D

Edit to add this PS ... oh yeah ... :p anyone got a screenshot of a TP'ed house? I'm going off now to see if I can find one ...

I am put to shame, Flameback. Once I knew what I was looking for it didn't take me long to find that animation and it sure gave me a chuckle or two (lately I have been missing out in that dept!)

Anyway as it was an animation I was stuck as I am not very good at capturing video ... I do have Bulents Screen Recorder but either it isn't very good or else I still have a lot to learn about using it ... :)

I really like your city, Sam! It has a beautiful layout. What type of building style do you guys normally use? I tend to start with New York, they´re nice to look at, then when I reach about 70 k and the demand for res. is booming, I change into Houston. I noticed on the waterfront, Sam, that you´ve placed some parks. How many excactly is needed to make the neighborhood attractive to high income residents?

I'm gonna play SimCity 4 Deluxe Edtion right now.... After I install it.

If you're wondering why I uninstalled it is because I wanted room, but that's kinda stupid since TS2 takes up 3 gigs and I have over 40 out of 80 gigs left.:p

Hey, rbhriuthbu! Welcome to Worldsims!

That's a mighty impressive downtown you got there. Something about it has quite a realistic feel to it. I like the denseness of the low rise buildings amongst the taller ones too.

What's the traffic situation like in that area? Is there much mass transit around? I'd love to see some more pics of that city if you have any :D

rbhriuthbu1234

Traffic is horrible in that city, Over half the city is in the red for traffic.

sam_lawrence
11-28-2004, 04:13 AM
Heh yeah that seems to happen to me too. Not even subways and or busses seem to fix it - although they do help. It's probably the higher wealth sims that would rather drive.

rbhriuthbu1234
11-28-2004, 11:45 AM
You know what I hate about subways the most? It is when your city has gotten big and when you put the subway stations in you can't see where to put them because of all the skyscrapers, I do have alot of busses running through the city though.I think they should let you see totally underground when putting subway stations in.

sam_lawrence
11-29-2004, 03:26 AM
I agree with you 100% there. I'm suprised someone hasn't made a mod for that problem... well there's none i've seen anyway. When i'm making a downtown area i'll sometimes plan ahead if i can be bothered, and leave a blank square or two on every block for future mass transit expansions. Sometimes i fill the lots in with plazas until that happens so i don't have empty spots everywhere.

Flameback777
11-29-2004, 05:03 AM
Can't you do into data views and chose zones? Then there's no buildings! :D

sam_lawrence

I don't think it's possible to show data views when you're in underground mode. I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that's the case.

Developing a city
Hi.
I know this is not the right forum for this post, but I need help
I had the game for nearly 8 months now, and I have tried sooo many different ways to build a city. I usually build on the large maps, and have onle once succesfullt created a city with more than 300k. My problems is, that some where along the way suddenly people move out. Their jobs are too far away.
I normally build industrial cities around the large maps, so the citizens can commute. It works great for along time, until I reach a certain size.
My question is this: What is - in your opinion - the best way to build the roads(I´m thinking about a Washington inspired theme, with big boulevards early on).
I´ve heard some say, that there are buildings available that fills an entire 5x5 square and even bigger. How do I get to them? And if Sam Lawrence sees this post: On the collection thread you have a cool image of a city with huge scyscarpers. Please help me with reaching above the 280- 300k mark.
P.S. I normally start with low density but rich people moving in. The tax for the rich is 7,4 and for the poor it´s 10,5. So no poor people in my city.

OinkUsed2BABunny
02-19-2006, 06:14 AM
I can't help with your zoning and road-laying problems, seeing as you've mentioned quite a few techniques I've yet to master. I'm still following the tried and true SC3 grid layout. :P

As for your HW to LW res. ratio problem, the solution lies in lowering the taxes for LW. I've noticed that, unless the demand is literally off the charts, anything higher than 9.9 will drive off all newcomers and force existing residents to move out.

And if Sam ever comes back, I'd like to see more screenshots, and maybe enter into a mentorship with him so I can learn how to build my road network like his, and maybe create a metropolis of my own.

Your problem lies in the fact that you mention nowhere that you have attempted to build a mass transit network. You should try one, as they do work. For instance, I have 11 cities greater than 300k because I have built a few of these, and I'll tell you now that I have had greater success building on medium-sized tiles.

OinkUsed2BABunny
02-22-2006, 08:05 PM
Ah, good tip. I remember mass transit to be really helpful in SC3, but whenever I put stops or station down, they usually get less than 1% use from the neighborhood. I think the most use any of my bus stops have ever gotten was around 50%, even when it was surrounded by tenements and apartments.
