It's not coming to my state :( Our sales tax is pretty high too. We're right around 10% Of course we don't have State income tax so that helps. I guess if I have to make a large purchase I can drive down to Oregon.
I wouldn't complain too much. Parts of LA County here are paying 10.75% sales tax. http://www.boe.ca.gov/cgi-bin/rates.cgi?LETTER=L&LIST=COUNTY
It was 8.25% a few months ago...we only had it just jacked up to 9.25% and then another set of hikes came into effect July 1.
Too Bad CA Does Not Have a Tax-Free Week Yeah, I really like to see CA have a tax-free week that may hopefully increase consumption in the already-crippling economy. But, it may not be feasible because the state is in a budget hole right now... In the San Francisco Bay Area, Alameda County (including Berkeley and Oakland) pays the most in taxes in the Bay Area at 9.75%, while Solano County paying the least at 8.375%. San Francisco has placed its tax rate at 9.5%, the second highest in the entire region, and it will be imposed for the next 2 years to rescue the state's ailing budget. I think putting up a Tax-Free Week for CA could have taken place when the economy is better; the economic situation nowadays, however, limits or disbands that idea. I just hope Governor Terminator will find ways to terminate or at least heal the over $26 billion deficit. There's one article that says "a possible suggestion to make CA pull out of the hellhole is to make Sacramento look like... San Francisco?" I hope that CA will get a Tax-Free Week... FOR REAL.
