LOL, mine got up to look at the rain. Fortunately, it started raining close to rise and shine, anyhow, so they weren't too exhausted. It amazes me that my guys wake up to go work when their ride shows up, even if they haven't gotten a full night's sleep. But once they sit down to eat breakfast, too bad. They finish everything on the plate. If the car pool is still here, OK. If not, it's a day off from work.
Lynet, would they eat instead of going to work if their hunger bar was almost full? That's what I mean by getting insight into the programming. The objects and activities in the game have varying degrees of "magnetism" to the sims, depending on the sims' needs and personalities, and the degree of pleasure and interest in the object. A sim who is all green except for hunger will be strongly pulled to eat. But a sim who is not hungry might be more pulled to go to work. Since we're not controlling them, they only eat when they're "pulled" to food. My sloppy fun-loving sims have to get really stinky to take a shower, because the computer and the piano have stronger magnetism than the tub! So I'm learning how much each object draws them. Obviously, WEATHER is very exciting!
Knowing that it's programming makes it all even more amusing, since real people so often behave the same way. I tell myself they're just animated dolls, LOL, but it's so easy to forget that. It speaks to the genius of Will Wright and the programmers. Meanwhile, I tend to visit my asylum when I'm too tired to do much else except watch the game as if it were a TV show. Last night I watched Rufis get desperate for both food and social interaction. He's also a fortune sim and spent some time on the sidewalk begging for simoleons. His social need was so bad I expected to see the bunny. Didn't happen. He finally got his good friend Johnny to share a couple of jokes, which revived him enough to remember he needed to eat. There were others at the table, so his social need also went into the green. Meanwhile, Poor Lil cleaned one of the tubs. No one has cleaned a toilet yet. I can sympathize. Newspapers are also piling up. I finally remembered to have someone pay the bills, which were also piling up. And everyone is cooking spaghetti for supper now. Any thoughts I had about their lives settling into some sort of routine were mistaken. If anything, their lives are getting more erratic. Oh, and there was a dog fight (rather, wolf fight) in their yard. The losing dog stayed around long enough to dig holes.
I've been watching my Asylum for what seems like hours. They are all coping. If you wonder what sims will do on their own, the following might be amusing, but, in truth, not much is happening. I thought Rufis (the guy in the picture) would lose his job, but he didn't. Spaghetti is still the supper of choice. For lunch they have started cooking grilled cheese sandwiches. They seem to have lost interest in the band instruments on the deck. Maybe it's because the weather has turned cold. There is a piano in the house which they sometimes play. Mostly, though, it's painting that they want to do now. In fact, it seems to be very difficult to distract them from painting. Johnny insisted on painting even though his hunger and social needs were dropping to a very low point, and even though other members of the household would come into the room and want to chat or tell him a joke. As for skills, they will earn cooking, creativity, and logic easily. Sims with four or more neatness points will earn cleaning skills because they enjoy cleaning. I guess. I'd like to invite one to my house. They will earn body points with that big whirly/spinning thing that you see in Nightlife clubs. I have one in their living room and a couple of them have earned a body skill point with it. But mechanical or charisma skill points? Can't figure out how they'd learn those on their own. I told one guy to repair a tub. He kept stopping. I had to tell him repeatedly to keep at it until it was repaired. I could have left the tub squirting water, but I was curious about how a sim with no points in mechanical would handle it. LOL, Jiko, but my observations are SO clinical and uninteresting. Are you still watching your Asylum family?
I decided to put up a couple of pictures in a new post, if that's OK. Hanging Out. Poor Lil attracts the attention of two of the guys, Johhny and Rufis. She does like to wander around in her undewear. Rufis starts a punching game that gets a little out of hand. I added a uni-style shower to the downstairs bathroom. I never knew that the lack of privacy was not an issue, even when using the toilet.
I started one also. I have 3 adults and 4 toddlers. I'm wanting to know if they teach them how to walk, etc. since they become childs in 2 days LOL. So far only one guy has gotten promoted in the same day and he's almost a full aspiration meter and the woman missed a day of work and the other guy is doing ok. Can't wait to see what happens to those kids LOL.
I can't believe they will take care of the kids properly! That will be interesting and especially, if personality makes a difference. Two of my sims have started sharing a bed even though they are only "friends" and one rebuffs the other's flirtations. Forevah seems happy to go to work every day, the others not so much. I was wondering if they would wear coats during the winter (yes) and enjoy the snow (no - not a single snowball fight or spontaneous outdoor excursion). Piano, dancing to the radio, email, darts and rock-paper-scissors are the big draws. They are earning very little money so I am starting to sell bits of interior decorating. The only thing I have to make them do is order groceries and pay bills. But they are very unaccomplished people! (And often smelly)
Within the first sim week, the parents haven't done swat for the kids so they got taken away. Right after there birthdays to LOL. All my sims but one have lost their jobs and the one who didn't got promoted the first day LOL.
In my regular households I've had sims spontaneously take care of all baby and toddler needs, but not the needs of older kids (other than social.) And I don't think older kids would do homework without being told to do it. So I would have guessed the social worker would come for them. Now that I've added that uni-shower to the first floor bathroom, my sims shower more regularly. The bathroom is between the kitchen and the other attractions, so they aren't distracted by the stereo before they get to the shower. Financially, they're OK, and that's because no one has lost a job yet and there are six of them employed. That's enough income to get the bills paid for now. Mine regularly share the double beds, even though they're all only friends. It's a little weird to see. And they don't necessarily go back to the same bed each night. I have 2 women and 4 men. I didn't create any family relationships -- they are only roommates, so I'm curious to see if anyone starts flirting. So far, nothing like that. Just friends all around. I wonder how long it will take, since I never did the "check sim out" flirt to establish preferences.
One of the interesting things to me is that we all have mixed households and are not controlling the sims, but they are not behaving the same way, either. I have an easel in my house, and none of them have shown any interest at all. One spontaneously dances to the radio a lot, which I've rarely seen in other households. They are related as siblings, but still share a bed. I guess a lot of it is the personality mix set at 'conception' when we create them. Lynet, how do you make a unisex shower without walls? Don't bother to explain if it involve a hack or download. I just like the look. But I'm surprised it works - rarely will I have a sim willing to share a bathroom for toileting and bathing at once. They really protest this. (So do I)
LOL, I'm sorry. When I refer to it as Uni-shower it's because it's a cheap shower that came with the University EP. It's the only shower sims will use in 'public.' That is, several sims will shower at the same time in the same bathroom, like in high school gym class. What I didn't know was that if there is an exposed toilet, a sim will use it at the same time that one is using the shower. That's what surprised me.
Hi, everyone, this is my first post here - not sure if I'm even doing this right? (Am I supposed to be putting a title on?) I've been lurking for a few days and just READING, so inspired by some of these stories! I HAD to try the asylum myself even though I'm not that experienced with the Sims 2 having never got children past the toddler stage yet - but anyway - I got two asylums set up and ready to go, and I was wondering is there any way to sort of trigger a "spontaneous flirt" or "spontaneous romance" or even "spontaneous woo-hoo" cheat? Just because that's more realistic (I hear that dorm-style living is a hotbed of romance!) and it would sort of add to the fun, I think, if my non-controllables could fall in and out of love themselves in a crazy-person way. It would be even MORE fun if they could run the risk of unplanned pregnancy but that might be asking too much...? Does anyone know? Sorry if I should be introducing myself more - I wasn't sure where to do that or what to say except that I like the Sims. ccc
Hi CocoChan! Welcome and I hope you'll have a nice time here at World Sims. Introductions can be done here (though nobody's forcing you to introduce yourself :silly. Mind you, the Introductions Forum is only a forum where you introduce yourself - not where you ask for help. :classic:
Just set a house up and get the sims a job and enter that boolprop cheat and make them unselectable and watch and enjoy!
Many thanx, Muffin-tacos - may as well, why not? Zetsumei - what's the boolprop cheat? Sorry, you gotta draw me a picture sometimes - how do I use the boolprop and make them unselectable? And does that mean they already do all the spontaneous flirt/romance/woo-hoo stuff? Already got the houses set up and everything (finished them last night, one "country club" madhouse and one plain vanilla madhouse, "The Bughouse" and "La Maison des Bugges"). Just have to actually START them going now...can't wait! Can only play sims when I'm at home for a short time a day, alas. ccc
I think someone here--Chee-Z?--uses a spontaneous flirtation cheat because it's fun to watch people get slapped. Not so sure about spontaneous woohoo. You might want to check MATY. (More Awesome Than You.)
Watching people get slapped is great. Kind of a naughty thrill like watching someone else get in trouble back in high school if they weren't your friend. I'm trying to get my game as wide-ranging and autonomous as I can, really give my Crazies a fighting chance to run their own lives and make a go of it. I haven't played them yet but I love my Crazies already and it will be sad to see them go so I don't want to stack the cards against them. (That's why I bagged the inadequate seating and beds rule - I mean, WHY? Give them at least enough to start with for God's sake.) Mine get eight (8) beds and eight (8) seats. No more and no less. My favourite Crazy so far is Splash Fezziwig, in the country club asylum, who is the only knowledge sim and walks around in a diving suit with goggles because he heard that truth is at the bottom of a well. So I basically want to give them the chance to fall in love or at least GET some if they are capable of it! Just because they crazy don't mean they have to be banned from some hunny if they deserve it by making friends all by themselves. Thanx for the tip, I'll go hunting there and post back what I find. Not that I've ever used a hack before but how hard can it be. Cheeze? Do you have a clue on this cheat and if so can you share? ccc
I found in my three bare-bones asylums that some of them did flirt and hold hands and kiss - no woo-hoo, though. It seemed to be a pure matter of "chemistry" at work. Some were friends, some disliked each other, others got romantic. As for the lack of beds and chairs, these were in the original rules and I liked the way it reflected real-world discomfort for the disadvantaged among us. A little like an inner-city emergency room. It's enough to drive anyone crazy. I had a chess game and people actually stood in line waiting for a chance to play chess and sit down! Others sat on the floor and read books. The real frustration is when someone sleeps on the couch and took up three seats that way!
LOL Jiko. You tempted me into having an asylum, now I feel as though I have been in one myself. I am a complete addict of The Sims -- been hooked since the original came out -- but dang it, the game is utterly unplayable with free will turned on. Even the simplest of interactions becomes a herculean challenge to try and get sim A to stand still long enough (without deciding to fart, belch, primp, go watch TV, play on the computer, start busking, or make himself lobster thermidor) for sim B to be able to fulfull a small important want, such as "appreciate" someone.
Yep! Autonomous Casual Romance. Triggers random flirts, kisses and the occasional woohoo. MATY is the place I got it from, under Two Jeffs, but you need to read the readme before you plop it into the downloads in order to understand how it works. Quite complex. I have so many families now, it's like playing the Asylum Challenge with every session. Gotta love having 4 adults, 2 dogs and several screaming toddlers.
