• EA Shuts Down EA Brazil

I must admit I did not see this one coming. I've even more surprised at how long it's taken for word to reach my ears. The Brazilian Sims Community are legendary among some fan site owners for being some of the most passionate fans. Unfortunately, that passion was not enough as EA shuttered the doors to their Brazilian offices on December 22. All 40+ employees of EA Brazil were laid off.

The official EA Brazil YouTube Channel went offline sometime in the past week. The EA Brazil website has not seen updates since December 2009, and is likely to go offline soon.

What the future lies for Sims fans in Brazil remains to be seen. However with their offices closed in Brazil, it would appear that there may be some distribution challenges that lie ahead.

Good luck to our friends over at EA Brazil.

I'd say that the effects of EA's plunge has affected a lot of players, especially those from Brazil, and it is unfortunate that EA has to close its Brazilian offices. But, I must admit, it's for profit reasons, not for the passion of the players, that caused the shut down. It'll be hard for the Brazilian Sims users to find help (maybe call the US helpline to do it)... I'd say that EA has really made a lot of bad moves in the past few years that caused their current problems.
