I need advice playing my game.

This probably sounds ridiculous. Who would need ADVICE on playing a game like Sims? Sadly, me. :( Here's why.

I've been in and out of Sims 2 numerous times now...like ever since Sims 2 released, not sure how long ago that was. It's like, EVERYTIME I feel like playing Sims again, I wipe my data and create a family consisting of one man. I put him to work (on a career that suits his lifelong ambition or whatever)...let him romance with the neighbourhood women...hit the top of the career...get married with one of them and have 1 or 2 babies. Then I stop at this point of the game. And when I come back, I rinse and repeat everything.

The really dumb thing is I even have all the expansion packs, bought them 1 by 1 as they came out - and I don't know how to spice my game up. (but i did try the each EP content by playing a separate family in the past)

I don't know what else to say.

Aw, Ruzz. That's a familiar sort of tale, surprising as it may seem.

It sounds to me like you need a challenge. There are as many challenges out there as there players ... well it seems that way sometimes. However they are based on the original Legacy Challenge, so that's a good place to start. If that seems to easy (or too long-winded) you can customise a challenge to suit yourself. for example try a 19th century twist (no electronics, phones or cars).

Your post shows that your are comfortable with writing and your style is readable and bright and intelligent. Why not try writing about your sims? Look at our library for inspiration. Playing with Sims says as much about our latent creativity as it does about our need for time off to relax away from the strains of work-a-day life. If you're getting your sims to the top of a career so easily, then I would guess that, for you, the challenge of the unaltered game is no longer enough to keep you occupied. Take up writing! :D

I'm in the process of compiling ideas for a sticky thread with suggestions for making the game more interesting and challenging, so then hopefully we can all continue to add to it with our ideas. For now though, I would suggest doing what I normally do with a new nhood - I make around 8 to 12 single sims in their own starter homes and marry them off with each other. I have a mixture of genetics too (hair/eye colours etc), and I use different styles/themes of clothing. Each family then has a different career or business. Send the teens off to college (if you have the patience to work through the long uni phase), and/or get them married with kids/pets.

One way to make things more interesting is to fully explore the features of each EP in turn. For example, I've never really used Pets to its potential, nor made each type of business in OFB. You could make each family do something different - one a restaurant owner, one a baker, one a venue (nightclub or spa or whatever). Maybe play one family purely for screenshots for a story/family blog. Maybe focus on landscaping and experiment with different terrain heights. Try decorating each home in a particular style - that's a challenge in itself, to give each home a different feel (probably against your comfort zone too).

Do you have the Prima guides for each EP?

Do you have custom downloads in your game? New downloads always fire me up for playing Sims 2.

Hope this helps for now, but there have been other threads here that might give you ideas too. Try this for starters:

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

You could also try the challenges over at The Sims Resource. There's quite a few there to try!

I'm a little confused right here. This challenge thing...so you set restrictions to yourself while playing a family? Seems a little...not right:confused: Is this a player-created kinda thing or is it game implemented? I could never do a story. I have no patience and interest for that kinda thing. Haha, that's me.

How do I be a baker or restaurant owner? I never really bothered to check out those OFB options either, although I saw a bunch of em whenever I clicked on the phone. The only thing I ever tried was starting a home business...so I figured you buy stuff off the the catalog to resell at a profit? Or make those toys/flowers/robots on the machines?

Anyway like I said, I have no interest in landscaping and family blog and all that. Just wanna enjoy the gameplay.

What are prima guides? No I don't use downloads. I'm afraid of ****ing up my game :X

    Thanks for the responses people.

i don't download much either, too hard seeing clothing you like but then finding out the mesh isn't included so you have to find the mesh etc :)

ohhhh and prime guides are basically books that tell you everything about the game, like a manual, except more in-depth.

i got the box set (without colour arrrrggggghhh i want colour!!!) and they are so useful,

however if you don't want to spoil your game don't use them, they can give away some stuff.

but other than that they are life savers!

Ummm, the game needs to be more challenging?
I been strugglng with trying to achieve this and that. Probably the result of me drifting in and out of the game through the years and not fully "completing" all the objects an expansion pack has to offer.
