Installed University and lost my sims

Prior to installing University, I had installed Sims 2, Glamour Life, Nightlife, & Family Fun Stuff in that order. Everything was working fine and my Sim Family was living in Strangetown in one of the default houses. I installed University and it seemed to install correctly. However, when I went to Strangetown to play my family, they were no longer there and their house was for sale. It looked like Strangetown had been reset to its original settings. I used Norton Go Back to reset my computer back to my pre-University settings and my family is back and working fine.

How do I install University and still keep my Sim family, house, etc.?

I searched the forums for an answer and could not find one. Please forgive me, I'm new to the Sims and not very computer savvy either.

save your game to desktop or wherever. install ep. drag saved game into folder and you should be up and running again... always should save game to somewhere else before installing any new ep........
