Problem Transferring The Sims File

Everytime I've tried reinstalling my Sims game, it's only as soon as it gets to 8% that a message comes up saying that there's a problem transferring the file on to the computer, and therefore, the installation cannot be completed. What's wrong with my game?

Have you tried cleaning the disc? Does the drive work with other CDs? Is the disc scratched?

If the answers are all "yes," it may be corrupted or unreadable--but I can't say so for sure. Before calling EA, let's see if any other members can chime in.
